Hi
If some reports are to be believed an EGR valve is the worse thing ever designed from an engine health point of view. I have a Seat Altea 19TDi with 100k on the clock still running very smoothly. Is it worth cleaning the EGR and all the related plumbing, what will it roughly cost and do or can dealers do it? Is it easy to do yourself? And basically the same question about the turbo, is it worth cleaning it now? Will this sort of maintenance on these key components help your engine reach an above average life (or it's expected min. life of 200k)? Or will the cleaning of these components not make a noticable difference or is the expense way to much to make it worth the effort?... Read more
Hi John

Alright, get an op-com off ebay. They cost 20 or 30 quid but take a month to arrive, and you may have software issues if you're not good at computers. Get one off a good seller.
Had mine for a while now and it's paid for itself ,any times....
Hey guys,
Very frequently on my 1.6CR TDI Seat Leon, when starting from cold. My engine is taking around 6-7 miles to warm up, and I am also feeling slightly low power and lower mpg when this happens.... Read more
I would assume that your 1,6CR has a DPF fitted & think that will be at the heart of your poor MPG during engine warm-up....
I am new around here and looking for advice - I am looking to buy a Vectra C CDTI (06-07 most likely) and looking to pay around the £4k mark. My annual mileage is ~10k p.a.
At my budget there are a number of high mileage ones (~100k) which are all ex lease and have pretty good service histories with evidence (not just stamps as so many cars have). I haven't bought high annual mileage cars before but done a bit of research and am not too concerned on this.... Read more
I wonder if he is still debating which car to buy 16 months on from the original post.
I came across a company called Synergy Manchester, http://synergymanchester.co.uk who are offering a brand new vehicle on long term hire which I am told is like renting from big companies like Avis etc. They say it is a refundable deposit of £ 3k, monthly rental of £ 500 which includes VAT, insurance.

I have an error code og P2584 or simular which when I checked tells me that the DPF need regeneration. I am tempted to do this myself as ford charge a whopping £210 for this. I can get the JLN fluid for £40 of ebay. However the more I read the less sure I am, I have also readd a refilling frocedure which involved opening and closing the fuel filler cap 3 times in 30 seconds which seems a bit far fetched to be honest.
Has anyone actually carried out this procedure with any success, the car is past its warranty so paying Ford to do anything goes against the grain completely.... Read more
Secondly, very few after market diagnostic equipt are able to re-set the dpf system correctly.Resetting the system by opening and closing the fuel flap is total rubbish.I would take it to a main dealer for a competetive price or find a diagnostic guy who has the proper Ford IDS diag system.hth
I read a couple of years ago that the EU commission were looking into anti-competitive practice by European and other car manufacturers, meaning that they were looking at legislating against the excessive use of 'main-dealer only special tools required' scenarios on so many modern cars. ...
I have a 2008 jaguar xf, purchased from an independant dealer 6 months ago , it recently lost power after starting in the morning, it then refused to start. Having towed it to a jaguar dealer I have been informed I require a new engine. It has been driven 43,000 miles. Has anyone any advice whether I should go ahead or be looking for compensation? or get a second opinion.
thank you, dasp Read more
6000 mile changes are simply precautionary

The clutch and flywheel went on my wife's Golf 1.6TDI 60 Reg at 39k miles - the deaer put this down to driver error and now want £1300 to fix it. VW Customer service backed the dealer and would do no goodwill gesture.... Read more
A clutch i can understand could be down to driver mis-use, but a flywheel? Very shoddy response by VAG, we read this time and time again don't we?

My Mazda 6 with 10k mainly local miles from new, has developed a steering fault chiefly at low speed where the steering wheel falls dramatically to the right, sometimes to the left, when affected by camber or the slightest uneven surface - occurs less often on the motorway under the same road conditions, pulling right. Main dealer has had the car 3 times, the latest for several weeks and claims to have replaced the steering rack, checked tyres and had it digitally tracked 6 times, but the car continues to drive the same. They say they can find no technical problem with the vehicle and it drives like any other Mazda 6. Frustrated enough to consider getting rid, despite the loss. Is there any likely cause that they could have missed? Read more
replaced them with Pirelli P7 and it now drives sweet as a nut.
How do you find the Pirelli P7s for road noise?
Thanks for the advice and ideas guys. tony g do you know what the fuel injector cleaner is and what it does (in more detail than the obvious if pos)? Would this be std practice at the dealers as well?
