Hi there, we have a 56 reg ford focus 1.8tdci sport and have problems in the past where the fusebox got water in and in turn made the instrument cluster go costing us a fortune to get fixed! .................recently the car seems to be using more diesel than normal and has some power lag when you try to accelerate at times. Today my husband went to drive it and it started no problem, drove no problem but when he looked at the dials on the dashboard the temperature dial was at the highest point and the fuel gauge was higher than if you had a full tank of fuel! can anyone give us any advice on what could be going wrong and what checks we can do on the car in order to try to find a solution before we end up with another huge bill? many thanks in advance Read more

Hi There,

My husband says we dont have a sport or comfort mode for the steering , ive just looked at the link and this poor car isnt looking very good is it :(...

I got an engine management light recently and the car seems to be lacking power sometimes and mis-fires under acceleration, usually when the engine is hot. It is sometimes hard to start the engine aswell when it is hot. Starts fine when cold.

These are the error codes I am getting (I cleared them, ran the car for a few days, and the exact codes came back two days later);... Read more

It seems to be the most likely problem. Those compression numbers are too low. I'd be looking for least 12 bar on a healthy modern n/a petrol engine.

Hello timbo23, you might also try using a high grade fuel such as Shell V Power or BP Ultimate and run that for a week or so. Then afterwards always use a decent quality fuel such as Shell or BP 'normal' diesel. Of the 200 litres or so of Shell diesel I use per month I put in 45 litres of Shell V Power. I believe it keeps things clean and helps smooth running. I also get 50mpg+ from my Skoda Superb. My daughter had a Golf a while ago that started to feel 'lumpy'. She had a 50 mile daily commute so it was getting used properly. Turns out she was buying supermarket fuel at the cheapest place in the area. I filled it with Shell V Power, she ran it all week and it came back to life. She then continued with normal Shell diesel for years with no repeat of the problem. Good luck. Concrete

Hi,

Bought from a main Honda dealer 7 weeks ago an used Jazz 1.2 i-VTEC SE[VSA], manual transmission and about two and half years old. Shortly afte I got it, I noticed that when I change from 1st to 2nd gear, during the process of pressing the clutch down, the car judders and there is a clonk noise. This is before I shift the gear itself. It seems the car has some difficulties in disengage the clutch. It only happens in the first gear, not in other gears. I took it to the dealer. A technican had a short road test and put it on ram and then told me that there was a fault with the gearbox bearing. They would need to remove the gearbox, and find out which bearing is wrong and replace it. Though the repair will be under warrenty, it still makes me very uneasy. I have the following questions:... Not having driven it I can't be sure but this sounds more like a clutch problem to me.

I'm looking to purchase car form BCA Blackbushe, but I don’t have BCA card.

Do I must have cards or I can just go there and bid and take it home?... Read more

You dont have to have a card to buy. When you say take it away, bear in mind it will very likely have no tax or MOT and perhaps have tyres that are on the legal limit etc, so it will likely need to be transported. Add to that the cost of a service, MOT, buyers fees, etc etc it soon mounts up.

I visited Blackbushe several times last summer with a budget of around £7k wanting a diesel estate with reasonable miles and age. I reckoned I'd need to spend up to £700 in fees, service, MOT, transportation, tax, etc, on top of the uncertainty of buying at auction so I figured I was better off buying from a small cheap 2nd hand garage. Add to that the fact you are going to lose at least day's work (you may not even come away with a purchase), for me the final hammer price on a 3 year old diesel estate with 40 - 50k would need to be around 6 grand! Dream on.......

Hi, Hope someone can help me understand my car. I have an 04 nissan micra and recently had lots of problems with it. Most recently my car was cutting out as i was driving it. I've had a sensor on the cam shaft replaced which didn't solve the problem. Meanwhile i started to just not start first time, like it doesn't have enough power. I then got a fuse replaced on my battery. The car has now stopped just cutting out, it now just doesn't start first time like it has not enough power. I now have to have my foot on the accelorator when i start so it gets going. When i had the fuse changed on my battery they told me that the battery wasn't at it's best. It was fuly charged but the life of it was nearly gone. I though that the problem could have actualy just been this all along so i've had a new battery but there isn't any change.

I feel a bit fobbed off by the garage and i don't want to take it back again for them to do something that doesn't fix the problem.... Read more

Thanks to both of you. I've read up on the micra faults. I've complained to Micra over the phone but all i got was rudeness. I will get round to writing a letter of complaint!

Hello each, some more technical guidance required. My daughter recently got a Skoda Superb Estate as company car. It has built in Bluetooth. I have paired my Nokia E5 and her personal i Phone successfully but cannot get her company Blackberry to pair up. I have heard that Blackberry's are different, but I am stumped. Has anyone on the forum completed this feat?

Incidentally my Parrott Bluetooth in my Superb has half a doxen mobiles paired to it including a Blackberry so it must be achievable. Thanks. Concrete Read more

Hello everyone - can anyone please recommend which car would be best for my poor old German Shepherds to get in and out of (they're both 11 & can't jump up very well now). The following features would be essential:

A couple of years ago a friend was looking for a car that her elderly border collie could get into. She ended up with a Ford Fusion, short with a low load sill. Its not very exciting but she has been pleased with it. It is a diesel giving c.60 mpg.

Hi,

After having my car battery changed, I needed to key in the code for the 6000CD radio. However, my audio guide has 2 serial numbers and codes ('original' and 'new') - neither of which work. Having looked at the S/N on the radio, it's totally different to the ones I was given. So, my question is, could anyone give me the correct code for the radio which has a S/N: M183593?... Read more

My Passat is currently at VW Drift Bridge Epsom for a routine cam belt replacement - it's 4 years old and has done 61k miles

The garage has informed me that the turbo is leaking and that it needs replacing - cost £1400 and needless to say I didn't extend the warranty when it expired last April. I have seen no evidence of this as acceleration and MPG have not deteriorated.... Read more

Hope you got your car sorted, I have to say I used to use this main dealer but I have found a specialist in Sutton called Volks Autos were all three mechanics used to work at the VW driftbridge and I would not go anywhere else. I had my gearbox ECU condemned by the main dealer but Volks Autos sent it off for repair, instead of trying to sell me a new ECU and I literally paid have what I had been quoted. I think there is some other reviews on this specialist on here, have to say can’t recommend them enough. They will give you an honest opinion rather than trying to up sell you work you don’t need or can wait 6 months for....
