My Mazda 6 with 10k mainly local miles from new, has developed a steering fault chiefly at low speed where the steering wheel falls dramatically to the right, sometimes to the left, when affected by camber or the slightest uneven surface - occurs less often on the motorway under the same road conditions, pulling right. Main dealer has had the car 3 times, the latest for several weeks and claims to have replaced the steering rack, checked tyres and had it digitally tracked 6 times, but the car continues to drive the same. They say they can find no technical problem with the vehicle and it drives like any other Mazda 6. Frustrated enough to consider getting rid, despite the loss. Is there any likely cause that they could have missed? Read more

replaced them with Pirelli P7 and it now drives sweet as a nut.

How do you find the Pirelli P7s for road noise?

Hello eveyone.

I use a certain mini roundabout many times a day. It has four exits like a compass when viewed from above. ... Read more

Roundabouts work where there is flow from each entry.

You wait until there is no-one to your right on the roundabout, what I expect to happen is someone comes from your left and breaks the flow.

Roundabouts don't work well where flows are unbalanced.

recently purchased the above car but can not connect to bluetooth, system keeps saying maximum devices stored even though no phones are paired, have been informed to get system reset - any ideas on how to do this Read more

Try deleting all stored devices in the bluetooth menu. I could not pair my phone in my 6 either until I tried deleting all paired phones then retrying a pairing to my phone. Instant success! Go to "setup">"pairing options">"delete phone" and chose "delete all". This might not work but worth a try anyway. Have you thought of taking it back to the seller and asking him to sort it,or as a last resort take it to a Mazda agent. Having checked my Mazda manual I can see no reference to resetting the bluetooth radio(despite having a comprehensive section on bluetooth), so apologies for not being more helpful.

I live in South Africa and drive a 2001-2004 Citroen C5 2 Litre and I replaced my Cam Belts at 75,000 kms. This recommended here because of the Sand Roads and Dust out here. It only cost 200 Br Pds at the Peugeot/Citroen Agents and was well worth it

Hello,

Sorry to bother you, I sent John this question yesterday not realising that this was the place to send questions which are related to technical matters, really sorry about that.... Read more

IIRC this transmission used a special fluid, not conventional ATF;very low technology electronics so little will be learnt from codes-CFI,I think and it sounds more like an engine problem than transmission.

I bought this car in june last year. I have 1 yrs warranty on it. The car shakes when idle. My mechanic has had it in on numerous occassions to try and get to the route of the problem but still the problem exists . What I have started to realise is that when the weather is cold the car runs 90% ok I only sence the mildest flutter, but as the warmers weather comes in the car starts to shake when idle, the warmer it is outside the worse the car is. Strange! What can this be. My son thinks its a sticky cylinder. He has also said he thinks the compression might be poor he is not a mechanic though so I won't let him touch the car!?! I don't know what to do. The mechanic is fed up I think. He changed a thing called the Lambdh scencor but that hasn't improved things. Any sugestions would be greatly recieved. Read more

To my mind this outweighs the risk of aquaplaning in terms of potential to cause an actual accident, given that slowing suddenly might be a requirement more often than aquaplaning is an actual problem. I take the point that loss of grip at the rear might be a problem when taking evasive action however....

I've just collected a new VW Up, and I was wondering if the engine needs breaking in. From what I can find on the interweb, it looks like general normal driving is fine. Read more

Similar tales from the motorcycling world of the 70s: newbies would be told by their mates that the red zone on the revcounter indicated the recommended running-in rpm :-/

A freelance motorcycle journalist once told me that he was on a factory visit to Yamaha in Japan and saw how the bikes randomly chosen for quality testing were treated: fired up, 30 seconds tickover to warm up then caned at 5-6,000 rpm through the gears before being prepared for shipping.

My 2003 Octavia TDI has in the past year or so developed an intermittent lack of boost.
Having looked around the web it seems that here is a common fault with the VGT turbo where the vanes become clogged.
Here seems to be a few places on the web hat claim to be able to fix this by cleaning the turbo. Some by taking it of and others in situ.
Is this a realistic fix? And if so can anyone recommend a firm (ideally near ish to the south coast)

Thanks Read more

thinking of buying ford focus TDci sport, 2006 reg, does this have a timing belt or a chain belt. Read more

thunderbird

All Focus Diesels have a timing belt, no such thing as a "chain belt".

From memory they need changing every 10 years or 100,000 miles.
