I have had this Emissions control light coming on and off for the last year, when i had my car serviced last September they said they would reset the switch, and see what happens. I may need a new one which would cost about £250 if it came on again, is this correct. it only came on last Mon then didnt come on for 3 days, now it is permantly on again. Do you think it could just be a loose wire. When the light is on, the engine does smell is it to do with this?

Bought a new Suzuki Swift 2 months ago - great little car and I love it BUT just found out today my gf is pregnant!!!!!!! In 7 months we are going to have all the usual baby paraphinalia to squash into a car which is spacially challenged and I know I am probably going to have to get something more practical so have to be prepared for a financial hit in the not too distant future.

Just wondered what was the shortest time any of you guys kept a car before you swapped it - would make me feel better if I knew there were others out there who have made a quick swap too!... Read more

Son's next door neighbour had a brand new Audi all-road for 2 weeks - local yoof came round a blind bend on the wrong side and wrote it off. 7 months waiting and a new one arrived 2 weeks ago.

2 months after the accident the yoof was convicted of speeding / dangerous driving, banned 18 mths, fined + community service and re-sit his test....

I took my car into the dealer for a service whilst it was still under waranty. A couple of weeks later there was some wet weather and I switched on the rear screen heater... which didn't, as such, actually work! I checked the fuse box.. The rear screen heater fuse was blown. Strange, that. I've never, ever, had one blow before! You've not had your car in for a dealer service recently, have you?

The ignition key on my wife's car fails to start the vehicle, although it opens/closes the door wirelessly. She took it to the BMW dealer and they said that they couldn't find anything wrong with it but a replacement would cost £70+ and proof of ownership documentation provided. I checked on various websites and this appears to be a not uncommon problem, with the EWS chip in the key failing to communicate with the ignition enabling circuit in the steering wheel. It seems that the EWS chip needs time to "re-tune." The methods suggested for re-tuning have not worked for my wife's key. Are there any further things to try prior to getting out the credit card?

Not much else you can do with these. They either work or don't work.New key will come factory programmed ,all you need to do is sync the cdl system to the remote.£70 seems a very good price for a key for one of these.Lucky its not a Merc or a Toyota at £200+.hth

i have a w reg ford escort van, i put the key in the ignition turned it to position 2 (all dash lights on) then couldn't get the steering lock off so whilst i was attempting to get it off the key slipped out. So now when i put it back in the key is still in position 2 i cant turn it off or the other way to start the engine and of course cant budge the steering lock. iv tried everything in regards to moving the wheel. just wondered if the problem will be ingnition bolt, steering lock stuck, or maybe worn key. help? Worn ignition lock barrel. Very common problem on Fords of this age. Over two Fiestas I had 5 replaced! The ignition barrel went while we were camping which wasn't too convenient. I used a tent peg to realign the barrel and it worked, but not for long.
They can be rebuilt to match the key and a new key will be worth getting.

I want to look at the latest thread entry as the first rather than paging through pages of entries to the last one. Can I set the most recent as the default entry to view?

Sorry, if I appear to be a bit stupid for asking. Read more

Hi. First time user of this Forum. Have an issue with headlamp dipped beam lamps blowing after a month or so on the C5. I am using standard replacement bulbs and the higher intensity type from Halfords. When one lamp blows I usually change both sides. I normally have the light switch turned to automatic. Had the same issue with lamps on my previous Peugeot 407. Is there a blown bulb indicator on the C5? Read more

I normally have the light switch turned to automatic. Had the same issue with lamps on my previous Peugeot 407.

Presuming this means headlamps are on all the time the car is in use, they might last longer if only turned on when you needed them. Or is that a strange old fashioned idea?...
