I need to replace a front wheel bearing on my Mk2 Focus. Can anyone tell me if this bearing/hub assy needs to be pressed out and new one pressed in? This will determin if it's a DIY job or a garage job.

I have a 2006 Audi A6 Avant 2.7 TDI Quattro and from time to time the electrics start blinking intermittently. The headlights, tail lights, instrument panel, MMI, all start flickering, but to date I have not felt that the car engine or power is affected. It happens on rare occasions and to resolve the situation I pull over, turn off the ignition and remove the key and then re-start. it seems to do the to trick, but its not a good feeling.
If it was the alternator at fault, surely the problem would be a more consistent? Is there a fuse that governs the above? The condition seems to be sensitive to the instrument warning panel indicator, as I have noticed that if the windscreen top up fluid or brake pad warning signal (need replacing soon) appears, it provokes the condition above.
Any ideas?

RESOLVED
I concluded that the main problem was the connection to the battery where the positive pole connection was loose.
I have now driven the car for nearly a month and all is well.
Having taken out the spare wheel housing in the boot well and releasing the battery, I was able to get at the battery and check / tighten all connections in the area.
There are quite a few connections, so it was well worth while checking and giving them all a slight tighten. The main culprit was the the main + connection which could be slightly moved by hand.
I didn't find any water problems, but it was well worth while inspecting the plenum chamber in the engine bay as it did need a clean.
Thanks for everybody's help and contributions.

The Corsa's have great suspension which is never normally a problem, I can only imagine your car has previous collision damage or less likely, badly worn wheel bearings. The wheel bearings do wear out and are quick and easy to replace but it is unlikely you would get bad tyre wear unless they were really badly worn.
i have had a slight leak that is gradually getting worse coming from the front end of my focus, on tick over you can't hear it, its only when the engine is accelerating that you can hear it so i can't locate it. assuming the front pipe needs replacing is it a pretty straightforward job and doable using ramps? If it isn't the flexi section, why don't you repair it? Two jubilee clips, a tin can and some Holts exhaust paste. Job's a good 'un.
Hi all ,I've just read the bizarre comments being posted on the motoring discussion site of HJ ,regarding cyber bullying .
I've been a forum member for 12 months and have never come across what I would consider to be bullying ,am I wrong or does it happen on HJ .My understanding of the forum is that it's informative and amusing even irritating (Jamie). But never imtimidating .
I've always felt that my contributions have been fairly received even when others have strongly disagreed . But I have never seen childish name calling , and the idea of threats seems ludicrous .
HJ is the only site I read and contribute to ,is it a major problem on other sites ?
Going back to previous posts on the motoring discussion site ,I'm not sure the posts are genuine ,I notice that the complainants offer information about their lives that suit the point they are trying to make .But only as a response ,never as an initial point .

I'm equally frustrated by people whose occasional contributions consist entirely of laments about how the forum isn't as good as it used to be be and how they would like to post something intelligent, but it is not worth doing so because of all the unintelligent comments already posted.
I hope that my comment didn't imply that I personally was lamenting for the good old days! I think the forum is, in general, no worse or better than it's always been. It's always interesting, and I enjoy the banter. After all, I don't have to be here, but I am :-)
Seem to be having a clutch problem.....does anyone know whether this model has a twin mass fly wheel (aka dual) or standard clutch? I seem to be having different views on it and obviously price wise is completely different............thanks Read more

Moved to Technical.
Just prior to the announcement of the drought order across the country, many TV news teams were shown highlighting the situation by filming river beds that had dried up or were at very low capacity.Since the hose ban, and the never ending deluges we've had since, I'd like them to return to those rivers and compare then and now. Bet they won't.
And what a load of tosh about "wasting" water. Anything I use that goes down my plug hole goes back to the treatment works for them to pipe back to me. This water doesn't just disappear. If it did, I would support the action and be more frugal. It doesn't matter how you use water, it finds its way back to the customer. You drink, you pass, you flush. You wash you drain. You water the garden or wash the car, it drains or evapourates. Eventually ALL that you use comes back in some form. I just wish the government and the water companies wouldn't keep trying to pull the wool over our eyes. In the end it is a "green" tool and a pre curser for compulsory water meters and hence higher prices. It is the water company shareholders that will benefit all round all with the myth that we are saving water. Read more
Do you think it is portrayed badly in the media?
I'd apply that to most of the north and its not just the media. Labour MP Diana Abbot on Question Time last night seemed to suggest living in Stoke was below people.

The Citroen ones that I have done are pressed in but I have always been able the get the outer ring out by running a line of weld metal around the inside, when it cools the ring shrinks and comes out quite easily with the aid of a couple of screwdrivers.
