Just prior to the announcement of the drought order across the country, many TV news teams were shown highlighting the situation by filming river beds that had dried up or were at very low capacity.Since the hose ban, and the never ending deluges we've had since, I'd like them to return to those rivers and compare then and now. Bet they won't.
And what a load of tosh about "wasting" water. Anything I use that goes down my plug hole goes back to the treatment works for them to pipe back to me. This water doesn't just disappear. If it did, I would support the action and be more frugal. It doesn't matter how you use water, it finds its way back to the customer. You drink, you pass, you flush. You wash you drain. You water the garden or wash the car, it drains or evapourates. Eventually ALL that you use comes back in some form. I just wish the government and the water companies wouldn't keep trying to pull the wool over our eyes. In the end it is a "green" tool and a pre curser for compulsory water meters and hence higher prices. It is the water company shareholders that will benefit all round all with the myth that we are saving water. Read more
Do you think it is portrayed badly in the media?
I'd apply that to most of the north and its not just the media. Labour MP Diana Abbot on Question Time last night seemed to suggest living in Stoke was below people.
After coming across Honest John's article on 'bullying on motor forums' today I was really concerned how quickly other members & HJ's administrator bullied the thread starter off your site. As far as I could see this person was highlighting a very serious issue which was quickly rubbished and discredited. 2 months ago my daughter attempted suicide because of forum bullying so the response here really angered me. You only have to Google 'bullying on motoring forums' and it brings you straight to HJ's very poor show against scum bags and low lives who make increasing numbers of people young and old a living hell. Perhaps HJ's should have a good look at its self here because the entire internet is very concerned about this subject and you are currently coming across as just another motoring forum bully? I can guess however that this post will also be rubbished & probably removed - shame on you! Read more

I have recently had a Cambelt and timing kit change on my car. Driving home from the garage a ESP Fault appeared on dash and stayed there continously. When turning ignition off & on fault clears, but after driving for a few min re appears continous. Also on ignition get a red brake warning light although goes off after engine starts. Could a recent cambelt change cause any of these faults. Read more
Thanks... Railroad Great Help. Checked with garage on method used. They did use the locking pins. Any other suggestions to causes would be a great help.
Hi, Just wanted to let people know about a new forum i have set up to to help customers find independent and unbiased reviews on tyres from customers, and to give as much information on tyres as possible. From customer tyres reviews and tyre tests, after all most people over the life of any car will have fitted at least 2 or more different tyre brands on their car, van or 4x4.
The Tyre Forum enables each member to place a review of their tyres online for other customers to view. www.tyreforum.com Regards Rory Read more
Its like Autbild and the ADAC( and I am sure threre are similar in the UK )which lists about every tyre you can buy and do an indepth analysis of the product.Majority of people do not have a choice or those that do don't really care,i would think that price is the deciding factor in most cases were the buyer has a choice.
Right guys, I got my new car last week and love it to bits, especially how clean and shiny it was when I picked it up.
Unfortunately being black, one trip up the motorway on a rainy day and it was filthy.... Read more
>>i'm paranoid that their sponges mush be full of little stones scratching my car
Your sponge paranoia serves you well especially with a new black car! Wash it yourself with a cotton or lambswool mitt or choose a hand car wash where they power wash off most of the dirt first and then use mitts and regularly rinse them. In the early spring and late autumn polish it for the shine and then wax or glaze seal it, more layers = more protection. I use Jeffs Werkstatt polish and glaze, not particularly cheap but go a long way making them relatively cost effective. A carnuba wax would bring out the shine and give decent protection on new black paint.
Just replaced turbo on Mk5 Golf TDi which seems to have completely changed the power delivery. I was used to a boost (+ boy racer hiss) between 1500-2000 rpm but now also seem to get a secondary boost around 2500-3000 rpm. Whilst this is great (although I rarely use it), I am getting about 10mpg less under careful driving. Used to get up to 70 mpg (according to the notoriously unreliable digital trip), but now struggling to get 60 mpg on the same A road 50 mile commute. Any ideas? Do I need to book it in for diagnostic tests? If so, what am I looking for? Thanks! Read more

Six months ago I purchased a Jaguar xf 08, with 41,000 miles and a full service history. As I started the car to drive to work I experienced a loss of power, I pulled over and called the AA. The car was towed to a jaguar dealership. I have been informed that the car has suffered a mechanical failure and needs a new engine. They are unsure of the fault but it would be very time consuming ( read expensive) to find out and the money should be spent on a new engine. The car is out of warranty. Jaguar so far are unwilling to help. Any advice? Read more
