Jaguar XF 08 premium luxury - Mechanical failure - dasp

Six months ago I purchased a Jaguar xf 08, with 41,000 miles and a full service history. As I started the car to drive to work I experienced a loss of power, I pulled over and called the AA. The car was towed to a jaguar dealership. I have been informed that the car has suffered a mechanical failure and needs a new engine. They are unsure of the fault but it would be very time consuming ( read expensive) to find out and the money should be spent on a new engine. The car is out of warranty. Jaguar so far are unwilling to help. Any advice?
