How much should I expect to pay to replace a steering rack gaiter on a 99 VW Caddy (assume same as a polo) for parts and labour. Read more
Depends how long its been left like this, could be full of dirt so might need removing stripping cleaning to determine wear.
I wouldn't just be clipping another gaiter on if was brought to me without inspecting it thoroughly.

No.
My neighbours' drive is not long enough for thier two cars, so that while the cars' wheels are on their drive, the rear of the car obstructs the shared drive. This means that when I back out of my garage, I frequently have to steer sharply to the left to avoid clipping one of them. Does anyone know whether there are any byelaws relating to this and whether they can be asked to park only one of their cars on their drive? Read more
This happened to my brother. Check the deeds & covenants for the properties, it's normally covered, but IMO going to law is the last thing that you should try....
Hi - I've put deposit down on a new picanto. The car has arrived at the dealership. The dealer says I need to come in and pay the balance, and sign a couple of forms (not entirely clear what these are) and then a couple of days later I can drive the car away. I.e not on the day I have paid the balance. He seemed to suggest this is perfectly normal nowadays, but on my only previous new car purchase,I drove away on the day I paid the balance. Is the delear correct. Not entirely happy with paying the full amount and not driving it away. What happens if it is damaged between the day I paid and the day I pick it up, which due to,work commitments will be about a week? Have their been any changes to how a V5C is completed? E.g dealers won't do this until the balance has been paid?
Thanks for any comments. Read more
Yes - fully aware of the mild facelift. Petrol versions in showrooms 7th May, diesels from June. The Kappa 2 engine provides 7bhp more.
£1250 off car plus £1000 contribution to finance deposit from Hyundai. From Honest John's review and from the i20 forum on the Hyundai Owners Club, transmission problems appear to be few with the i20. Plus in the May edition of Which? the i20 was given the Which? To remove rear L. H. light cluster raise boot lid , remove two set screws/bolts. Dont try to use your fingers or metal tools but push strong string around the gap between body and light cluster and simply pull hard to release plastic base from plastic locating stud on LH side of cluster which is located half way up from botton of lamp. It worked for me. The Haynes Workshop Manual is pathetic in detailed information. Read more
I bought a car from salavage and did it up. There is no record that its ever had a problem - unrecorded. Can I still use the warranty on it? I think if it goes on the ramp it is possible that they will notice its had an accident - it works fine just need to get the ECU reprogrammed and it's got a problem with error codes coming up - was wondering if its possible to use the warranty - it's less than a year old. I doubt that you will get away with it, they aren't daft!
Please can anyone let me have their opinion of which one of these would be the better buy. I need a car with decent boot space but must have low lip / floor level with lip. Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated. Comments about reliability also welcome. Thank you. Read more
Thanks for your answer. I was intending to buy one about a year old. I am definitely edging towards the SEAT, still can't lose the niggling worry about French car reliability which is why I discounted the Clio estate. Renault seem to have an even less reliable reputation than Peugot.
Hi have just read your item on Wed 5 Aug 2009 05:09 UKPC parking Services Fine - Honestjohn
I was sent a charge notice for parking at a McDonalds in Skegness it was my wife driving , I sent this reply by iPad have I done wrong and ware do I go from here?
To uk parking control ltd
I am writing to concerning charge notice I received on the 25th April 2012.
I visited the McDonald's restaurant in Skegness with my two children and disabled mother, the weather was appalling with very heavy rain and gales, we rushed from the car into the restaurant with speed hence we did not notice the signs that advised the two hour parking rule. We were in the restaurant eating and chatting with the staff at no time did any of them advise us about the parking timeframe.
With this in mind I was hoping you could waiver the charge, it is not my intention to duck out of this charge however considering the circumstances on this occasion I feel the situation deserves some leniency. We were only six minutes over the time allowance and the car park was very quiet due to the poor weather so we weren't stopping anyone else from using the car park and were using the facilities there.
Kind regards
I put my wife name here
Please help
Kind regards

Retiring from Honest John's Back Room, Avant? Looking forward to it? Can't say I blame you. There must be times when you do not love that job....
