Honest John mentions in his Peugeot 508 road test.
Peugeot only expects to sell 8,500 508s in the UK in a full year, split 50/50 saloon/SW and 80/20 diesel/petrol, though, once the public starts to catch on to the disadvantages of EU5 diesels, I expect a significant move back to petrol.... Read more
Hey everyone, most of you who will reply are familiar with my on-going case with Mazda and the engine run-away issue that i had.
To help keep this short, i had an inspection carried out & this inspection being a joint one between myself, insurance & the selling dealer - this inspection came out in my favour. Ok, my solicitor wrote a letter to the selling dealer with this report, they responded with cheek may i add with the main point aiming to be this:... Read more
Mazda diesel problems well known for 3 years plus..
hi, can anybody help me please, i have a 2000 reg xantia 2.0hdi (aircon). Over the last couple of days the red light in the temp gauge keeps flashing along with the red "STOP" light. After about a minute the flashing stops. the cooling fans also seem to be on constantly when engine running, even with the weather being quite cool The car is not overheating,i have recently changed the coolant and all levels are correct. After trawling the net on this subject i understand its more than likely a bad connection between the brown sensor in the themostat housing & the bitron controll unit (controlls the cooling fans & warning lamps)? please help if possible ... i'm baffled

In my day (1985-2006) we didn't have "Kylie flaps",(maybe a very recent idea) but we had lots of other strange but aptly named parts. The nicknames for parts always came from ourselves(mechanics) on the cars and proved quite useful, especially when certain teams( red cars!) used to listen in on our radio transmissions. One of my favourites despite being a pig to fit, were the "pizzas"- which was a large circular disc of tungsten ballast the size of a family pizza which varied in thickness. each one weighed between 40-60kg, fitted underneath the fuel tank and we changed to adjust the balance of the car.
Righto. I've just been stopped by the police at a checkpoint at about 1am. not once did they look at my car tax which is 2months out. I had no licence on my person either. So the policeman asked me my name and address, date of birth and took down the reg number of my car and took a quick check in the boot, (standard enough practice in Northern Ireland). He then thanked me and I carried on on my merry way. My question is, will it show up if he inputs the data or the fact that he didnt look at the disc mean ive had a lucky one this time. Also, if im gonna get nabbed is it a standard fine or will it be a day in court. Read more

Log book loans are loans that are secured by surrendering your vehicle registration certificate. As long as your automobile is totally exempt from finance or at least almost no cost, you get your loan usually within 24 hrs without any credit verifying at all. Read more
Having some engine problems (come to them later) and just had my MAF off for a quick check. Inside there is a prong like thing with a black blob of something on the end, and also two pairs of prongs, one pair has a razor thing wire between them - the other however does not. Should both pairs have a wire between them? If so, what problems could this cause?
I ask this because when the engine is under any kind of load whatsoever (3rd, 4th or 5th gear), the engine just cuts out at fractionally over 3000rpm. It will restart once the ignition has been switched off for a few secs. This causes the engine management light to come on for 24 hours until the problem happens again.... Read more
I think one is a hot wire to determine air flow and the other a temperature sensor. I haven't looked at a MAF closely for a while but it sounds right.
You can normally eliminate the MAF as the cause of a running problem by unplugging it. The ECU will then apply some default (look-up) values for fueling and the engine should run OK, albeit without fantastic performance. If it runs better with the MAF unplugged then you may have a defective MAF....
