What is the difference between a Mondeo estate and hatchback towbar. The hatchback one's seem easier and cheaper to get hold of. Can it just be modified to fit?... Read more

I see areport out condeming HID headlamps, 90% of those asked claimed to of been dazzled by them!
I'm not so sure its the HID lamps, i think its more a case of those that are not correctly aligned and those that are incorrectly fitted to cars as conversions kits, but worse still are those that will fit the illegal 110w bulbs. having been an MOT tester its so easy to spot those cars driving around clearly with illegal bulbs and included are motorcycles where some are running around on full beam or badly adjusted Read more

1. It's illegal to sell or use aftermarket HID lighting kits, for converting conventional Halogen headlamps to HID Xenon.

2. Under the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is an offence to supply, fit or use vehicle parts which are not legal. Hence, selling or using high wattage bulbs is illegal.

3. Yes, some HID Xenon headlamps are far too bright and dazzle overcoming drivers.

Vegetable oil and crude oil are both commodities but sold on different markets yet the price of cooking oil uncannily shadows the price of crude oil, now roughly £1.30 litre. Is this a coincidence or is the the price of cooking oil being artificially raised too deter motorists from buying cooking oil at the supermarkets?

I used to be able to buy cooking oil at about 30p -40p cheaper than diesel to add but not any longer. Read more

If the car has leather, make sure it gets aired now and again or indeed as suggested some form of drying agent....if not you'll find mould can grow quite quickly on the seats.

Went to a main dealer last week and ordered a brand new car for 1st March.

There was a model in the showroon of the car I was after, in the colour I was after. Salesman went into back office and came out five minutes later saying he had found one in the system and I was lucky as it was the last one in that particular colour. All well and good, forms signed, deposit paid, handshake and off I went.... Read more

pulled up at some lights earlier today while waiting i heard something sounding like a tennis ball hitting my drivers door skin (although were i was waiting was deserted) followed a couple of seconds later by what i can only describe by a much quieter boing type noise, when i got home i went to fold my mirror in,the mirror head is now loose/wobbly and the usual notch feel it has when moving it to open position from folded has gone, whats weird was the drive home from where i heard the noise was 60-70mph roads and the mirror head did not fold in although it must have been loose, does the mirrors usually fail like this,is there a fix or have i got to get a new mirror £115 plus painting from honda no breakers yards have one, moneys tight as it is for everyone so any repair ideas would be great Read more

mine is 16 years old now & i've got no problems with the mirriors, so i'd guess somethings broken on the mechanism in the case.

This is a follow-up to an astute comment on parking tickets by Dwight Van Driver. Basically the Protection of Freedoms bill is a well-meaning collection of provisions that includes a ban on car clamping, restrictions on the time terrorist suspects can be held by the police, control of fingerprint records - and a whole lot of other things.

However, DVD spotted that the removal of clamping rights is matched by a nasty provision that would make a car's owner vulnerable to extortion by these wretched parking companies that prey on people.... Read more

The thing is: it is absolutely right that you shouldn't just park on other people's property - and they should have means to stop you.
The problem is that it is rather more complicated. There would have been nothing wrong with the use of clamping had it been done fairly and reasonably - if the car park or land owner had charged, say, £10 to take the thing off for a first-time infraction and warned the malefactor he would have to pay appreciably more if he did it again.
What in fact happened was that it became a predatory business, with clampers lying in wait and charging huge sums of money for what were often unintended or harmless "offences" - like parking slightly over the line of a parking bay in an otherwise deserted parking lot at 11.30 at night.
Parking enforcement companies are the same kind of predator - and the new act will make it easier for them to hound people for unreasonable amounts of money.
As it is, the act is flawed. Anybody who thinks that some appeals process operated by private parking companies could be fair is being naive. Parking enforcers are unprincipled - they already have a supposed appeals system but it never lets anybody off.
It is wrong to pass a law that will aid villainy and exploitation.
