Had a bit of a shock the other day - just pulling off the roundabout from the M5 onto the M50 at about 45 mph and the offside driveshaft went bang. Sent me across the outside lane(fortunately only 2 lanes & it was empty) into the crash barrier.
All in all a lucky escape, other than manouvering on the drive at home I can't think of such a thing happening without dire consequences!... Read more

Living in Cornwall it does take time for new models to appear this far west. I have wondered whether Alfa's new Giulietta is a success so far, as I have yet to see one in the flesh. Lots of Mitos but nothing else. Likewise the newer Volvo S60, no sign yet. I did see my first Audi A1 last weekend in my local Waitrose car park, which seemed appropriate somehow.
Whereas in France this week I saw the new Peugeot 508 - nice from the front, ungainly from the rear I thought - and the new Citroen C4, which looked quite nice, which in the sector it belongs doesn't seem enough.... Read more
I've seen a handful of Giuliettas and A1s in East Anglia. So far just seen one S60. The 508, in photos in estate form looks an impressive car. It's a shame new cars have so many expensive bits to go wrong. That's not a sobering thought when they depreciate to my budget.
The electronic fault warning light (also heater plug on light) intermitently comes on with no apparent problem.
The light will stay on from 10 seconds to 60 seconds.... Read more
Hi,
I've recently replaced the head gasket on my 306. Got it all rebuilt & running, but found I had an oil leak. Traced it back to the vacuum pump on the end of the cam. I hadn't replaced the seal on the oil feed from the head.... Read more

Any else experiencing a problem with the automatic light on their ix35?
The lights come on when its so dark that I think it would be unsafe not to have already switched them on! I've had them checked by the dealer but there seems to be no adjustment facility. Read more
Hello,
As some of you may know, the Geneva Motor Show starts next week (Tuesday). We're doing something a bit different with our coverage this year and covering it 'live' for the first time, with new model announcements, pictures and videos as they happen. We also want you to get involved as there'll be the opportunity to ask questions and give your views on what's been shown.... Read more
For anyone who is interested, the live coverage of the Geneva Show is now running. It'll be available to 'replay' later too:

We often receive enquiries from clients who require a short term lease on a comfortable automatic car. This can be because an employee has a temporary ailment that prevents them from driving a manual car or they are awaiting delivery of a new car with an ever-lengthening build time. For this reason ( and because it's inexpensive and hence it doesn't matter if it is rarely used) we have bought an originally U.K. sourced, 2007 57 plate, Kia Magentis 2.7V6 LS Automatic saloon that has covered 25,000 miles and has a full dealer service history.
My lack of knowledge on this marque over the last few years prompts the question: What was the original manufacturer's warranty on this particular car in terms of period/ mileage? I'd be obliged for any knowledgeable response. Read more
Many thanks Falkirk Bairn. I thought that would be the case. And yes, it was cheap and VAT Qualifying too, so after 20% VAT deduction, we can lease it out at a bargain rental and keep our clients happy. After that, running costs are not that important for low mileage use.

Drive shaft failure isn't unheard of ! it is very nasty when it occurs. Sometimes they just snap, often due to corrosion , normally where a rubber damper is mounted and the salt and water gradually causes corrosion, or internal failure of a joint. Normally joints can be heard before a failure with clicking noise when turning in car parks etc. Without knowing what part of the shaft actually failed, its not possible to comment on whether it should of been picked up on an MOT.
