The distributor hall sensor does not switch when connected to the engine. When I slowly hand turn the engine the voltmeter at the correct ignition switch amplifier terminals just shows a flat 10v. The rotor arm moves normally. If I disconnect the distributor from the engine and turn the rotar arm then the hall sensor does switch in the correct fashion, 4 times a revolution.... Read more
I've criticised garages in the past., so to be fair I should record my appreciation of good service.
I have a 59 reg Mondeo 2.0 TDCI which I like very much. I bought it as an ex Ford Direct car, but from a dealer who goes to their auctions but does not sell it as Ford Direct.... Read more
I am now thinking of my next car. I would like to try a diesel now but they all come with a DPF. I know that DPF tends to be very problematic and the repair costs are high. This might not cover the fuel savings made by driving a diesel vehicle. I do not cover that many miles per annum (7k), my driving is mixed (50/50, urban and motorway).
Will driving a diesel be ok for me?... Read more
At 7k miles pa you're using around 200 gallons of petrol vs 170 gallons of diesel if you are getting 35mpg vs 42mpg. This is about £180/yr difference.
Most diesels are a group or two higher for insurance than their bhp-similar petrol versions....

There seems to be confusion over whether or not one has to declare if a car has been damaged requiring paintwork or repair work following accident...I have been told it is only recorded against the car reg number etc, if it is serious ? what is serious other than a write off....which I understand has to be recorded against that vehicle..could you explain position...on lesser damage such as requiring panelwork or new bumper or the like. Cars owned by large companies are often insured 3rd party or TPF&T only
Big bash and car is sold at auction. Can be repaired but this will not appear on the Insurance based write-offs as insurer did not pay out - Company takes the hit.
