Car Tax question. - hillr8
Righto. I've just been stopped by the police at a checkpoint at about 1am. not once did they look at my car tax which is 2months out. I had no licence on my person either. So the policeman asked me my name and address, date of birth and took down the reg number of my car and took a quick check in the boot, (standard enough practice in Northern Ireland). He then thanked me and I carried on on my merry way. My question is, will it show up if he inputs the data or the fact that he didnt look at the disc mean ive had a lucky one this time. Also, if im gonna get nabbed is it a standard fine or will it be a day in court.

Fine, back tax for 2 mths +new RFL.

They could have impounded your car, towed away, storage and then scrapped it if not reclaimed and all charges paid.

I'd nip to the PO ASAP and tax the car, then sleep easy

That is good advice. To PO pronto and take out Licence back dated if they will do it.

Plod have to get DVLA authority to prosecute Excise offences. So where they come across out of date Licences they submit form to DVLA who then process into action.

If this is the case then by the time DVLA (Coleraine) get the form your record will have been updated with a new Licence so NFA.

Another offence was committed of failing to display a current Licence and if he didn't rattle your ears about this then thery were after bigger stuff than Excise offences at the road check.

Going straight to PO today. I got distinct impression he knew not to check. id say they were after bigger stuff alright. Do u reckon if I get the tax on it today i mightnt hear about this again? that would be sweet.

I think your in the clear if he did not draw your attention to the expired Licence
