Hi guys,
I am looking for some advice please.
I bought a 2001 laguna 1.6 with only 32000 miles I have it for a few months and have not had any issues up until now. (38000miles atm)
In the mornings when the temp is 0 or subzero the electroninc fault light comes on and the car revs on its own when I press the accelarator nothing happens.
If I leave the car with the EF light on for a few minutes and restart the car, light goes off all seems normal and drives fine.
It seems that once it warms up its OK and this has only happened when temp is 0 or below zero and there's some ice.
Before I put it on a garage I was looking for some advice as it could be something easy to fix and I was hoping to only service the car before MOT which is not due until may.
It may be worth to mention that at the begining of winter car was coping well with cold starts and cold temps. And the first time this happened was in one of the coldest days in the winter and the toxic light come on also and so did the EF light in the morning with same symptoms, however next day the toxic fume light went out and ever since when is really cold in the morning the EF ligh comes on and engine revs until car is warm.

On days that temp does not go low (below 0) there is no sign of the light. I would be happy if any1 could indicate areas that I could look into it.... Read more

An injector has no brain. The ECU may be over compensating but not the injector. How do you know this and what are the symptoms. Regards Peter

The filler cap often incorporates a relief valve to safely dissipate any excess pressure in the system. A head gasket failure could over pressurise the cooling system.
When the engine is cold and shut down, take the cap off and have a sniff, is it exhaust or fuel smelling?
Could just be a poor or incorrectly fitting cap, overfilled or slightly hotter than normal though.

Hi,

I'm currently looking for a new car with a budget of around £1600, but would push £2k if it makes a big difference. I'd be driving to and from work (about 15 miles A roads, 15 miles M6) and other general business, so ideally something that is fairly cheap to run. Cheap insurance would be useful too.

I know all the usual candidates, but just wondered what peoples thoughts were.

Thanks,

Rassilon. Read more

A lot of it is down to luck at this end of the scale -- the right car at the right time.

Last year I picked up a Mitsubishi Space Star, 03 plate, 100K miles with FSH and all receipts right down to wipers for £1050 from a work colleague. Reliable as the day is long so far. Would I find another like that if I looked for one? Unlikely.

Yeah it wouldn't have been my first choice, but the mere fact that it's (a) undesirable and (b) had a botched attempt at a repair of a small dent on one of the doors only served to batter the price down.

The sad part of it was that I ended up selling our perfectly acceptable old 1997 Daewoo second motor as it was surplus to requirement. £325 was a good amount to get for it, but it only had 64K on the clock, was mechanically fine (saggy bushes on the front being its only fault) and I'm sure it'll still be on the road for a while yet.

I know that condition is more important than marque, but I'd still be inclined to go Korean, or less desirable Japanese at this price. Jap because of the typical buyer of them in the first place, coupled with generally solid mechanicals. and Korean because of the warranty and price -- you can still sometimes get Hyundais just out of warranty for under £2K, and these are usually easy pickings IME because the previous owner has had to keep up the maintenance to retain the warranty. Counts for a lot, especially when it might only have 30K on the clock.

Yeah they're shonky to drive, but then so is a 15 year old Golf with 200K on the clock and bent suspension.

Has anyone any advice as how to remove the glass in the nearside wing mirror on a 2008 Honda Jazz?

According to the Haynes book all you need to do it to push the top of the glass in as far as it will go so the bottom sticks out. Then insert a flat tool, ie. paint scraper or similar, then lever the glass out of its clips. Sounds easy!... Read more

It shouldn't need much force as you should only be unclipping a plastic clip. Have you tried to get some plastic binding tape, the sort that is wrapped around boxes etc and try to pull gently, might be better with 2 lengths to get an even pull, an an assistants hands just in case it comes out !, don't want it hitting the desk
Was it cold when you were trying as plastic is harder when cold, any chance you can heat up the area with a hair dryer for a few minutes first
