Hi, I am planning to drive to Majorca in summer 2009 and would welcome any suggestions as to best routes, stop overs, Ferries etc. My plan is to drive there and stay over on route and return by Ferry from Spain to the UK.
Thanks in advance!

Help. I have changed the heater control valve on my daughters 03 KA Luxury and still have cold air problem.
Also the car now overheats which it was not doing before.
Have I connected up the hoses the wrong way? I am pretty sure this is not the case but would be gratefull if somebody could advise which hose goes where e.g top hose from engine to the right of the heater control, looking from the front of the car. I would buy a Haynes Manual but they don't seem to have one for anything later than 02.
As you can imagine she is less than impressed with her old mans skills! Read more
Thanks mfarrow.
I was going to bypass the valve as suggested to check the overheating just in case it is coincidence.
The valve is brand new from an e-bay source. UK manfactured and seemed to work correctly before I fitted it.
My concern is tha I have fitted the hoses from the engine the wrong way round but I am not sure what effect this would have.
Hi I have just bought a 307HDI 136 (55 reg 52000 mils). The first problem to raise its head was an Engine light & a Depollution system fault warning. The second problem is the Climate control, the car has a digital display while checking things out as you do with a new car I noticed the Air Con only cools down on the passenger side while the drivers side remains hot even when turned to low. Anyone out there got any ideas ?
The car came with 3 months warranty but I have only done 40 miles & the Problemshave already started. HELP I am becoming Paranoid.
Thanks Read more
No garage charges £490/hour for labour SFAIK. Under £100 and by quite a lot, depending on where you are in the country. I wouldn't expect a bill for more than £100. I did see your smiley BTW!
Hi hope someone can help me with this as its soooo cold...... I have a P reg Peugeot 406 1.8 LX petrol, and the heater blower used to work intermittingly. But now it does not work at all - the light for air-con does come on and so does the orange light on the button but no blower. The heat setting does work because you can feel the hot air if you put your hand over the vents but it has not got any blower at all. I changed the radiator a couple of months ago and put the proper coolant in, and since then it doesn?t seem to want to work anymore. Before I used to get my missus to nudge it with her feet in the passenger foot well to get it working only now it won?t even respond to that. Please help me before I freeze!!

Hello - I just wandered if anyone in this forum can pass an informed eye on the fuel economy I am getting ( or not getting ) from my Sept 2005 Diesel Espace 2.2DCi (non-FAP apparently). It is a 5 speed Auto with the "tiptronic" option - i.e pushing the stick to the left turns it into a clutchless manual. I have tried using both methods. I am not new to automatics and have never had ANY car give such poor fuel consumption in 20 years of car ownership, let alone a diesel.
I bought it used about 2 months ago with 26k on the clock, and have added about 3.5k since. No matter how I drive it - and I am a careful driver, I cannot get better than 25mpg. The only passengers I carry are my wife and 3 year old daughter, but most of the time it's just me. I drive a mixture of about-town and motorway/A roads.
It has gotten to the stage where whenever I see a similar Espace parked somewhere, I loiter to ask the owners what they get ! I haven't found anyone that says they get less than 32mpg at worst, and one of those was a Grand Espace. But then again, none have had an automatic.
I asked Honest John who suggested a figure of low thirties was probably more realistic, and he suggested I should also work out the consumption using the traditional pump to pump method, rather than relying on the car's computer - but I get more or less the same result.
Does anyone else out there own a 2.2 DCi Espace Auto, adn can you confirm if I am unlucky or is this the norm ? Before taking the plunge I did as much research as possible even downloading the spec sheets for my very model (the 2.2 DCI Ellen McArthur Globe edition) to chek the mpg figures. I know they are not written in stone but, still, it shouldn't be this bad - should it ??
Digressing, has anyone else found that when you have the Auto-headlight feature activated, if you drive through somewhere dark eg. a tunnel or under trees, the lights come on but then fail to go back off when you enter a normally lit area ?
PS - at a tangent - here's a tip if your seat belt alarm keeps going off - you've probably got something - even something as light as a book, on the passenger seat.
Thanks for any help ! Read more

Hi I have been looking at buying one of these (albeit manual) and you may want to have a look at getting the engine management system software upgraded/remapped. From other forums there appears to be an issue with the mapping of some models which results in poor mpg. One chap said he had to tell the Renault dealer what to look for before they would believe there was an issue with the vehicle and engine management. Apparently he had legitimate access to Renault service notes. Since there are upgrades, Renault obviously know but do not advertise the fact there is a problem. At my local garage, non-dealer independant, he has a chap who can remap the engines with the correct software. I know this as I had to have a Scenic remapped to correct a problem of lack of power.
I hope you sort out the problem....
Hi, Everyone.
Need some advice, bought a 53 reg Vectra 3.0CDTI (Auto). I seem to be having a problem with the gearbox, I have done some research and look's like Vauxhall does have a problem with it's Auto gearbox.
Basically, the car drives fine, pick's up speed as usual and the rest. Only when I lift of from stand still and when applying the foot brake, there is a slight judder in the gear change, especially in 1st and 2nd.
I have been advised that the gearbox is knackered and that it's on it's way out. When connecting to the BOSCH KTS no gearbox fault code's come up. If anyone could please advise would be much appreciated.
Also if anyone feel's want to take if of my hands as they may be able to solve the problem I have stated the spec and my mobile number.

I have a 03 Focus 1.8 TDCI (115 bhp)
It currently has 130,000 on the clock.
Around 12 months ago, I had a problem with starting & then loss of power & was told by the garage that it was probably the injectors. So they changed the injectors & the fuel filter (as well as flushing the system)
It was running ok although was having a small timing issue on the motorway at around 2000 revs (which later cleared up)
I have since had problems & had a new clutch & fly wheel.
I have also been replacing the fuel filter regulary (the last being 2 weeks ago)
This is due to running it on some 'cheap' diesel due to financial issues.
Today it was having problems starting & tonight I had to start it with 'Easy Start'
On the way home from work, the power dis-appeared & then a mass of black smoke was billowed from the exhaust. The glow plug light was also flashing.
I'm worried that the injectors may have gone again.
But does anyone know about the fuel pump on this model? & whether there has been any recalls by ford?
Or is the lesson that these cars can't be driven on cheap fuel? Read more
Hello confusedm,
Sorry to hear of your situation and I notice that this is your first post.
There are techs on the forum and I am sure someone will be along shortly.
In the meantime it would be helpful if you could give great detail on that cheap fuel. What was it? how many miles was it run on it? how many miles since you stopped using it?
Detail too about how you noticed the poor fuel was a problem, what were the symptoms then?
This will also help others in the future as they read this thread.
Regards
Wonder if anyone can shed some light on this intermittant fault. Polo will run beautifully for days on end then occasionally when warm and as you come to rest, engine cuts out.
It will turn over fine but will not fire up until left several minutes, then drives fine again. No warning light shows at all, did have new coil pack about a year ago when it rerfused to start from cold. A local garage read the fault codes and these showed problem on all 4 injectors, but as garage said it is unlikely they are all playing up, they also cleaned throttle body but could find no other faults. The garage did suggest it may be an ecu fault or wiring problem. I did speak to an ecu repair specialist who thought it was not likely to be ecu as they have no ability to self repair like the symptoms would suggest, but rather was a wiring or relay problem. I realise by the nature of this type of fault it is difficult to pin point but any suggestions?

1998 1.0L engine AEX cutting out at idle when coming to stop...........had same problem i found solution replace the thick vacuum pipe from throttle housing to servo.
before replacing that pipe testing is easy to see if that is the problem:-disconnect the very thin vaccum pipe coming from air filter housing linked by nipple to the thick vacuum pipe from throttle to brake servo vacuum unit, then drive with that disconnected (thin vacuum pipe you will notice revs or the rpm will be contantly high while the vacuum pipe is disconnected) if the car engine does not cut out when driving then coming to stop engine idle, then its the pipe. i discovered that by accident after weeks of replacing this and that real pain.good luck
Hi all,
I've got a problem with the drivers side heated front windscreen. From what I understand the heated windscreen is in two parts, left and right. Well, the right hand side is not working, which really is the side that I would like to have working being the side I look out of!
I am hoping this is going to be something simple like a fuse but am pretty hopeless when it comes to cars! I was told the fuses are located behind the glove box but but it turns out they are not and can't find the fuse box anywhere!!? I'm assuming it's in the drivers side but not sure where. Also does anyone know which fuse I need to be checking?
It's a 2002 Ford Focus mp3, 1.8 if that helps.
Thanks in advance! Read more
These tags do break and we replace the glass. YOu could try something like silver-loaded epoxy for a repair, but I doubt it would work long term.
Hi all,
my 2001 (110) hdi xsara was running fine until i went to start it one morning and it wouldnt start, (it would turn over , maybe catch for a second and stop).
Got it recovered to local independant garage where they started with a process of elimination, ie changing the fuel filter & the low pressure pump in the tank, (got it started and idling but still would cut out when driven).Engine management light came on.
Put it on diagnostic and said low fuel pressure and proceeded to replace high pressure pump.
Car ran as normal(any gear , any speed), for 40 miles ...and now cuts out again when coming up to a junction or when pedal lifted (going down a hill).
Now engine management light back on and car will start but not rev over 2200 rpm.
Any help much appreciated as so far repair bill at £939.....
Many thanks Neil Rocks. Read more
