Happy Blue!

Guys

away on business and have a rental Punto Grande with no instruction book. Clock wrong and cannot find way to change it. There is a menu button at the side, but all it seems to do is to set a speed limiter or warning - don't know which!

Help please!

TIA

Yes, thank you!

It just so happens I am giving expert evidence in a valuation claim matter next week in Court and happened by pure fluke to sit next to the trial judge on the plane home.....Fortunately we saw the funny side and talked cars rather than cases.

Less than 2 years ago I bought a low-milage 1.5-year-old Toyota Avensis 2.0 D4D T3-X hatchback from a reputable dealer.

No trouble since, until last weekend when, without any warning, the clutch went. Talking to the Toyota dealer/garage that I bought it from, who took it apart, they feel that it is due to driver error - no surprise there.

I have now been informed that the clutch (apparently completely destroyed and I "should have noticed something earlier") and the flyweel need replacing at around £1400!

I've never had a clutch go before and that's with over 25 years' of driving. To add insult I was also informed that the starter also needs replacing - that would be another £700 please...

I find it hard to swallow - that car is now 3.5 year old (3 year warranty), and I would expect an £18k car to last just a little longer... The car has done just over 30k miles so far, and was always serviced at the same garage/dealership . I have had cars for many years, I always buy them nearly new (and within the manufacturer guarantee), keep them for 4 years or so, and have never, ever, had to spent a penny on them (mainly Nissans) beyond annual servicing.

I would love to know if anyone else has suffered the same or been told similar by the dealer.

last weekend12/7/2010 clutch went (in lake district )Had to get AA tow to Warrington Toyota dealer .Delivered keys to dealer on Monday morning. On tuesday morning told that clutch had burnt out and flywheel damaged due to excessive heat.Totalcost would be £1400 but as i had had it maintained regulary they would charge me only £1100. Car's 3 yr warrenty expired on 3/7/2010 after last 10k sevice on 28/6/2010 after 55Kmiles .Told Toyota about clutch judder in first gear last year but no action taken by dealer .Not impressed!!!

I know Fords are available with heating-elements in the windscreen; but as I've been looking around for a 'new' secondhand car recently, I've come across several mentions of 'heated screen'. (I'll feel such a chump, though, if the sellers are merely referring to the heated rear screen.) Anyone know of any mass-market car with such a feature? Did I read somewhere that it's available on the Skoda Superb?

(The s/hand cars I'm considering are the aforementioned Superb, Hondas Accord and Legend, Lexus LS400, Toyotas Avensis and Camry, Mitsubishis Galant and newish Colt diesel auto, Nissan QX, Renault Vel Satis and an M-B W124 or the later W210 E220 CDI. Not exactly a shortlist . . . yet.)

Thank you.

Thanks Avant. Correct, it is the parking sensor. Strange there is no reference to it at all in the literature. I havn't tried to disable the stop/start function yet, but may try it later. The park brake is a bit obscurely sited but at least it goes off automatically if the drivers seat belt is fastened and the vehicle moves off, so there is no need to fumble for it. Mine is the D4 too and it is plenty quick enough for me. It is not the start/stop that annoys me, only the fact that the foot brake needs to be depressed to hold the vehicle, which really does blind the poor motorists behind. Not ideal. Cheers Concrete

Ok i have a Peugeot Expert 2.0 HDI with running problems so heres my story.
I bought my van and found a wekk later the head gasket had gone as it was pushuing out water from the expansion tank and the low water light kept coming on.
Booked it into a diesel spectialist garage and the comfirmed with a chemical test the head gasket was on the way out.
I booked it into the garage and guess what £350 labour and £350 parts for the pleasure.
I am had the following done:
Head removed
Crack pressure test and skim
Refit head
New head set and head gasket
New head bolts
Full cambelt kit (gates)
New water pump (had this done just incase)
Oil and filter
Anti freeze
4 new heater plugs
Got it back and after a couple of miles down the road the engine management light came on and it went into safe mode.
Took it back to the garage and they said it was coming up with low fuel pressure.
Cleared the light and on i went the light went on and off for the last week until one day i was out and the van was running all over the shop so limped upto the garage and they said try a new filter and this should sort it. So changed the filter and the light was still on .
The next day the light was out all day and i must have done 20 miles with no problems then on the way back home i started to feel a slight miss.
Then took it out today and the engine management light was back on, i did 2 miles down the road and parked up, came back to the van it started ok and then as i pulled forward it stalled. I tried to start it again but to no avail the after a minute tried again and aay it went, half a mile down the road it stopped again no judder or millions of lights on the dash just died and just the engine managment light on.
Waited another minute and off i went did the again on the way home and finally got home and now i am asking for help.
Thanks in advance.

Hi All.

Hopefully you can help me help my Mum.

My Mum has a 2007 Fiesta with 11,000 miles on the clock that has just had the clutch fail suddenly on a roundabout. On taking it to the dealer, she was told this was just wear and tear and must be down to her driving style. I find this incredibly hard to believe as she has had two Fords before this one (both Focuses) and they have both had in excess of 70,000 miles driven before needing a new clutch. The dealer categorically refuses to do the work under the warranty and wants £750. Her local mechanic (family friend) has agreed to do the work for £320. Should we just go with this?

Technical matters

I am from Serbia, and I have exactly the same problem: on 11,000 miles clutch was destroyed. And the same answer: "You drive with the leg on pedal ???!, you have to pay for the repairing". Official answer from official personnel in official Ford service. Cost was: 900 eur! Car was in the warranty period!

I had exactly the same problem in next 11,000 miles! I go to the another service - they charged me 50 euros!!!

Reason: I was by the service people, and I found that only what they have to do is to change frictions (only plates) on the disc!

Who will buy new car to use it only 500 hours!!! Nobody!

I am on the court with the Ford Serbia, because they like to "steal my money" on legal way - I am close to win!

Regards from Serbia

My freinds Clio has now reached 57k and I think its time it needs a new belt, does the cambelt on this engine drive the water pump if so should the pump be changed? The car dosn't currently use any water and there is no noises coming from the pump.

I have been offered the opportunity by the Hampshire Constabulary of attending a 'driver awareness course' for £74.The alternative is £60 and 3 points .(37mph in a 30 mph limit).I live in north London so about 160 miles of diesel 3-4 hours on the course and say 3hrs travelling.
My last speeding conviction was about 10yrs ago for a similar offence and I have driven at least250,000miles since then.I have a clean licence.
Is it worth going on the course?
Any input would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks

I was able to do the course in a more convenient location. They are run all over the country. When I agreed to the course, the acknowledgement letter I got sent me to dors.police.uk/ where I could log in and search for a local course. All I had to do was tell the original provider that I had booked elsewhere....
