I am sooooooooo tempted. Didn't realise you could buy a Jaguar coupé for this sort of money. What a way to spend a few hundred quid. I wonder what he'd give me for my Vectra in p/x.

As somebody else said... "It's one of those classic 'two best days' cars (the two best days of my life were the day I bought the car and the day I sold it)."

Just need a question answering, my daughter has just bought a 2nd hand 206 (with a new MOT) that has a different tyre on each wheel. My father says this is wrong and the tyres need to be changed to paired ones, I don't think he's right, who's correct, me or him? Read more

This is all very well in an ideal world, but in practice how many used cars do you see with four tyres, all the same?

Very small minority in my experience.

I always change in pairs on the same axle, regardless of tread depth. But if you just go along with what the mechanic says, and he's one of the honest types who tries to keep your bills as low as possible, tyres inevitably get changed one at a time.

Generally all four will be cheaper tyres as well.

"New UK car registrations last month hit the lowest level for any August since 1966, industry figures show.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said that new car registrations were down 18.6% to 63,225 compared with the same month in 2007.
It said that declining consumer confidence was hitting sales across all major European markets.
It has called on the UK government to take "sustained action" to boost the economy and restore confidence.
The SMMT said new car registrations were down 3.8% in the year so far, compared with last year.
"Industry is encouraged by the growing interest in lower-carbon cars, but is concerned by the reluctance of consumers to commit to major purchases," said chief executive Paul Everitt.
As well as weaker consumer confidence, the high price of petrol has also been deterring buyers.
The group did say that falling oil prices could help boost sales.
Although the absolute number of diesel vehicles declined for a second successive month, their market share increased, with the VW Golf the best selling diesel model in August.
"As consumers tighten their belts and move to more efficient models, diesels remain an effective choice," a group spokesman said.

The overall top sellers in August were two smaller cars, the Vauxhall Corsa and the Ford Focus.

Nissan Murano ( there is a new model shortly) - £10K off making it £19999
for a new 3.5 ltr V6.

The 2009 model is $26K in the US - OK, it's not quite the same spec but at £20K Nissan will still be making money.

I wonder when we'll get to see US style personal leasing where they can lease things like BMW 328i for $300/mth?

I'd remove and check the EGR valve, or get it read with a proper machine.

If you did it for a living you would do it 3 hours because you would have all the kit.

Hi there,

I need to buy something which will be good over potholed roads and farm tracks, but also being well-behaved on normal roads. I sometimes have to take 1 or 2 dogs in the car as well, and sometimes my elderly mother-in-law. It does not need to go off-road. As we are now on a much tighter budget than previously, it needs to be reliable as well. My husband has just purchased a 2003 Toyota RAV4 which he is extremely pleased with and I was thinking of looking out for a similar one, it doesnt matter if it is the shorter version, but my budget is £4000 and preferably less, but they are very few and far between. It can also be something like a Yaris, but being high up in the car is quite a good idea around where we live. Obviously maintenance of the car is an important factor too, but most people with Toyotas have said reliability is extremely good. Any suggestions and help would be appreciated here. I am based near to Brentwood, Essex.

They'll knacker any car, 4x4 or not.

That's the best advice by a country mile - I speak from experience of living some time ago 1.5 miles down a potholed lane in Devon. Regardless of what car and how it is shod, the pot holes will kill it if they are a foot deep! Once a year square the sides of the hole. fill them in with stone chippings or tarmac and in between brush the chippings back in that are gradually removed by rain, frost, 4x4s etc. Ours was a shared track and we had a big BBQ every summer where everyone mucked in for the day, enjoyed the work and benefitted.

Seeing a local chav in his corsa with naff oversize blingin chrome wheels got me thinking.

What effect would oversize wheels have on performance? Mainly interested in the 0-60 performance. Assuming that the oversize wheels have increased the gearing my initial thought was that performance would be decreased, but I'm not so sure.

Anyone got any ideas?

Feel free to add any other 'performance mods' that modify the performance downwards :) Read more

What would slow down a chav's car more than anything would be the accumulation of burger boxes and drinks bottles thrown in the passenger footwell.

Obviously by dumping said rubbish at the road side would significantly improve weight and therefore performance.

Good morning.

I have been told i have a 'hall effect' sensor on the filling neck of my HDI car that may be faulty. (they cannot turn the 'diesel aditive minimum level' off?) Is there a way to measure or check this to test if it is indeed faulty? I'm handy with a meter... Read more

Just thought i would tell you what i have found out:
To test the hall effect fuel cap sensor, the readings are:
149 kohms (Cap on)
12 - 15 Ohms (Cap off)

Screwloose may confirm or shoot me down on this ( i think perhaps we've got off on the wrong foot)

I now also have a P1429 Particle filter pressure code. Going to try and test it tomorrow.

I'm sincerely sorry if i have offended anyone....

Hi, in writing from Germany...

I want to switch my Custom Projekt to right hand drive...switching steering wheel,gas-&clutch-pedal is not the problem - i can't move the Master Breake Cylinder to the right side cause the is not enough space...
I'm looking for a Break-Linkage like in the VW Golf 1... the Master Cylinder in the Golf1 is also on the left side... I think many models have such a linkage (you will know that better than me...) & I also think the Break-Linkages are not very popular/ much asked for - so they won't be expensive...... im looking for a simple but strong bolt-on linkage of a right hand drive car with the master cylinder on the left side... surely i have to customise this linkage because my custom projekt was never sold in a right hand drive version - its a Renault Twingo...
I hope someone can help me, give me a hint or whatever...
...to big and bulky is not the problem - what does not fit is made to fit !

has anyone got a picture of such a linkage ?
Any Clues for a good general UK-Car-forum ???
maybe someone knows a small bolt on version of such a "brake linkage cross shaft" or whatever the right word for the thing is ....

I'm sure much of anyone's prices for selling the part would be for time taken to remove it....
Sincerely Sascha Smile
