I've just bought one of these, a 07/57 ex hire job from a VW main dealer at what I think is a very good price (£10k) considering Glass's guide px is £10700!!
Does anyone have any comments about this model?

Are there any known problems with using injector cleaning additive every now and again in the 2.0ltr Ford engine? have done this for years with many a Peugeot diesel with no problems, but I'm a bit more wary with these modern engines. Read more
I use Miller's Diesel Plus 4 in my car and it may have saved a huge bill after I put a bit of petrol in. I triple dosed the tank and no problems after another 10K miles! I don't think it can do any harm - the perceived benefits may be psychological!
3-series 2005 E46 Touring 46kmiles 318i exhibits a 'metallic clatter/chatter' at warm idle is this normal? No different after oil change.
Also I find that at low RPM, circa2000, noticeable when changing up, the car tends to lack power. It takes careful operation to avoid a stutter when changing up. Top end above 4000rpm goes very well, is this normal for this car?
Or I am spoilt in my Astra G 120kmiles 1.6 16v estate which is superior in this aspect?

Is a Merc CLK 320 Avantgarde (2001) better than a BMW 530i sport (2001)?
Similarly priced, what would you buy? Read more
I love the shape of this model CLK. Unfortunately, a possible house move and petrol prices have put paid to any immediate plans to get one. There is a lot of good info on the MB forums and they can point you towards a good independant garage. When I was researching a purchase, the main advice was to check under seals, around wheelarches etc. for rust. If these are ok, you should have a car that is good for many years to come.
I was looking at a few 99 models on Auto Trader last week - they are seriously cheap now. If house prices go down some more and we can get a bargain, a CLK could be back on the cards....
I can`t remember the place but would like to return, but I can describe it.
1986, travelling on ordinary roads heading up from the South of France and I think within a hundred miles of Calais. Motorway was to our right, North east and parallel almost to my line of travel.
Needed a bank and turned left for a couple of miles to a very small town.
On this road returning paused a mile or so outside the town. A small British cemetery of about 100 graves was on our right. On a facing hillside a hundred yards or so further on and clearly fully visible from each British grave, were the same number of grey stone crosses.
We parked nearby and stood and reflected in the fading light and stillness typical of September. Not lost on us that we were British in a German car on holiday, fresh faced from days in the sun in the South, and of the the sacrifice of these soldiers in very different times.
You could almost feel 70 Septembers re-winding until the area was again a battlefield and we could not help but wonder what -if such a thing- their ghosts or spirits would think on seeing us standing there- about to depart for England in a Volkswagen.
Not sought. But a first and chance encounter of the sacrifice of the Great War.

SWMBO and I went on a short motoring weekend to Bruges a few years ago. Her maternal granpa and his two brothers served in the Cheshires, Jim being killed on 7.7.17. Three of the dressing stations near Proven in Belgium were called, Fixing'em, Mending 'em and Bandaging 'em.
Jim is buried in a double grave with a member of the RA, in the little cemetery now called Mendinham on the site of the dressing station. There are German graves there but they face the other way.
All very emotional, we signed the book and left a message.

Hi all
I have a N reg Peugot 306 DXT which fills up with water in the driver's and passenger wells. The water smells of anti-freeze and the loss seems to correspond with the amount of water lost out of the radiator. Some days the water is 10cm deep in the wells slopping around soaking all passengers (3 litres lost) sometimes never leaks a drop.
(same journey every day)
The engine temperature never exceeds 82 degrees in moving traffic and the water system never gets to pressure unless in stationary traffic for 30 minutes in which case the high level fan kicks in at 96 degrees which takes it back down to 91 until the car moves again.
There are visible signs of weater hoses going through the firewall so

Considering this thread is from 2008 I guess the OP has long sorted it.
A friend bought a second hand car a few months ago and has just found out that one of the airbags is missing. Presumably been set off and not replaced.
The dealer doesn't want to know. Is it illegal to sell a car without its standard safety kit?

It's inconceiveable that the bag is missing, but there's clearly some fault with the airbag warning system.
The car needs to go to a Citroen dealer.
I have a 2.2DTi 2003 Vectra Auto, which normally starts 1st time.
However, just recently, if I leave it a couple of days, (on level ground) it turns over lovely (it has a new battery) but wont fire up. The only way to get it to go is to use easy start, fire it up where its running roughly, stop, leave it 15 mins then it starts 1st time.
If I use it daily, the next day it starts 1st time no problem, it only appears to be when its been left a couple of days, can you point me as to what may be wrong please?

Air is leaking back into the injectors; change all the leak-off hoses first - if that doesn't work, then get a garage to change the injector T-seals.

its the 1.9. Its got a load of kit as standard - no options added but things like cruise control, ESP, auto lights & wipers is standard.
My partner had a SEAT Altea DSG 2.0 tdi and that wasnt bad in traffic, and we had that for 15k so i'm happy with the DSG set up. I wont be using the car in town much anyway.
If your car is jerky around town, maybe it needs a clutch adjustment?
