Can anyone give me advice? I am on the second set of BMW wiper blades for an E92 coupe, and I replaced the first set after 12,000 miles.

The windscreen appears to be permanently marked, right across the driver's field of vision, probably following a piece of grit caught on the blade. Thing is, if I use glass cleaner and polish hard, the marks virtually disappear, but then re-appear when the wipers are used.

Now a second mark has appeared, further up on the driver's wiper, this one looks to be just a nick out of the blade edge, but for the life of me I can't see it on the blade!

Anyone have any advice? Read more

The wiper blades on my old car have been on for over three years and well over 100k miles. Still work perfectly. Previous car was similar.

I always keep plenty of screen wash fliud in the reservoir and never switch the wipers on without a good scoosh of the washers first. In continual rain I squirt the washers every 15 minutes or so.

When washing the car I always take care to remove bugs and so on from the glass and give the underside of the wiper blades a wipe down.

Avoid getting any wax or other polish based products on swept areas of the screen.

I think the screen wash stuff has lubricants in it.

Having some right issues with my xenons.

When I turn them on both xenons work, however after 25 minutes of driving ( sometimes less), the passenger side xenon just cuts out. If I turn the headlights of then back on both xenons come on again!

So I personally assume its not the bulb.

I have talked with a couple of dealers and this is what has popped up :

Transformer
Early signs of the xenon bulb going
Wiring issue.

Is there anyone that could possibly help me with this irritating problem.

Thanks for the help. Read more

That's not bad for a HID.

The bulbs can be <£200 and many need a complete headlight @£1000 if the ballast goes.

I have owned my 96 MGF for 18 months but have noticed in the last few months it has started leaking coolant. There might be a spill under the car and it wouldn't happen again for 3 or 4 weeks. I've been topping it up and when I mentioned it to my mechanic, he said "get rid of it" The previous owner at some point spent a grand having the head skimmed so I assumed all was fine. Is it worth trying to resolve this (can it ever be fixed permanently) or should I take his advice. Read more

Thanks for all the advice. Much as I love the car, living in Dublin I don't have access to suppliers of Rover parts and expertise so I think its the end of our relationship.

Comments on the performance of the fuel gauge and computer. Being an impoverished Meldrew I ran the fuel way lower than I ever have before as I had a 5p/litre off voucher to use! The gauge warning light came on with the needle well into the red and with 80 miles indicated as available range. I put in 10 litres and the needle didn't move at all and the range remained unchanged. I drove around for another day and put in another 10 litres and nothing changed, again! I filled up with 40 miles indicated range but only got 50 litres of fuel into a nominal 60 litre tank. As I see this, if you trust the readings you won't run out of fuel which is probably the one would want it

Hi
My girlfriends mother has a 1999 Mercedes 320Sl. It has the matching hardtop which has rust bubbles on both sides. The car has been owned from new and has spent most of its life in a warm garage. The car has only done 14500 miles and on both sides of the hardtop there are small rust bubbles about the size of a 1p piece. I know Mercerdes had some build quality issues around this time but does anyone know the paintwork warranty on these cars? I took the car to have the hardtop resprayed at a local paintshop and they advised to talk to mercedes as they had a similar case on a 1999 S class and the customer complained to mercedes on several occasions and in the end they aggreed to respray the car.
Thanks

Just reading the auction report on this site and it states that a 57 plate lexus LS460 went for £31k - £16,250 under book? Am i missing something here? Just checked and this car CAPS at £32,200 with 23k miles? So while its a pretty fair price its hardly a major bargain.

See article below...

I guess top of the hit parade was a 23k mile Lexus LS460 sold for £31,000, which is £16,250 under trade book for 6k miles over book mileage.

"I'm guessing they relieve you of 2,5k for a couple of screens in the headrests"

The screens aren't in the rear headrests! How very old school:)

They flip - well, silently unfold really - from the ceiling, one for each rear passenger. If there's no DVD in they show whatever is on the satnav screen.

Now it's officially Autumn, according to a dealer friend the time for snapping up a soft-top bargain is now upon us.

Drop-top wise, in the past I've had everything from a chrome-bumper MGB Roadster, Astra Convertible, TVR Griffith, Audi TT and even a Suzuki Vitara (don't laugh, it was great fun!).

The trouble with convertibles is that they can often be very uncool, especially driven by a bloke. Much as I would like a Merc Pagoda SL, cheap and cheerful is the order of the day.

So, I fancy getting another cheap soft-top, up to a max of four thousand pounds, perhaps cheaper. I've tried a few contenders out already. I had a go in a friend's MG TF and thoroghly enjoyed it. I thought it was very snug and fitted my small(ish) frame well. The interior didn't offend me and it handled well - seemed pretty nippy too. It seemed close to the idea of a modern MG - tight, snug, chuckable. I also admired another friend's 1999 1.8 MX-5. Classier interior and great RWD handling. A very handsome shape I thought.

Other possibilities would be a BMW Z3 or even a 90s Lotus Elan. Perhaps a leggy SLK might even be within reach after some serious haggling :-)

Do back-roomers have any other suggestions? Left-field choices very welcome, as are wise comments on what not to go for... Read more
