Hey all, I'm considering in looking at the above titled Bavarian beast.
I've checked out the insurance for myself driver only & for someone who is in their 20's TPF&T isn't bad, nearly the same as an MG ZR.

What're they like to own? What is the 520i like for fuel consumption? although I only do about 6k miles per annum, as I hardly drive during the week, I do ocasionally go on longer trips away.

News article on this website "Motorists 'could be frustrated by road works' " claims (and I quote) "Drivers who are rerouted because of maintenance work could find that they invalidate their car insurance policies if they have a crash on a road they are unfamiliar with"

Now that's got to be wrong - since when has a condition of your insurance been that you must not drive on unfamiliar roads ? Read more

Just a thought you understand

Isn't that connected to the fact that if you re- route and go cross country over rough ground etc then may be you policy does not cover for 4 x 4 ing.

Hi looking for some advice on my Hdi
The car ran fine to the supermarket-we stopped, shopped and went back to the car and it wouldnt start at all ,called the AA man out who plugged in his scanner and it came up with 5 fault codes
P3040
P112
P0380
P1404
P0230
He tried the usual hitting the tank with a hammer but that didnt work and he ended up towing it to a local peugeot specialist who looked and said it was just the connections to the camshaft sensor that he cleaned up and also the No1 injector wire aswell and charged me lots of money for doing so. the day after the battery completely died so I fitted a new one.

The car ran for a week then suddenly the engine warning light came on whilst doing about 50mph and I couldnt rev the engine much above 2k but it kept running and I managed to get the car home. I left the car for a few days and when I started it again the light wasnt on and the car ran fine for about 20mins then the same again-wont rev over 2k. Ive had a look for loose/corroded connection but they look ok to me.

any clues?

I have a Citroen Saxo 1.1 Forte 2002 and the heated rear window does not work. It's not the fuses as I've checked those out. Blower continues to work, so probably not ignition switch problem? (Read that on other sites). No PAS on this model.

Light comes on when pushing the button on the dash, but mist does not clear.

Any help very gratefully received.... Read more

The relay is behind the drop-down glovebox. This problem is nearly always a broken wire near the back door hinge, under the rubber boot. It's usually the earth wire (RH as you look at it) and it's easy enough to splice an extra piece on at the break and push the join into the roof space, making an invisible repair.

Watch the connecting tabs on the glass - they come off very easily.

As per the subject title, really: is the rolling resistance to a car on a wet road higher (because the tyres have to squeeze away) or lower than in the dry? Read more

I'd guess the water would lubricate the tyre to road surface contact area, reducing friction. However, the tread would be doing work displacing water, which would need energy. The more water displaced, the greater the energy required.

Perhaps the next question is: How wet is the road?

What's the better one a 02 1.4 Focus with 53000 miles or a 02 Mondeo 2.0 TDCi with 110k on the clock. I am uncertain as to whether the Focus is a Diesel or Petrol ?

The fact that the original post cannot be read by anyone speaking English makes it difficult to know the real question.

But a 1.4 petrol Focus (was there ever one at that age?) vs. a 2.0 diesel Mondeo is comparing apples and oranges. If there ever was a 1.4 petrol Focus it would be underpowered. The Mondeo would have lots more go in it. But you're gambling on reliability at that age.

Would the comparison not be better between say a 1.6 petrol and 1.6 diesel Focus.

I hear the VW Phaeton 5.0 diesel is quite nice ;-) Basically shares a lot of the important bits with the Bentley Continental GT.

Now if you wanted a cheap Proton Compact Sprint 1.5 (in yellow) limited edition in fair condition I could get you one fairly cheap - step son selling.

Nice simple one hopefully! Oval analogue style clock on mine keeps losing time, only 5-10 mins a day, any adjusting screws behind it or is this something more sinister like an advance warning of a weak battery? No other electrical niggles. Read more

I thought analogue car clocks were 'wound' every few seconds, or have things moved on? Those I've looked at before take a pulse of current at regular, short intervals, so should have some sort of adjustment.
However the digital clock in my Kia Pride loses bucketfuls of time when the car's standing idle for a few days, but keeps perfect time when it's running, and for a few days after each run. I presume it's someting to do with battery voltage, or instrument voltage regulator (would it have one of those?).
