When you buy a new car, do you choose one that is in the showroom or do you order one to your required colour and with your required factory fitted options? Read more
i have a astra dti 1.7 diesel on an 02 plate. can anyone advise if this is chain or belt driven and what the change intervals are if its belt.
thanks Read more
An '02 plate must be an Astra G; {now changed}
it's a belt and the recommended interval is 100,000 miles or ten years.
Strange problem,
Drove the car for about 10 miles or so this morning and heard a noise at idle from the centre rear of the car. No performace issues, just sounded like someone was tapping an empty tin and a small hiss (no, there wasn't a freak in the boot..haha)
Anyway, the sound has now gone (after 50 miles of driving) do you think it was something in the fuel working it's way through. There was a slight whine aswell which makes me think it maybe the fuel pump..Tank 3/4 fuel of V-power from a good garage.
Penny for yer thoughts

Beats me; I've never heard of anything similar that fits the desription.
If it was something in the fuel, then it must have been air. Doubt that you'd hear it inside the car though.
What is the maximum speed you have ever driven? and in which car?

I guess a lot of people who may once upon a time have
been in the habit of pressing on a bit OK.... speeding probably don't do it
much now.
I'm one.
My fastest ever was an indicated 100 mph on a German Autobahn, very briefly, in a Ford Fiesta Mk III with a 1.1 engine.
These days I don't often go above an indicated 70.
As the title really. The wife wants a MINI again and looking at 3ish years old. We have had one before and wont be making the mistake of getting one without aircon and leather as it was a nightmare to get a good trade price for it.
Am a bit concerned that the MINI bubble may burst with the financial panic going on at the minute and as we are looking to keep it only 2 years or so, residual value is important.
No good offering alternatives as I have tried that and a MINI it has to be unfortunately.
Her perfectly reliable 11 year old Rover 214 that we have owned for 7 years isnt trendy enough in the works carpark anymore I suspect!
Personal preference would be to keep the Rover for another year or so and see what the market is like, but is there ever going to be a good time to buy? Read more
"If we have a recession?" !!!!!!!!!
Ignore the technicalities, and assume this crunch will be as bad as anything we've lived through.
Can anyone tell me how to re-set the service indicator on the dash ? Read more
With ign off; press/hold the button that the speedo needle is pointing at.
Ign on and release it when the display reads "Service."
Turn the other button anti-clock until the mileage to next serv reads correctly.
Switch off.
Hi,
I'm still learning, but would like to know if buying a 1.4 SE/Sport (around 2003 mark) would be a good first car. Has anyone got/had one? What are they like?
Thanks,
Luke.

My daughter has a 1.0 Micra bought new in March 01. It's now got over 100k miles on it. Nothing but routine maintenance and brake pads and tyres except a replacement radiator.
Plenty on Autotrader between £2k and £3k. A fun car in a decent colour.
I was just wondering as the French cars always come out bottom of the lists.
I'm going to be buying my first car soon (when I pass probably) and have been looking around (mainly at Ibiza's) but I just wondered whether French cars are as bad they seem?
Thanks,
Luke.

I believe that there is no Haynes manual available for the Mk2 MX5.
Can anybody suggest an alternative manual that would cover all the basic DIY maintenance/repairs on the Mk2.
Your advice would be very welcome
Thanks Read more
Sumpnut is correct. All the usual service items covered, plus brake pads, timing belt etc. From what I have seen the areas where it may differ are wiring diagrams and updated electronic systems fitted.
