I have been looking at some 06/56 plate Merc ML's, paricularly the ML320 CDI, SE & Sport.

After a bit of research on the net it seems there are a LOT of very unhappy MB owners but the models that are quoted all seem to be pre 2005 models.

Now my question is this......did MB pull their finger out post 2005 and start to build decent motors again. Also, have the dealers/service centre pulled the same finger out as I can't seem to see many complaints that are recent.

I have test driven a BMW 330d M Sport which was very good but I do like thought of the ML and you seem to get much more car for the same money.

I am aware ML's/4x4 values are dropping like a stone, but if I can get one REALLY cheap......

Anyway, any comments/opinions on the above would be greatly appreciated. Read more

On the contrary, my customer reckons it is very sharp to drive, far better than his previous ML and RR.

Hi,

Has anyone seen first-hand the new Honda Jazz or not? Anyone know when they might be appearing in show-rooms? My local dealer has Oct 28th penciled in for delivery but said that might go back.

The closest I have got is watching US reviews of it on Youtube.

Thanks. Read more

Hi All

A couple of months ago I posted a problem with my 52 reg Astra, regarding the full beam behaving erratically.
Over the summer months, this kind of rectified itself working properly 99% of the time, and as money is a bit tight at the moment, I foolishly promised myself I would look into getting it fixed nearer winter were I use lights a lot more.
Irrespective of this I have not neglected servicing the car at Vauxhall (£400) later.

For more info please see my other post here (also apologies for not ?closing? that post with a resolution)
www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?v=e&t=60...0

However the other day, after a lot of rain (don?t know if its irrelivent) I flashed out a bus to allow it to pull out in front of me, only when I flashed it out the full beam (flash) didn?t go off I pulled over and tried ever combination of ?stalk wiggling? I could think of, however not even pulling out the key would disable it.

As I was on a busy main road while it was raining I could not really get out of the car and start messing about with fuses, so I had to drive through the town with full beam on (much to the annoyance of other drivers) until I got to SWMBO?s house where I could then have a look at what do to.
Removing the fuse box cover only found the fuse pattern to be numbered requiring the manual to correspond to the fuses, which I did not have in my car.
So starting at the top, the best thing I could do is remove the 5&10amp fuses one by one in a trial and error experiment to stop the battery going flat on me.
Found one that disabled one, however the right hand side, remained on, I had to (again foolishly, but I was desperate) pop the bonnet and physically disconnect the wiring to the bulb) to stop flattening the battery.
The car and all its electrical things (apart from full beam of course) work fine, I subsequently went home and found the correct fuse for the right hand side light (after I thought I went through all the fuses).

I am about to book the car into my regular indie garage, however just wondering what it could have been, as per prev posts it might be the stalk its self, its worth noting that when it did operate ?properly? that sometimes only one bulb would come on.

Sorry to waffle just trying to paint a better picture.

Thanks - Ste

Hi - Just if anyone is interested

Was just looking through some of my old posts, and I came accross this, I didnt "close" it by stating the outcome - so it would help someone else

Anyways a couple of days after i took the fuse out for the full beam the car worked fine, , then after for some reason everytihg else stopped working, (wipers would not wipe (even on wash/wipe I had sopy water all over the windscreen LOL) no indicators, heater fan, heated screen etc, elec windows and the keys in ignition buzzer was on all the time (even with engine running) had to take it to my local indie to have a look at, and it was a relay that had burnt out (£4.96 Cost replacement) and now all is well

Although i could not tell you which one it was, or where it is but thats what caused it

:-)

Thanks

In-car comsumption calculations have been discussed recently. Can an expert (or several) explain what inputs the computer uses? Is it more than counting the number of injections to the manifold and assuming a volume for each, plus counting roadwheel revolutions and assuming a rolling diameter/circumference?

And 'distance remaining': the system clearly doesn't know how much fuel the driver puts in, so the tank sensor is used; but this is notoriously vague. Read more

It matters not really what inputs they use. The data displayed should not be relied upon, and is for comparative purposes only.

For real MPG use brim to brim methods, and for knowing when to fill up use the guage or warning light,

Can someone tell me where the gearbox drain and filler plugs are located on this car? Read more

I must have a rare breed ZX....I searched in area you told me to no avail.

The only plug I found was thwe one mentioned in my previous reply.

It is just to the left of the battery on gearbox casing in full view and very easy to get at......oil stains around it so it obviously has been opened and topped up /changed before.

I was able to get a funnel in and put 2 litres of gear oil in.......all is well so far.

Will try get a link to a pic up for curiousity sake if nothing else

Anyone know anything about getting spare keys for a 206? The key is a modern type with door and boot open buttons in the body, therefore I assume controls an alarm. How difficult (and expensive) is it to get a spare key made up, and where do you have to go to get it?

Cheers. Read more

My wife had a car run into the back of Rover Streetwise last week. The other driver has admitted liability.

We have been provided with a hire car via HelpHire

The Streetwise is at the bodyshop and we have had a 'cash in lieu' circa £2.5k offer from insurance companyas the bodypanels needed are on indefinate back order. We have disputed the car is roadworthy as we think the hatchback will no longer keep exhaust fumes out of the car - this is yet to be resolved.

So if we accept we will have a damaged car returned. I would think worthless and unsalable and the cash offer too low to fund a replacement. insurance company tell us its their decision to offer cash etc which appear correct from policy booklet.

Advice needed in how to deal with insurance company. Firstly should we not accept the car back with cash if not roadworthy (No brainer I think). Secondally how do we get insurance company to 'write off' the car and give us a reasonable settlement.

Obviously we will need to go after the other driver for policy excess and compensation to cover difference between insurance company payout and the cost of replacement car
