1993 1.9 Gearbox filler? - telecaster
Can someone tell me where the gearbox drain and filler plugs are located on this car?

The drain plug is on the bottom rear of the diff housing. Don't undo the one slightly higher up on the gearbox casing - this is the reverse idler shaft clamp bolt and taking it is out is bad! The filler is combined with the level plug in the end casing behind the LH wheel. It's at about 4 o'clock and is a different size to all the others (19mm IIRC). Fill the box (car level) till the oil just seeps out the hole - just under 2 litres - use a bottle with a flexi spout to get it in. Use only 75W80 oil - these boxes dislike heavier oil.

Thanks for the reply Richard.

Found the drain plug ok and drained box, the only plug I found resembling a filler plug was a black plastic hex nut (17mm) with a small white clip on the top!!!!!!!

Am I correct in assuming this is where I fill...(please say yes).

It's normally a metal plug. Jack up the LH side of the car and take the front wheel off. You should now be able to see the end casing of the gearbox. You should be able to see the casing bolts, then at about 4 o'clock there is a slight bulge and a bolt that looks out of place, and is a different size - this is the filler plug.

I must have a rare breed ZX....I searched in area you told me to no avail.

The only plug I found was thwe one mentioned in my previous reply.

It is just to the left of the battery on gearbox casing in full view and very easy to get at......oil stains around it so it obviously has been opened and topped up /changed before.

I was able to get a funnel in and put 2 litres of gear oil in.......all is well so far.

Will try get a link to a pic up for curiousity sake if nothing else
