Dear brethren, I have the option of buying a used honda accord cdti executive 2005 with 80000 mileage for 7000 pounds or volkswagen passat 1.9D 2005 with mileage of 24,000 for 8,500pounds. I think I should be able to afford either of them.
Ordinarily, the choice would have been the vw passat but with the well known fuel pump and engine problems of the passt and the fact that in the JD power of 2008; amongst the family cars, honda was 3rd while the passat came 16th because of poor reliability and poor interior quality and poor services from the dealers.
I am confused really. your advice is needed urgently before I lose the 2 of them from indecision. which one should I buy?

I wonder if anyone can provide some tips please. What would be the most efficient way of gaining HGV qualifications while meanwhile still working in another unrelated occupation? Any views of timescale / costs?
Thinking behind all this is that I, and many of my industry aquaintances have this rather odd seasonality to our businesses where we are astonishingly busy for chunks of the year and then equally quiet at other times. Seems that there is often a need for temporary HGV drivers which would suit us as "fill in" work. Any views, thoughts, positives or pitfalls appreciated.

i recently bought a renault clio 1.1 2001 Y plate recorded as a cat c insurance loss. damage is very minor cosmetic, so minor it passed an mot today unrepaired. it has two previous owners and shows 21000 on the clock. it came from the insurance company with no papers ie service history, logbook as i need a VIC inspection to get it back on the road. after doing an MOT history check on the VOSA website, i discovered one of the MOT's in 2004 recorded the mileage as 98,000 and the following year 19,000. im a bit thrown by this as the car looks and drives like its done 21000. it even still has the original michelins from 2001 all with decent tread, spare unused, hardly any wear and tear on interior. Could it just be a typing error? how can i find out more about the cars true mileage as im worried ive bought a clocked car!! please help!! Read more

Hi guys,
Can somebody tell me how to swap the alternator of a cavalier 95 1.7TD step by step? Do you believe is that possible to be done home with some mechanic knowledge? thanks la lot.

It's nearly always a circuit fault that's at the root of the failure on these; just replacing the alternator itself will often just ruin the new one.

Get the system checked by an auto-sparks.

Just came across a 2005 Astra 1.7 cdti. It struck me that there's been plenty of talk about common rail problems (especially Ford and Mazda) and VAG comparisons, but not much mention of Vauxhall (unless I missed it).

Any views welcome.

My pal had a Meriva with the 1.7 oiler and didn't rate it. Sold it after two years from new.
He now has an Astra with the 150hp 1.9 unit and likes it. I understand this is actually an Alfa engine, which impressed me when I tried it in the 156 Sportwagon.

Does anybody out there remember the location of the fuse or fuses for the electric windows of my 1979 Scimitar SE6A ?? They worked off and on when I bought the car for restoration, but have now packed in. The official wiring diagram shows that an inline fuse covers them, but not where it is located. HELP please! Have you asked this question on the Yahoo Reliant group. You will almost certainly get an answer or the answer may be in the files on specific items. From memory I think the motor also has a built in fuseable link. The inline fuse is quite likely to be either behind the dasboard above the steering column or behind the glovebox or may be behind the trim near the switches. ReliantScimitar@yahoogroups.com is the group site.

Any BRs have any conspiracy theories to do with motoring ?

Having read that many of you are sticking to or below speed limits to conserve fuel and save money;I think fuel price hiking is the perfect big brother tool to get us to obey speed limits, so controlling traffic flows, without the government forking out for expensive road building, or satellite monitoring. Somehow a friend of mine managed to put the latch on the boot lock of my Laguna a couple of days ago, simple we thought, press the button on the boot (next to the number plate) and the latch was in open position again.

The problem is we couldn't get it to re-synch with the central locking. We tried all combinations of locking and unlocking the car with boot open and closed. Nothing! So now when i lock the car the boot stays unlocked.

Anybody got a bright idea of how to solve this?

Thanks. Read more

i hope you have had success but if not then the same thing happened to my laguna (N reg)
to resolve it i had to take off the inner-cover in the boot to expose the locking mechanism and found the corkscrew plastic lever was stiff, so after adding some miraculous wd-40 and moving it a lot it freed up the mechanism then i put it back together (it simply unclicks from the latch)
it locks the boot now from the central-locking, but to now open the boot i have to insert the key into the lock and twist anti-clockwise slightly and push it in then it releases
a pain i know, but better than having an unsecure boot
hope this helped

costumer contact programme

Hi!

I am a Master student from Graduate School at The school of Business, Economics and Law in Gothenburg, Sweden. I am conducting a research on the approach luxury car manufactures take when confirming or welcoming their customers after purchase.
The purpose with this research is to evaluate how manufactures of luxury products confirm or welcome their customers in connection to sales and to identify how this creates value for the costumers.

My questions are:
-Do the brands BMW, Audi, honda, Lexus and mercedez-Benz have any kind of ?customer contact programme? that welcomes customers as new car owners?
-If yes, what is this package/programme comprised of?
-Do the packages differ between car models?
-How do they differ?
- Do car retailers and dealerships have the possibility of adding components to your package?
-Is the customer contact programme offered the same worldwide?

I would appreciate your answers!
Sincerely,
