Now look here, Bruce, Oz is OZ, right? A man's got a right to spend more time with a sheep than with his wife, wear a hat with corks on string, and take good care of his beer. How can you be sure of a chilled tube later, otherwise? Kids? Every time I go home the wife seems to have another one.

Thing is, Bruce, unlike this HJ mob, we're not a bunch of pommie pooftahs. Seen the way they go on and on about cars? What's wrong with a truck if you want to go somewhere? Now where's me tucker bag?

Always the same (cue violins) the sun comes out the sales enquiries drop off.

B&Q seems very busy though.

Or am I imagining all this.

Hi

My wife gets a good deal on lease cars and is due for renewal.
Any clues on how they come to their monthly price.
She is after something 5 doors and Focus, Astra sized and obviously wants to pay as little as possible.
I've heard that resale value comes into it, so a higher valued VW might not necessarily be more expensive than a lower value Kia.
And I'm guessing emissions and "green" credentials will keep the cost down because of the tax.
A recent example would be one of her colleagues who got an Audi A3 1.9 TDI for £150 a month all in (tax, servicing, insurance).
Any tips on which way to go?

Many thanks

>I'm sure they just make the prices up.
It's worked out on lots of things though

A key factor is the "support" (discount) offered to the leasing company by the manufacture. This changes all the time, usually quarterly, but can be *very* substantial. Sometimes they'll subsidise both the price and the finance (to the lease company) rates.

Sorry if this is a daft question - I was going to pick up our new (used) car on Thursday, but in fact my wife is to be the owner. Does she have to be present to sign the V5 before we can drive the car away? Read more

The salesman wont give a toss however she could sign it before you went to collect your new car

hi,
today whilst driving on the motorway at high speeds 70 - 80 mph, i heard a large droning noise which appeared to be coming from the front drivers wheel. the noise got louder and louder although driving was it ok i was worried and slowed to 50 - 60 in the inside lane.
I will get it checked out by a garage in the next few days as its a concern. But does anyone have ideas about what the problem is likely to be? It came on quite quickly and there was a very slight vibration in the steering wheel.

any help / advice much appreciated.

My motorbike has developed a fault and im stuck for ideas. After a steady run at motorway speeds, once I close the throttle to slow down, the engine jerks as though its being starved of fuel. Feels very similar to the good old days when your bike ran onto reserve and you had to grope about to switch the fuel tap onto 'reserve'. If I open the throttle it pulls away nice and clean, but shut it again and it feels jerky (like surging).
Performance is otherwise generally ok except that when the engine is hot, the idle is always a bit rough and lumpy (but sweet and crisp when the engine is cold). Any ideas please? By the way, the bike has fuel injection and is the same one thats in the Honda Blackbird.

I remember having similar symptoms on a CB650 I had in the 80s. Eventually traced it to a filthy dirty clagged up fuel filter in the tank.

Hi i was wondering if anybody here could help me. I have a 1998 S plate 1.4 Megane. When the engine is off or the engine is on i cannot get it into first gear. Second gear is hard to achieve but it is possible. ALso whilst the engine is running there is a very violent vibrating around the whole car. Any help would be welcome. Thanks in advance Read more

Hi, if the engine/gearbox rattles with it not in gear, it sounds suspiciously like maybe the clutch is out of alignment, which would also explain why you can't get it in gear as well.

Have you had anything done to the clutch/gearbox recently? There are obviously other possibilities, but i'd go with that for a starter for 10.

Hope this helps.

I replaced the master cylinder on a citroen zx 1.9 diesel, also replaced rear wheel cylinders.

Handbrake was not holding so adjusted the pawl on both rear drums resulting in a nice firm handbrake.

My problem now is after bleeding whole system the brakes feel mushy with no stopping power......it feels like there is still air in the system!

I removed both front calipers(bendix) and pushed pistons in and out to check they were not siezed, I also greased the sliders/pins.

with the rear wheels raised the handbrake is holding firm yet pressing the brake pedal results in the wheels not holding firm???

I have read horror stories about citroen brakes.....have I bled them in the wrong sequence or have I missed something else?

Someone also mentioned a "dosseur" valve on some citroens....what exactly is this and has the zx got one?

I am really stumped on this one and would really appreciate some advice.

Ta in advance. Read more

ZX brakes with the rear drums are very prone to poor performance and a stodgy feel. They can need going right through with all new parts to get them anywhere near.

A couple of comments on your problem.

Might be worth replacing the rear shoes, they may look OK and you'd think the adjusters would bring worn shoes close to the drum but it doesn't work like that.

Also the biggest thing... fitting a used master cylinder is a big no for me. I'd never ever fit used braking hydraulic parts. How do you know it isn't in poor condition?
