At the start of the A157 going from the Louth bypass to Wragby there is a road-side sign with a symbol of a speed camera, underneath which is the word "Stealth". What is this sign intended to convey to a motorist? Read more
This is well-publicised (at least locally) police campaign warning mainly bikers that unmarked police cars will be operating. Due to the lovely and relatively empty roads around here, a minority of bikers tend to do dramatically excessive speeds, often killing themselves in the process. Unfortunately they sometimes take others with them. So unmarked patrol cars will be on the roads all summer, especially at evenings, weekends and bank holidays. They are supposedly targeting the few nutters that think they're GP riders but no doubt if it's quiet anyone is liable to get their collars felt.
For several years I have often struggled (but succeeded) in doing oil changes with a chain wrench to remove filter. This weekend the Fiesta's filter (not rusted) was really tight and I ended up just breaking links on spanner. So popped out and bought some Oil filter pliers, one turn and hey presto!. I see you can also get strap wrenches as well, but Oil Pliers the best thing to remove stubborn filters without resorting to whacking a long screwdriver or bar through it or is their something better still?

The grey 'rubber' seals on both types should be smeared with a little clean oil before fitting.
It also helps the seal stay in place on the metal cannister/paper filter type,
My Lanos has some strange symptoms to me so I am looking for someone that could shed some light on the situation for me please.
Every now and then, when I go to start the car it will start running as though the timing is out.
But once turned off then given some time, when I start it again it runs smooth as.
I have checked plugs, leads, injectors, fuel filter. the timing is spot on as I have double checked that too.
The problem is with the car doing this only randomly I can not get other mechanics to see what it is doing wrong. Every time it does it I'm on my own. Then once I call someone else it runs perfectly fine.
Would be greatful for help thanks.

replace the engine management coolant temperature sensor, that tells the ecu if the engine is cold, if its damaged then the ecu will apply the choke which causes the car to idle wrong, use more fuel, the car may also judder when on light throttle??? its located under the inlet manifold. you can get at it from underneath without removing anything else they cost about £16.
I have owned a Volvo S80 for about 4 years now. I'm looking to change it but I'm having dicfficulty as to which model to change to. I love the executive salons especially because of the space inside and comfort. I keep looking at the MB E class as the obvious choice but is there anyone out there who has some experience with that model espcially the E 320. I must say the Volvo S80 has given me very few problems and I am looking for a similar level of problems, i know there is no car out there without some kind of problem.
So anyone?? Read more
The new Volvo S80?? Not many about so you'd have a degree of exclusivity if that floats your boat and they are simply beautiful inside.
My Fiesta has recently started making what I can only describe as a squealing sound, generally when weather cooler and damper.
It sounds like it is on the front driver's side somewhere in the engine and so far hasn't affected the way the car drives.
Is okay when I am driving at speed but squeals alot when going around corners, roundabouts and at junctions when I am either slowing and then going faster again or stopping and then going off again. At first I thought it was the brakes but it seems linked with the accelerator.
Have tried gently accelerating and going down on accelerator hard to see which one causes it but seems to be no pattern.
Any ideas what problem it might be and if its something I can fix myself as have a Haynes Manual?
Thanks Read more
Agree maybe just replace with a new belt there cheap enough..
Looking at the HJ road test was impressed by the performance figures for the new model with the auto gearbox. Quite how they manage to get that economy is beyond belief! ;-)

We went to the seaside this morning (Sunday), and parked in a pay and display area. The signs said: Pay and Display, 7 days, 9am till 6pm: see meters for prices. I went to the meter (which stated: 20p per 20 minutes, no maximum duration), started putting money in, and noticed that the displayed finish time was showing immediately as Monday morning; in other words, the meter had been programmed to show Sundays as free of charge (unlike the signs which demanded payment on all 7 days). I had a look at several other cars, and they all had tickets in their windows valid till mid Monday at least. In the end I cancelled, then bought a ticket for just 20p, valid till 0920 on Monday morning, reckoning that I had paid and displayed as required on the signs ("7 days"). but that the meter must be the arbiter of how long my money was valid for ("see meters for prices").
I then spent the rest of the morning wondering whether I would come back to my car to find it ticketed by a warden for only paying 20p for a mornings parking (the ticket also said how much money you paid). It wasn't ticketed, and in fact I never saw a warden either, but was I taking a risk?! It would be useful to know if ever I go back there again...
Thanks!

"You'll also find it on the continent, although I can't remember where exactly."
I presume you mean "Sunday free"? It is certainly pretty normal in France where Sundays are usually free, and Bank Holidays. It is also common that lunchtimes (12 noon 'til 2pm)are free. Froggies seem to have a different attitude to parking - we charge to maximise fees, they seem to charge on the basis that if they make it free or cheap we will use their cafes/shops etc.
Can't ever remember having a problem parking in France (even often with a caravan on the back!!) even right on sea front on bank holidays, on the other hand try Scarborough - costs a fortune and usually a long walk from the beach.
By the way - this does not necessarily apply to Paris - but on rare occasions I have parked there can't remember thinking it was expensive or difficult.
I've been away for a while (as you may have noticed) but back now and Cor!!! hasn't the price of fuel gone up. Phew...
Anyway, needed to the fill the Trajet and SWMBO said, lets try the small station around the corner that has a biodiesel pump. I was reluctant as its usually got a @soory, pump not in use' collar around the nozzle, but this afternoon - Hooray - not only was there biodiesel to buy, but it was 104.9ppl, a saving of a at least 16ppl over local Shell stations; there are no others except Tesco which is not competitive.
So saved about £5 on a fill up. A pleasant end to a nice day in the Lakes. Read more
I shall bear that in mind.
If you can get hold of one a steam cleaner is the best as it leaves no residue to make a tide mark. Failing that, you will need to clean the whole seat so that there is no edge to your cleaning efforts to leave a tide mark.
