Buying a secondhand one - legacylad
I am currently helping friends in California, returning later this month, and have just received an email from a friend. She needs to change her 55plate 2.0D4D XTR with 50k miles as a matter of urgency i.e. within the week. She is happy to part ex the vehicle, but has offered it to me for circa £8,500.
It is in average condition, plenty of minor scratches, but she has owned it from new, has full main dealer service history and no accident damage. Two dogs and children mean it is NOT immaculate inside.
Please could anybody tell me what mpg I could expect in the real world...having looked at the Vauxhall website to value the car, the price seems fair, and those listed on Autotrader online at dealers are much more. I appreciate there is no warranty...is a cambelt change imminent so that I could negotiate on price?
Any advice much appreciated, as I would be buying the vehicle 'blind' by email!

I would say that most people looking for something like this want a nice clean example. this sounds anything but clean. The price sounds fairly keen but obviously taking into consideration the condition it may not be too far off it's realworld value. From memory the D4D's have a cambelt change at 60k so its not far off.
