Could someone please advise whether the 1.6 115 bhp engine as fitted to the Focus is actually derived from the Yamaha designed 16v engine or from Ford`s own Duatec design.?

>>the 1.6 115 bhp engine as fitted to the Focus>>

Depends what you mean by 08 - according to the Ford brochure, the 115bhp 1.6 is no longer fitted to the latest Focus.

The 1.6 they do fit is under 100bhp.

Been perusing for new car, liked the look of the mazda 2, had test drive, just about to start
thinking about colours and when to order, then yesterday picked up what car which had the
new fiesta as a big feature.
Really like the look of it especially the interior, question is, is it worth hanging on till this is in the dealers or given that the mazda will have better residuals should I go for that?
Another small niggle is the review Whatcar gave the mazda, they don't rate it at all.
(Which admittedly is the only poor review Ive read about it)
Any help for a very indecisive bloke appreciated!!! Read more

Wait for the new Fiesta and then test drive them both before you decide.

Hi all

Just bought a 406 HDI 90 with water leak, traced it to the thermostat housing.

I have put everything back except the turbo pipes and now it won't start!

Turns over, fuel is is priming but nothing.

Also I noticed the immobiliser icon on the dash does not come on although the bulb is working? I cannot remember weather it did before ony had it for 1 day.

I recently had the same problem after fitting a t-belt kit and it was the fuel inertia cut off switch...red rubber button located usually on either drivers or passengers side at the bulkhead ( just behind the engine bay ) and if you press it and you hear it click down it then is de-activated and will let the engine start... its worth a try.

I am looking to buy a second hand van (around £3k) for transporting dogs around in (e.g. Berlingo/Kangoo maybe an Expert/Dispatch size)
Does anyone have any advice on what commercial vans convert well to LPG. I have heard to avoid Japanese makes and Berlingos suffer from valve seat discretion.
Also, do any vans have sunken spare wheel compartments? I need all the room I can get in the back of the van for cages.
A local LPG garage fits tartarini systems. Are these well regarded?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Read more

The chances of a police dog-handlers' van being thrashed is pretty unlikely. It's almost certain
to have been assigned to one officer not been a pool vehicle and most trips
will have been inside the legal limit. Police dogs normally live at home with their
handler so the van goes home too.

Plus the dog is mighty grumpy if its thrown around the back and likely to bite its handler on exiting same.

(mind some forces dogs are so wimpy they cant bite thier pedigree chum, let alone a scroat I saw one case where a handler had to lift and carry his dog over a 5 bar farm gate - I ask you - suprised the handler didnt bark himself)

Squeaking sound come from front brake every now and again. It doesn't happen consistently i.e. sometimes work perfectly while other times just give out this annoying sound. This annoying sounds come out more often than usual in the past 2 months.

Just got the car back from service & MOT. The mechanic suspect it might have something to do with brake disc being distorted perhaps? He hasn't fixed it as he couldn't work out why after checked and polished brake pad etc.. What else? It passed MOT as it worked perfectly then!

The mechanic works from his back garden workshop, but has been really good all along. Will a proper car lift shows up something wrong, which means I need to bring it to a more well establshed garage? Read more

"Low pad warning squeal device?"

My Mazda 6 certainly has this - check your Corolla's handbook to see if Toyota do something similar.

Fiat Punto ELX Automatic/Speedgear Experienced total instrument cluster failure. Watchdog ran a program in April 08 on Ford Focus cluster failure and Ford willingness to make good. Was wondering if anyone out there with Fiat Punto experienced similar fault and what they have done about it? Fiat dealers quote over £450.00 to repair. I thought this excessive, your opinions appreciated Read more

I, too, have a Fiat Punto (5years old) and the instrument cluster failed. I paid £500 to have it replaced! After seeing the Watchdog programme, I contacted Fiat using the letter format on the Watchdog site. Fiat's response was that there was 'no intrinsic problem that they were aware of', end of story. I replied indicating my disgust and comparing their response with Ford's. Ford offered to reimburse customers their costs over £99. I suggest you contact Fiat. The more customers who make them aware of the problem the better chance of a more positive response. Good luck.

This evening I followed for some distance on a busy city road two cycles. The first ridden by Dad had a box like trailer affair and inside was a baby. The second bike ridden by Mum had a child seat on the back containing a child aged around three. On its head was a an oversized cycle helmet The child was leaning heavily to one side.

Is the absence of common sense is there any law against carrying children like this?.

I was going to put an entry on this thread myself...but there's no need to. DP's entry sums up my thoughts entirely.

When i ride my m/c on a road, there's plenty of things i ought to be able to do...eg. ride down a main road with the right of way...but in reality i have to adjust to stay alive. It's the same principle with kids on bikes.

Off road..................................yes
Very quiet residential street......yes
Busy road...............................you must be stark raving bonkers
