Ordered a Hyundai i10 in early April and were told we should hopefully have the car by late June. Heard today from the dealer we are looking at August so will probably end up being a 58 plate in September.

On my Mk4 1.25 LX Fiesta's MOT failure sheet, listed "Handbrake and rear brakes weak".
Before retest, put handbrake 3/4 on and tried to push car on the flat, would not budge an inch and no creaking noises either.
During repairs they replaced the rear Flex brake hose and bled the rear brakes.
Also did small amount of welding.

Reasonable repair costs (2 hours labour + hose) but no mention of any work done to handbrake or rear brakes other than above. Would this work remedy weak brakes?

Anyway passed retest, but not sure the brakes were a failure on the initial test anyway.
(Hose and welding did need doing so no argument there).

Am I within my rights to ask for the actual brake force readings from initial test, should I want to see them?

Personally I wouldn't bother about it, it was obviously going to fail anyway on the other items so why would they put down something extra to what was actually wrong with it. Just ask the garage what they did to the rear brakes and I'm sure they'll tell you. It may have just been that the rear brakes may have been weak and built up a bit of crud inside the drums. By the time that they have bled the system and taken it for a proper (mechanics) roadtest, it may have cleaned the rear brakes back up nicely and then flown through the efficiency test.

Difficult to say without seeing it ;-)

11 years old. Could have been pampered with a 'proper' full service history, and therefore worth looking at. Could have been abused, no MOT, and therefore worthless.

Hope somebody can help me with my squealing wheels. Here's what is happening...

- After about 20 mins driving a squeal starts on the passenger side wheels
- The squeal disappears when steering to the right
- The squeal disappears when applying the brakes
- The squeal is worst when steering to the left
- The squeal is worst when driving at faster speeds
- When I stop, the wheels are incredibly hot; I presume due to some friction going on
- I have taken the car into a garage where they checked out and cleaned the brake pads and this resulted in no improvement

Has anyone experienced similar? My next step is to take the car into a Vauxhall dealer - generally very expensive...

Appreciate any responses Read more

I'm having an issue with my 1990 TZS auto's exhaust pipe as the bolts have worked themselves loose or simply corroded to a point where the springs no longer hold any tension problem is the nuts on the bolts won't move and citroen main dealer {note correct spelling, ie, starts with a D and not ST} is talking £16 for the pair are these springs necessary or will any exhaust bolt which fits do the same job?

Cheers Read more

Hello everyone I'm new to this, I'd be very grateful for any suggestions

I'm utterly sick of speed bumps wrecking my exhausts! So I'm looking for a vehicle with sufficient ground clearance that I can stop single-handedly keeping my local Formula1 in business

Seems I am probably looking at a 4x4 but I couldn't justify an engine larger than 1.6L

Oh and here's the catch I only have about 1k to spend...

Any recommendations?

Thanks :-) Read more
