Considering to buy a 2007/57 2.0 diesel automatic. However, I am disappointed to read several owner reviews on What Car? complaining of diesel engine problems. Do any HJ list members have problems with recent model Zafira diesel autos?
If not the Zafira, I'm looking for a reliable 6 seater automatic, but I'm coming up with a dead end everywhere I look. All the alternatives (Touran, Verso, Grand Picasso C4) seem to have auto gearbox problems. The Mazda 5 looks a bit small; the Honda FRV has that awful 2 x 3 seating, while the Grandis fuel consumption is too much. Hence, Zafira looks to be the only show in town.
Advice welcome. Read more

Not surprising if the ?collection? is so close to a public area.
Was this man on deals on wheels (old show by mike brewer and a another), i seem to remember a woman selling her trabant to him despite breaking down on the test drive!
He came alone so towed it away on a Mercedes e-class. I think she wanted 300 GBP for it, that was ten years ago.
I have a MK2 BX hatch automatic 1990 XU9 engine, I need to locate the Pressure Release Screw to change the filter in the LHM res also to change the front brakes: The friendly specialist says it's supposed to be a 12mm nut style thing at the front of the Regulator and it's not!!
Is this bolt/nut style thing at the top or the bottom

These have been checked no puddles of green goo anywhere. Going to replace the suspension parts anyhow as I do extreme mileage (40k+ and before anyone says buy new car these cannot do the mileage had three on 10 years all died at 50k)
hi all you knowledgeable people! i have just bought a micra 1.3 si 98 model.
problem 1: when you apply brakes there is a light judder ( i almost describe it as a wave??!! ye i know that sounds daft!) that you feel through the steering wheel and pedal. it only comes on at 30 down to 0 progressively slowing as you slow down. what cold it be? warped disks? someone suggested bushes in steering.this scared me!
Also my car im assuming as it has abs light has abs. could this have something to do with the judder?
it looks as if its got new rubber gaiters on the front and wondered if maybe someone hadnt connected the abs right? how would i check the abs system is all good n working? iv got ma dear old pa on the case however hes a carb man back in the days without abs but hes learning fast bless! we'v looked at pads n disks & visually they appear ok.
problem 2: there is a wining noise coming from the rear not sure which side, this gets faster as you go faster less noticable around 75-80 gets louder as you slow down. iv had the wheels off and tried to check for any play but cant really tell if there is any, as the brake drum cover thing moves. how can i see if there is any play?does anyone know if you can replace just the bearings or is it a complete hub needed? if a complete hub is needed do i have to buy the abs hub kit, im thinking yes as this has sensors? fitted?
any advise would be lovely iv had every model micra including the new k12 which i wouldnt advise anyone to buy as its a renault! thus being the reason id like to fix n keep this little micra! thanks! ;) Read more
hi guys! well i replaced the rear hubs (new bearings in) then took the brake drums off give them a good rub down back to metal & cleaned them right up.
Its sorted the juddering out! woohoo!
i ground the front disks with an angle grinder put new pads & shes all good!
can anyone tell me if i can adjust the servo pressure on my 106,as i have read it on the car by car breakdown. if this is possible how do i do it?

Sounds more like adjusting height of pedal!
Can you think of anything that manufacturers could have done earlier ( a decade or two for example) in car development?
I`m thinking of relatively simple systems that did not depend on development and use elsewhere first, such as modern electronics.
Discounting that then (and for example) why did not the great engineers of the day not realise closed box sections would rust, or for that matter not ask for galvanised steel?
How about plastic bumpers? I had a toy boat in 1958 made of allegedly better plastic than the Maestros bumpers thirty years later.
How about simple electric power steering?
Other examples ? and why not deployed earlier? a lack of `lateral thinking or just heads in the sand?

It was only in c. 1987 when LR divorced and became LR Ltd. that development really took off. Discovery 1989 with Tdi. LR increased the list price/ profit margin of the RR and sold more!
Please help, My daugters car is an R reg polo 1.4. ( sorry im not sure of the mileage at present, but around 120000) She was happily driving when all the lights on the dash went out. Radio, indicators all ok . It then started to steam and over heat-- no fan working. She has checked the fuses and all is ok. Any help -- please. R/R Read more
My 97 Polo did this in 2001. Damn thing blew its fuses at traffic lights.
It also blew the horn up.
Try replacing all the fuses. They might appear ok but in reality could be cooked.
I have to be in Kensington Church St near the junction with Ken High on Monday. Need to park for 2-3 hours and have access to the car for loading / unloading. Any local tips for parking? Or will I simply need squillions of coins for the meters?

Glad it wasn't too bad shoespy. If you took the first, small left up Church st actually and found a parker on the left a hundred yards or less in there, I would have brushed past yr motor perhaps one or two days a week collecting smallest grandnipper from school in that corner. But it's the hols now. And my car would have been smugly parked on double yellows round the corner in the place that has always worked for me, and most people, but that is said not to be 100% reliable even with a scrawled notice in the windscreen. Still, long live local anomalies and privileges.
Is there a standard internet smiley-style symbol for fingers crossed I wonder?
I have been told by a very good friend of mine who also happens to be a Traffic Officer that small plastic "coke type" bottle are being filled with harmful and corrosive substances such as paint-stripper, brake fluid and battery acid then left in the road for unsuspecting motorists to run over. The outcome of this will be obvious to any serious motorist. There has been 5 reported cases this week in the area my pal works in and the Police suspect its a bunch of kids who are off school this week. This is not a wind up or a late April fool, its genuine and credible information from a very reliable source so be very wary of running over anything in the road. Read more
I guess it is the strength of the chemical within as opposed to the grade
of the plastic?
Bit of both perchance?
Dreadful story, and a reminder that you never really know who you're dealing with -

I like the bit that reads "Mr Gilbert had a limited life expectancy."
He was 79! :-)
It's a 1.9 diesel, same as used in the Astra, Vectra, SAABs and many other places in FIAT world too.
The 16v versions (150 in the Vectra, 120 & 150 in Astra/Zafira) tends to have swirl valve failures (pretty much all of them) at quite low mileages. Most tend to get fixed whlist under warranty. The word is that the design has been improved, so a 2007 car may be OK.
If it fails out of warranty it costs about £800-900 to put right as it involves swapping the inlet manifold and a new cambelt has to be fitted.
Other than that, they tend to be very reliable on the whole. The Auto on the diesels is the excellent 6 speed AW unit also used by Volvo, Toyota and others. No big problems with that either.
HJ mentions water pump failure in the CBCB, but TBH I've never seen this reported any where else, including owner forums.
