recently went to a dealer to purchase a new car and because i was in my work clothes, fleece with company name on and work boots, they would not give me the time of day, two days prior to that in smart cloths could not get rid of salesman. so instead went to a family owned garage and brought a new car for our women and they were very pleasent. why do car dealers judge on looks because i will never go there again or recommend them to any one.

It's about time they removed the tolls from the Dartford crossing. Anyone can see that the main cause of congestion is people queueing for the tolls.
I don't believe for an instant that there'd be a massive increase in traffic across the bridge if tolls were scrapped; it's not exactly expensive to cross.
How many can you have in your garden?

I didn't know you needed planning permission to park cars on your own land!
am in renewal mode, surfing/ ringing around and one company mentioned £15 "may be charged" for changing details. Why? "Because that is what we may charge". Which means they will charge!
So, in the often likely case of changing, say, a vehicle or home address, they whack on a fee for what involves a few keystrokes. Am now going to ask every company which seems to be offering a good deal if/what they charge for this laborious service.
Anyone else experienced such a charge, and if so how much?

Last October changed the car - 1st time in 6.5 yrs (Breakdown & Insurance with same Cos for all the time).
Phoned up Greenflag took 2 mins and the car reg & description were changed - NO Charge.
5 mins later phone E-sure about the same matter - the £££s will remain the same but there is a £20 admin charge.
Off with a letter - GF take 2 mins and no charge, E-sure 2 mins and that will be £20. 3 days later a letter saying they would refund the £20.
Policy renewal arrives charge is now £17.50 - still Highway Robbery.
They quote £181 - about the same as last year. Check on Tesco Comapre - my Ins Co and same details almost £40 cheaper. Off with another letter - £39.85 reducation in cost.

In support of the new Fiat Panda, my daughter's 1.1 Active has clocked up 25,000 miles in 2 years and, despite my obsessional attention to detail, we have found absolutely no faults and have had to make no warranty claims.
Who else has a car under warranty who has had no reason for a warranty claim? Read more
Three-year warranties.
The third year is 'dealer backed' to defeat the new car supermarkets/importers who can only offer the standard two-year pan-European warranty.
A question for the hauliers out there.
The large quantity of east European lorries on the road network. Are they migrating to and from Europe on deliveries. Or have they brought their own rigs over and are working here for British haulage firms? Read more
Another great attitude to employment imo.
The big companies move jobs to make more(millions or billions etc) profit whilst the remaining
workforce is left to survive on miminum wages and tax credits. So the big cats
make fortunes the workers get little; and then they have to pay tax to help
each other survive; ironically. And this isnt a political broadcast; its an attempt at eye
opening!
Yup! Call it the Free Market, Globalisation - whatever. I don't need my eyes opening, seen it happening a good few years ago in my own job.
Hello,
I have just purchased a 307 sw 1.6hdi. Its 2 years old with 38k on clock
The clutch pedal seems to get stuck down when I first get into the car. It seems to ease up after a few pumps. I have to flick it back up by hooking my foot underneath it. I have trouble getting into first when the pedal is stuck down.
I tried WD40 on the spring, but the problem doesn't seem to be with the spring, it feels as if its further inside..
Is this a sign of the clutch likely to fail, or is it just the hydraulic/mechanism needs adjusting or something?
many thanks for any advice before I get stung at a dealer..

Assuming I'm allowed another "old cars" thread.
When I was a child I always liked Rover SD1's. I was always excited to spot a Vitesse or the last Vanden Plas 3500EFi models.
But what were the actually like to drive and own? Read more
The autos were designed with a high stall speed which meant the engine would race ahead for a second or two when booted from standstill.
It felt like a slipping clutch and some owners wrongly reported the sensation as a fault.
... someone or an outfit in the High Wycombe/Aylesbury area? (I could do a Yellow pages routine but I'd rather have a recommendation.) It's for a small ding in the bonnet of my Cooper S - met with a large stone thrown up from the opposite carriageway of the M1.
When I've got the dent sorted I'll be asking about who can do the paint touch-up job. :-) Read more
My 2004-54 Vectra 1.8 LS estate started with a vibration yesterday afternoon which then turned into a rumble and felt 'a bit funny' above 40mph. The vibration feels like there is something on the tyre, but is definitley mechanical. It feels like it is coming from the front passenger side of the car and is much owrse when turning right.
I have booked the car into the dealer next week to investigate, but I am not keen on using the car just in case I do more damage.
My guess is that the wheel bearing may have failed, but I am not entirely sure.
Is there a history of this sort of thing on Vectras? Also, bearing in mind the car is only 3 and a half years old with only 37,000 miles on it would I be right in trying to seek a contribution of costs from Vauxhall? It does strike me as being a potentially expensive job.
I would appreciate any thoughts - thank you in advance!

Im thinking worn cv joint which is a little cheaper for labour etc.

This one is classic!
in 1930, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh felt slighted at the British Rolls Royce company?s refusal to accept an order from him for a new Rolls Royce car. Reacting to the refusal, the old Maharaja put some of his old Rolls Royce cars to haul garbage dung and filth in Patiala city to the chagrin of the all-powerful Rolls Royce-loving Viceroy and the British ruling establishment who quickly prevailed upon the Rolls Royce Company to comply with the old Maharaja?s wishes.
