Hi

I have been running this car on 100% veg oil for many months now. It is well known that veg oil attacks rubber and I've been monitoring the fuel pump for any signs of leaks fairly regularly. I have now noticed that there's a small leak which is obviously only going to get worse.

I presume the rubber seals on the fuel pump are on the way out.

Does anyone know a good diesel specialist (preferably in Essex area) that can replace the seals? The fuel pump is the Bosche unit fitted to these engines.

How much is it likely to cost?

Thanks Read more

Red arrow is where the drip forms - cannot see well enough to see where the leak is coming from exactly.

It drips 3 or 4 times a minute from the place marked by the arrow.

Hi,

I recently purchased a 04 reg merc c-class saloon c220 CDI diesel with 90k miles. Car runs fine but there is always a lingering smell of diesel / oil in the cabin and outside the car. Patriculalry if you put the blowers on full when starting the car. There are no apparent leaks and the engine looks clean underneath the bonnet with no oil spills apparent.

Anyone come across this b4 or know why?

Hi folks

Often get the impression that the engine runs on for a second or two after switching off. Can't say it happens all the time.

NB: I'm not confusing this with the HVAC flaps and motors which seem to sometimes change position when the power is switched off.

Scared it was maybe some oil leakage through the turbo bearing seals, but since engine uses virtually no oil, think I can discount this.

Searched forum, thinking I had read about this before, but couldn't find relevant posts.

Comments please........ Read more

Interpretation of "a second or two" could depend on how fast your body clock is giong at the time. I know a diesel tends to stop more abruptly than a petrol engine, due to the higher compression, but it could be just the flywheel effect which is just allowing the engine to run over a couple of turns. My TDCi engine stops immediately as soon as I turn off the ignition.

Turning off the ignition turns off the HP pump-engine runs till pressure drops.

The HP pump is actually driven mechanically by the cam chain, do you mean it turns off the injectors ?
If so, how can the engine run when the ignition is off unless fuel (or oil) is being drawn in from somewhere else. Or are you saying the injectors default to open when powered down ?

The tailgate handle on my 55 plate focus estate no longer lets me into the boot, I can however get in with the boot release button on the key.

When you pull the handle there is nothing happening at all (no lock sticking etc) which makes me think this is a sensor or something electrical.

The car is German and I am living in Finland so currently don't have an English handbook.

I did have a quick look at the fuse diagram but could not see anything obvious. I also removed the trim inside the tailgate to see if there was any wires loose etc but they all look like they are still connected.

If anyone else has had this problem or has any advise it would be greatly received as this problem is becoming very annoying.

After a bit more poking around yesterday I have come to the same conclusion, any idea if the switch is a easy (and cheap) part to replace?

I test drove a b6, but thinking about maybe a b7 - does anyone know what the difference is, and are they child-friendly?

New A4 looks to have much improved rear seat room over previous version but I
understand the Avant version doesn't come out until end of 2008 so wasn't any good
for me (company car change). If you're after the A4 for family use then might
be worth hanging on for the new Avant.

But this is the B8 you are talking about not the B6/7 ???

Having read this I feel

1. Will any driver actually admit that they have a tailgating problem?
2. If not, why bother issuing this press release
3. Some of the advice is dubious - how will checking tyre pressures prevent tailgating?
4. One piece of advice is that if you are being tailgated, move over. Mmm, at least I now know that by tailgating others, I will get the road to myself as everyone pulls over! Read more

I once was 'pushed' through traffic lights on amber I decided it wasn't safe to stop as the car behind me was fast approaching... As I crossed the junction I could see a police van in the left hand lane of the farside carriageway and panicked a little.... The nerves kicked in when the blues came on but then I noticed the car behind me had followed me through on red.

Couldn't hide the grin on my face as I saw him pulling over just after the junction.

Note: make/model/year not relevant but thought it would attract some attention.

What grease can I use which will not rot rubber/plastic? It is for a legitimate use!

I used to buy rubber grease from Halfords years ago for the Morris Minor brakes but they looked blank when I asked yesterday. All they could suggest was CV joint grease. Read more

Bought the above car from a Skoda dealership 2 weeks ago, the car is almost 3 years old and has done 17950miles.

Last week when driving there was an loud grating noise that sounded like metal scraping on metal coming from behind the drivers seat, but underneath the car. I pulled over thinking I had driven over something. Nothing there. The noise disappeared for a couple hundred yards and came back even worse.

I took it back to the dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong...or so they said. It hasn't happened since however...now the engine doesn't drive as quiet as it should do and gently rattles and the exhaust sounds slightly noisy. Reversing it cuts out on me.
Friends have said it could be the gearbox, the exhaust, the valves in the engine and the camshaft?

I want to take it back to the dealership but wanted to let them know what to look for. This is the 2nd Fabia I have returned to them in the past month.
Can anyone advise me please? Read more

Nothing comes to mind on your strange noise - maybe a stone stuck somewhere.

Is this the 12-valve engine; engine code would help.

Managed to do it. Looks like it won't cost me anything.

Initially it wouldn't recognise me, but with a quick phone call to DVLA's helpdesk got exactly the right advice and a workaround. Finding a password was a problem (really hard to think of one in the criteria required)

I have had it for nothing ! A one letter change in my postcode (foisted upon us by Royal Mail
five years ago) means that in DVLA's eyes it qualifies as an address change. Brilliant. Read more

In N. Ireland we have always (well as far back as 1966 when I got my licence) had photo licences that were renewed every 10 years. We seem to have survived those terrible impositions without harm.
