On the Superchips website you can see a dyno plot before and after Bluefin fitting, for the 2.0 140bhp TDCi motor.

It's listed under S-Max 2.0TDCi.

Don't know how accurate their dyno is, but the "before" figures are:

154bhp at 3500rpm (and 150bhp+ to over 4000rpm)

366Nm (about 260lb-ft) at 2390rpm (with more than 350Nm available from 2100 to 2900rpm).

I presume these are "at the flywheel" figures.

That's interesting, I lurk on the SMax owners forum and I believe they have Bluefinned the same engine in the SMax.

Before chipping I would very, very strongly recommend spending 30 minutes checking the connections and hose clip positions on your intercooler hoses, and the integrity of the vacuum hose connections that control EGR, the VNT mechanism etc.

On my Mondy IV they were NOT very well fitted from the factory -- especially at the exit from the intercooler, which was weeping a lot of oil.

Over the course of a couple of hours, I've sorted these problems with HUGE benefits to driveability, and can describe to you how you can check & sort them with minimum effort. Or if you live near Manchester, bring your car round and I'll do it for you :)

The biggest job is removing the driver's side headlamp to get at the intercooler exit hose connector.

A gel was going to see an Association Footballl game, but ended up halfway across the Styx near York:

"The journey from the family estate at Althorp, near Northampton, should have been a straightforward 85 mile hop south down the M1 to Chelsea?s Stamford Bridge stadium.

But it went wrong when the driver typed the destination into his sat-nav and then dutifully followed the instructions 146 miles north to the village of Stamford Bridge near York."

Apparently, neither the driver, the passenger, nor the "controller" at the taxi firm noticed anything amiss until the end of the journey!

Help please. I am planning to change the oil but am unsure whether I need to remove the large metal undertray to drain the oil from the sump. Any advice would be appreciated

{seeing as you have posted the same question as yesterday, I'll delete the previous one} Read more

BTW, it's very much a plastic undertray. If what you're looking at is metal then you must be in the wrong place or looking at the sump?

Car is a 2004 2.2 Sri Direct.Car has covered 50k miles.Due its MOT so went over the car yesterday only to find that the Hankook Ventus Sports 225/45 x 17 tyres I had fitted only 15k miles ago have worn on the inside edge of the rears. Both showing similar wear but the nearside tyre is perhaps slightly worse.Previous tyres were 215/50 x 17 Goodyears and they lasted 35k.The car has never been bumped or to my knowledge, hasn't hit any potholes. (I am the only driver). Is it the fact that I changed to a wider tyre (all round) that could have caused this? Very alarming !!

Sorry to drag up an old post.

I was looking at a Vectra today and asked what the common faults were with these cars....

He did mention that he heard that Vectra's rear tyres have a tendancy to wear unevenly

My ten 11 year old Golf has finally caused me a problem. It has been driving perfectly for years until yesterday. I turned the key in the ignition and the engine turned over but failed to fire up. Trying to jump-start the car didn't work either. All the electrics are okay and the relevant warning lights are lit. My initial thoughts were spark plugs, alternator but these along with the battery, HT leads and distributor cap are all new and working fine. A new ignition coil has been fitted and not sorted the problem. The garage is stumped. They say there is no spark or fuel going to the engine. They think it may be the immobiliser but i am not so sure as my immobiliser would normally not allow any turn over or use of the lights. Any ideas folks??
I am not very technical so keep it simple please. Thanks

A quick check for a blocked cat is to unscrew the oxygen sensor, leave a hole for the gases to escape and try it.

It will be a bit loud.....

Yes I did a double take as well. Just filled Mrs P's car with Shell Vrooom because I spent more than £30.00 got a free model Ferrari. Ah well, thought it was too good to be true. :-( Read more

Actually just in confirmation of my personal suspicion of my own deteriorating sanity, I sometimes used to use my Westfield for work when I had it, just to ring the changes on days when I didn't need more than a briefcase and a laptop. Sold it when the hearing started to suffer and the addition of SS jnr caused a weekend seating shortage of course.

Always been curious about this: car needs a service, do I take it to a main Ford dealer like I usually do and get a Ford stamp in the book and the reassurance that they have Ford diagnostic equipment and use Ford parts or seek out a bargain service from a (trusted) local independent garage and save money? Is it worth paying the premium for a main dealer service? Car is out of warranty now so I have the choice. What pitfalls are out there? Heard horror stories about main dealers' rip-offs so any advice gratefully recieved. Read more

Got to be independent, Boggy, and to be perfectly blunt I'd say the same for any car save a prestige motor, which needs exactly the right kind of stamps to maintain its value.

Yours just needs a stamp, and seeing as the profit margin on main dealer servicing is a little on the large side (with prestige dealers it's often north of 60%) I'm not terribly inclined to throw money at a posh palace that does the same job by a glossier name.
