Interesting discussion on Radio 4 consumer programme about a guy who bought a cloned car after having it checked clear from a RAC inspection.

The VIN number from the windscreen was taken as reference but this had been swapped somehow.... Read more

Interesting story in the DMail today about folk throwing rubbish out of a parked car window

happens a lot round my way but they usually have someone driving the motor, but try to trace it and plate has no tax ins or mot, and getting more common as people decide to use motors to dump rubbish instead of using the tip, even had large trailer with no plate on dumped on local roundabout

Alright Gibbo, I respect your opinion. I will disagree though. Some poor souls are too timid to even contemplate taking on what they see as authority, I am quite prepared to do a bit of 'hand holding' to help someone through a legal/civil quagmire. If ignorance was a crime I suspect we all, at some point would have served time! As a famous man once said

"being clever doesn't prevent you from being foolish"...

It beggars belief that manufacturers only fit daytime running lights at the front when rear end shunts account for so many accidents, especially on motorways.
Until I checked I assumed that my car displayed these lights at the front and the rear, and I suspect that many other drivers are under the same misapprehension. Read more

I have a 2015 Picasso which has Daylight Running Lights and really like them but I have to remember when to turn on the headlights, I try NEVER to drive on side lights, only with DRL's or dipped/main beam, side lights should be for parking only in my view.

I had assumed when I bought the car that it had rear DRL's as well, it does not. My previous Picasso did not have front or rear so I had them fitted and the Car electrician found that there was fittings for the rear ones but not in use for UK spec cars.

I am now having rear DRL's fitted to my current Picasso next week as it seems totally wrong as mentioned earlier not to have them.

Have they factored in WHAT cars are being insured? Surely the figure should be based on comparing like with like, e.g. the value of the car and how much it costs to repair it. Maybe more luxury/sports cars, or just more new cars generally (costing more than second ahand ones) are bought at this time of year when large savings are to be made as the year ticks over. Maybe its just supply and demand as they have a more captive audience of people buying new cars just before the date change

I bought my car as an effective pre-owned, but really a new car via a car supermarket (only 15 miles on the clock) back when there was over-supply in the European market and saved myself nearly 30% on the effective list price (the trim/spec level was in between two UK models), a saving of over £3k back in Dec 2005 (registered and insurance update in early Jan 2006 though when it was delivered).... I'm driving around this week in a hired Renault Megane. It's better than expected, but I don't know how they've managed to make the (very large) speed limit display on the dashboard so innaccurate.

So far, it has:... Read more

The Megane surpassed itself when I made the mistake of taking it on a 'Smart motorway last night.

It must be using the camera for at least some of the information as it attempted to repeat the speed limits on the overhead signs, at which it was truly woeful. As I went past a 40 limit, it proudly announced that the speed limit was now 90! Better still, it managed to find something on the sign showing a couple of lanes closed off for overnight works as a speed limit of 130mph!!...

Hi All

When my lad puts his lights on, the two gauge lights are flickering badly. Rest of dash lights seem ok. Can anyone advise please?

Thanks

Update on the original issue regarding the petrol and temperature lights not working. Flattened battery caused by interior light being left on over the weekend. Jump started it and the two lights are working now! Haven’t got a clue why or how!

Hi everybody, It's Josh again. I was wondering which tyres you think I should be choosing out of the following. I typed in my reg into the asda website and it's come up with these tyres. I was just wondering is there anywhere cheaper on-line Where I can purchase tyres? Thank you in advance.

Good point, and this seemingly happens more and more nowadays. As regards the tyres, sometime the big names do drop the ball, but often it seems to be that certain makes and models of car (even sometimes limited to ones with certain wheel and tyre size combos) seem to fair really badly with some tyres, when other do perfecetly fine.

This is very true, at one time i had a set of Pirelli 6000 on a very fast Merc E class estate, sensible OE size of 165/65 x 15 (such sizes unheard of now unless on a very basic small car), they stuck like the proverbial to a blanket in all weathers, yet i read numerous comments saying how poor these tyres were.

I've also found Michelins to be nothing much to write home about regarding wet grip, including the commercial lorry tyres which in days gone by could be terrifying in the wet, yet other people rated them highly, to be fair i haven't bought them for many years now so my opinion (on quite a few things it appears :-) is no doubt well out of time....
