Plodding Along

This is so true and especially of truck drivers on motorways. These idiots are some of the very worst drivers around. They sit inches behind the bumpers of cars in 50mph limit areas of the M6. Total amateurs who should be banned from driving forever. The problem is that with very few police patrols on our motorways these idiots are seldom caught for their dangerous driving habits. We need govt policy to get the majority of trucks off our roads and onto rails. Trucks should not be allowed to overtake either. That is what causes most accidents on the motorways. A truck takes so long to overtake another truck so all other traffic has to use the 3rd lane to get past creating dangerous bottlenecks and ultimately, accidents. Read more

Any LGV driver who tailgates another LGV at 6 feet is a total fool, if anything untoward occurs how is the follower going to know until it's too late and he is a one inch thick squashed up mess sandwiched between the back of the truck he's following and the load immediately behind him turning him/her into that mess.

As a LGV driver there is NO WAY I would do such a dumb stupid act, seen where an airline blew on a trailer causing the brakes to lock immediately, the following truck which was a way back hit it and went backwards into the path of another LGV which shunted it forward into the first truck again. Then two other trucks trying to avoid completely closed the road off. Luckily the driver of vehicle 2 was only trapped by the steering wheel pinning his left leg, his shouting and hollering were enough to convince me KEEP YOUR DISTANCE.

I wonder if this berk will try and park in that road again? They have a very distinct car that would be recognised even a few streets away.

I find that a home printed 'Police Aware' notice on the front windscreen quite often does the trick when someone parks where they shouldn't (e.g. in my allocated space).

Pretty sure the i40, certainly of that age, has a t/c auto. We had a 2014 i30 turbo diesel before the Jazz and it definitely had a t/c, which was one of the reasons I went for it.

Hi all

Having issues with my shogun, keeps dropping into limp mode and throwing up PO299 turbo underboost. Been to a diesel specialist who diagnosed a blocked map sensor pipe, rectified this and it ran ok for a couple of weeks. then started to limp againwith same code, recovery would turn of eml and it runs fine for a week or two then same. Its had some Forte turbo cleaner and some intake cleaner and yesterday a new map sensor but still same today, drove 5 miles and into limp mode again but this time the eml wont clear, still PO299.... Never worked on one of these but if it's anything like the L200 there a lot of vacuum control piping associated with turbo control.

So I'd be checking those,...

I am considering an engine decarbonsing service on my 1.9D (90,000 miles) for £75. This is supposedly hydrogen-based, "burning off 75% of the carbon deposits that prevent your engine running smoothly". I am getting 45mpg at present and there are no obvious problems. Does anyone think this is a good idea? Read more

Don't do it. It's expencive and doesen't prove to do anything.

There appears to be a school of thought that the powertrain of the ZS is being built "just good enough" low towing weight, low torque? remind anyone of Astra gearboxes? (GM bits)

Although I liked driving the car as a day to day thing on a test drive (or 3 )..... ok on all counts, but only that.... Read more

To clarify, is it the 1.0 engine which is the GM engine & gear box in the MG models?

Where is the old tech 1.5 petrol engine from?...

I play a browser based game every day, and I'm sick of having to enable Flash every time. In settings I can choose 'Block' or 'ask'.

I don't want to be asked, I just want it to be enabled! Is there any way round this?... Read more

Flash can be dangerous and I don't know of a browser that will run it without a warning. If you have antivirus software installed you might want to google "Browsers" and see if the lesser known ones will run Flash. I would not recommend Tor unless you really know what you are doing.

hi,
recently bought a used Peugeot through a dealer, it's Peugeot 308, 1.6l Petrol sports model 2010 registered.
however of late, i noticed that the fan is coming on all the time. Even in the cold morning days, fan continues to make noise until the engine is stopped at which point fan promptly stops.
Engine temperature never exceeds 90 though. CHecked the radiator fluid levels which are fine too.
Just this noisy fan is irritating.
Been to a local dealer who palmed me off £110 to replace a temperature sensor that did not help resolve the issue.

Then took it back to the garage who checked on the fuse box with a tester and it started to glow.....not sure whatever it means.
Also, the mechanic disconnected the connection between battery and fan and fan did not stop, mechanic thinks it should stop if it were a temp sensor error. Mechanic now says may be a corrupt ECU or fuse board or something.

bit of background.Initially after the car was bought few months ago it was working fine with no fan issue. But AC was not working so took it back to the dealer.
Dealer had said the compressor was gone so he replaced the compressor AND SINCE then the fan is coming on. Dealer also said relay to AC was not workign so he said he had also replaced fuse box as well that got the AC back up and running....but the fan issue not solved. by the time the warranty offered by dealer was over and he dusted his hands off.

really annoyed as recently found a job that requires driving 50 miles a day and really want to sort this out.
any help as to what may be causing this issue would help.
if anyone gone through similar issue, please respond what helped them to get round hte issue....really have a sick feeling after going around hte garages more than half a dozen times with no fix, effort, times and monies wasted. when checked for errors no error codes were reported on onboard computer too.
appreciate the help. Read more

Thank you all for your valuable inputs.

Took car to a local Peugeot specialists. Garage just called to tell me car is ready for collection. They say an alternator was replaced in the past with after market one which was not an exact fit... Alternator was causing the fan to come on....

Hi
Can I ask about my mini that broke down and was taken to the mini garage I have used to regularly service my car. It has 120000 on the clock and is 7 years old.

The garage told me they would charge £500 to take a look at the engine and confirm the cam shaft chain is broken but found parts of it in the engine. It is likely to cost me a new engine of £6000.
They advised I didn’t bother and I am now left without a car and had to buy another one not a mini I would add.

Is it worth making a complaint as I was not told the cam shaft was wearing or had a sensor to tell me as far as I know? The car simply slowed down and stopped.

Any advice grateful.

As above. There’s absolutely no comeback on a car of this age and mileage. I’m amazed it got to 120,000 miles to start with as Mini’s of this era (or any for that matter) have a poor reputation for longevity. Spend not one penny more on this.
