My daughter is 18 next month and passed her test a few months ago. We are considering buying her a car (to make our lives slightly easier) and with uni approaching next year. We have seen the Citreon and Peugeot scheme where they include 3 yrs servicng and most importantly insurance with a telematics box.I know you pay for it but with insurance pushing £2000 a year it seems a good deal. Has anyone got any experience of this scheme? Opinions? I know they are basically the same car but is there any difference between the citrien c1 and the Peugeot 108 ?? Ta.. Read more

“Buy a used version of C1, 107, Aygo for a couple of thousand (lots to choose from) and add your own telematics insurance. ”

Agree. This is a far better plan for a novice driver, especially one who’ll be parking at Uni or surrounding streets where dents and dings are likely. Any leased car will require expensive paint repairs before returning or you’ll face a large bill at the end of the contract. Instead spend £2,000-£3,000 on a good used example. They all use a very robust Daihatsu designed chain driven petrol motor that will run and run if looked after.

Hello,

I am currently undergoing my master's degree dissertation thesis. My topic is; Getting to 2040 smoothly, overcoming barriers of EV adoption a critique of the government role. The fundamentals for my thesis is grasping the barriers that are currently stopping the public from switching to electric vehicles. While also, assessing how organisations are accomplishing their competitive angle in a new shifting marketplace.

I have created a questionnaire to aid my research on my chosen topic. Any participation and feedback are greatly appreciated.

Honda FR-V 1.8iVTEC. We've had ours since 2011 - faultless.

Definitely stretch the budget for that engine though, not the earlier 1.7 or 2.0. You should be able to get a tidy one for £3K

I have a similar problem on a 2012 model. Its had clutch seals replaced initially which solved nothing, then identical parts replaced, obviously this didn't last long and then new parts which were apparently modified. All this within the 5yr warranty period. A fairly short time after the warranty ran out the same shudder has started. Ford dealer has confirmed its the same problem. Ford UK seem uninterested and take a view there is no warranty on warranty work which is appalling attitude to take. Currently dealer is trying to speak to Ford on my behalf to see if we can get a compromise arrangement. I doubt it will happen. Any idea what the cost would be to fix it?

A close friend recently took his car into a fast fit centre for 2 new tyres.( went to take him to collect)

was advised of leaking rear shock absorber, said to staff. it'll be covered by warranty.. (it was) staff at tyre centre said no it wouldn't was wear and tear. well said friend one has just been replaced and the other will be too. no it won't. said thank you, did not wait for tracking to be checked....... Hi all, most installers are quoting me round £1400 for the infra red steering aid by Lodgesons, 10 way/button .

Has anyone had this done for cheaper? I'm certain that the installer, once ordering the part, are making a decent mark up on this. It does seem a little OTT.... Read more

Sounds cheap to me. Low volume production ,hi-tech equipment is always expensive.Don't forget you are paying for the R&D as well as the equipment and installation. Perhaps you could fit it yourself? Get a workshop manual for a Prius, and see if you able to work out the circuits and the can /flex ray network to make all the required functions work.. Do you feel lucky?

Hi folks, new here.
Looking for a new (used)car
Only got limited money(max £600 but pushing it at that tbh)
Just had to get rid of polo (engine issues). Paid 700 for it when I passed my test 5 month ago. Just sold it for spares and repairs £300! So out of pocket.
So about me and my needs...I'm a mum so don't mind anything Mumsy.
Small and nippy as it is just literally for nipping kids about, shopping, school runs.
Occasional motorway use but mainly just round town, A and B roads.
Reliability is my main priority (ideally something that's going to last me longer than 5 month this time! Be even happier if it doesn't conk out on me this side of Christmas!
I know it's about the cars performance and reliability but don't want anything pre 2003-teenage daughter doesn't want to be rolling up at her mates in a matchbox on wheels! Kids eh?
So main questions;
Dealer or private?
Min MOT length?
Max mileage? (Recently been told high mileage doesn't necessarily mean that it's a nail as long as it's got good MOT history (absolutely love the MOT checker on the web)
Love fords as easy to get parts for but Father in law has had issues with every ford he's had (mainly focus and mondeo (coil packs, munching oil etc)
Love pugs too but would prefer diesel although diesels are like rocking horse crap to get hold of. Same with fiestas
Micra-heard Nissan are great makes BUT since Renault got involved, loads of issues with electrics? Told K11 best model but as I said, don't want a matchbox on wheels.
Not bothered about number of doors as coped perfectly well with 3 doors on polo.
Must be cheap on insurance (polo was group 4, paid 72 a month which as a new driver isn't bad)
I know used cars are always going to be a gamble and would rather stick to the makes I know (mentioned above) but don't want to end up with another problem.
Thanks in advance Read more
