You know when you want something, yet the established tell you that you don’t? OK, it’s not a problem having a minority viewpoint – over the past years I have stated a few times on this discussion forum that I want an opening sunroof on my next car … ideally factory built but if not then aftermarket will be the solution. Yes, I know that on days when the outside temperature is in the 80F’s (27C upwards) air conditioning is good, but recent weather has been a perfect example of when air con really is not needed, around 70F / 21C and sunny, it’s sunroof weather!... I recently paid for street car parking. They had the option to pay by smartphone. I decided to have a go.
I arrived at 6pm, but it was going to be free parking after 6.30pm. So I only needed to pay for 30minites, except their minimum charge was for one hour, so I had to pay £2. Plus they added on a 15p a service cahrge, which I presume is for the mobile operator. ... Read more
I’ve been really impressed when using the app to pay for parking. I don’t need to worry about having change. The app will tell you how much time you have left and let you pay for more time if you need it. Plus, if you leave before your paid for time expires it will refund you- albeit in hourly increments.
On the subject of car parks, there is a privately owned car park adjacent to a local church (not mine) where it is well known (and related to me by their vicar) that a ticket inspector only visits every other Friday, so that is the only time people pay for parking. Even a visiting Bishop didn’t buy a ticket!
Hi,
My 10yr old Vectra has been showing a warning light on the dashboard, It is the engine electronic one. The handbook says that turning the engine on and off can sometimes fix it.... Read more
You are probably going to need a pair of cam variator sprockets and a cambelt kit and waterpump.Parts alone are around £300 Possibly not worth doing. Also, make sure the correct grade engine oil has been filled,as the system works on oil pressure.
Am looking to buy a Fiesta for about £700. One I'm interested in has the following MOT advisory:
"Central Rear engine stablizer mount bush cracking"
I know little about cars so would be most grateful if someone in the know could explain what that advisory means, whether it 'matters' etc. Thanks! Read more
Well the engine/gearbox is held in place at three points,
simply left right and under there's the rear mount that goes from engine to the subframe....
I despair HJ Agony column today advising a OAP to get his 5yr old car oil changed every year. The oil is probably as clean as the day it went in there with this sort of use. The car obviously needs an annual MOT so feel sure that this would cover any safety contingencies for him. I do not think that a a lot of thought goes into some of the advice he gives . Read more
I completely agree, GB: long may the forum continue as the civilised place that the great majority of us appreciate and uphold. Inevitably people will disagree; but just because you disagree with someone doesn't mean that they are an idiot, or stupid, or any other similar expression of personal insult.
In future I will simply delete any post which insults anyone personally....
I took my car into one those automated car washed (well known company). I have ended with multiple chips on my windscreen. It seens their roller brush had grit on. It was on the side of the windscreen. I left the car wash, did not noticed too much and it seemed like water drops from the car wash. Their car wash never dries fully. I have about 15 of these white colour ant-sized chips on the windscreen.
Is this repairable? I looked at Auto-glass, but they only do insurance work. ... Read more
Paint is much softer than glass thus if there are no scratches on the paint its not the car wash. The brushes/grit will scrach everything, they don't just scratch screens.
It is very localised. Just the top left hand side of windscreen and a little on the front left windscreen. They have a number of roller brushes. So what every caused it, was very localised....
