Automatic box, one of the driveshaft seals has most then likely gone, haven't had a good look just yet but getting ready too when it occurred to me, if I'm doing one what's the possibility the second will go?

I suffer from multiple chemical sensitivity. This means that I experience various unpleasant symptoms in response to toxins that are in the air, while just about everyone else remains completely unaffected!
This condition particulary rears its head in cars. A fair proportion of (but certainly not all) cars make me feel very ill indeed. It's usually the older ('oily') cars that are the problem but there have been exceptions.
The infuriating thing is that symptoms occur after an accumulation of time spent in the vehicle, so a 15 minute test drive will not tell me if the car is any good for me. All this makes buying a cheap, used car extremely problematic!... Read more
A full size allotment-stylee watering can is probably a better option than a bucket, because you get some control (avoiding electrics) and a bit more velocity.
I THINK coin-operated pressure washers may be available in the Yook (locals confirm?) though I dunno if they do hot water....
Since you are obviously completely honest, I will send you a large sum of money for some fake money. I just know you would never send dodgy notes, given your highly respected profession. Read more
Oh that's too complicated. Send me a Billion pounds and simply keep 10% back to pay yourself for them. Then I can send them to various deserving ex Royals and Presidents from Lagos to pay the wealth taxes etc. So I can collect the Billions already in my name from legacies, lottery wins and various unclaimed riches.
The other day I noticed a car joining from a slip-road whose rear plate unmistakably read SH11TTY. I momentarily thought 'that Scotsman doesn't love his car'. Might be accepted by the cameras, but I was not surprised to find that it has no MoT record. What - if anything - does 'the system' do when such cars are detected? There is no DVLA record, so no address to send anything or anyone to? Read more
Good driving means observing what's going on around you and driving accordingly.
And doing so within the confines of the law.
An update..
No regrets with this car, no problems either.... Read more
Cannot see why it should not continue to work perfectly for many years.
Our Ceed SW 1.6 CRDi did approx 50,000 miles in just under 5 years with no issues other than a holed A/C condensor after 4 years, could happen to any car. But the difference was the dealer replaced it under warranty with no discussion whatsoever. Only moved it on because the wife had retired and at the same time we had inherited dads Micra when he stopped driving. The Micra suited the wifes mostly urban use much better so it was a relatively simple decision since we had the Leon for holidays and other times when we needed a bigger car....
Which in effect bans any type of photography, which in turn bans smart phones because every smart phone has the ability to install a dash cam app. Do you get the feeling Big Brother likes to monitor you but does not like to be monitored in case you catch them doing what they should not or not doing what they should. Sounds very sinister to me, Read more
We should ban them in the UK.
I agree with you 100%.

A partially seized strut top bearing could cause the problem.
Anyone know the list of smal fiesta sized and focus sized cars which can be bought with conventional auto gearboxes, ie not DSG, MMT, CSV etc. Current new models.

Mazda 2/3 would be my top pick here. These use a lightweight torque converter set up combined with a conventional normally aspirated petrol motor, neither of which is likely to cause any grief.
There’s also nothing to fear from Toyota’s CVT transmission as used in the Yaris and Auris. Plus the Hyundai i20 used a robust conventional torque converter system until mid 2018 when a new automated manual box was introduced.
Honda seem to have managed to get their current CVT boxes right too with both the Jazz and Civic so equipped. The last of the previous gen Civic makes an excellent used auto in 1.8 petrol form with again a conventional torque converter and a reputation for being bulletproof.
Vauxhall tend to stick with torque converter boxes with the Astra and Corsa offering good value used. Stick with the petrol motors and they should be fine though the 1.0 turbo is a bit of an unknown as yet. Just don’t expect it to be worth anything when you come to sell.
I am hoping someone on here can answer a question of mine.

It would be nice if all manufacturers could agree on how they should work.
We had a Scenic with EPB and it worked such that when you engaged the clutch it would release, allowing you to pull away and make hill starts. When you came to a halt and switched off the engine it appled the brake. It also had a manual control to pull it on....
