What's your thoughts on car checking services? There are a few to choose from like hpi check and RAC.
Which do you go for?... Read more
Hi all, not been here for a while looking for help / advice please.
My daughters Nissan Micra K11 16v started to run really poorly at low revs and stalling at junctions etc.... Read more
Really? if thats a fact I will talk to Dave about it again.
If I had the tme I would be doing much more basic tests like plugs, coils, compression. I can spanner at basic level... Although its an old car its only done approx 60k, if anyhting I would think compression would be high the way she drives it with and ensuing carbon build up :-)...
Cycling home last night through central and suburban London I noted how many people were making u turns even on quite busy streets and often blocking the traffic while they do so (eg sitting in their lane at an angle waiting for the opposing carriage way to clear lights) . If I need to go back on myself I usually find a side road entrance to reverse around a corner into (as per the driving test) in or find a back road route to get me back where I am (ie a round about route). I just think trying to do a three point turn in busy traffic is frankly asking for trouble - eg other traffic not realising what you’re doing or cyclists nipping along behind you or in front as you’re looking the other way.
Are people just trying to save fuel or do they think it’s better than using a normal junction or side road? I just think it’s too risky. What do you do? Read more
if going clockwise round our local ring road, in order to get to the Police station Police vehicles do a U turn at a set of lights about 80 yards past it.
The alternative would be a 'round the block' of over a mile and 2 sets of lights....
Clutch Pedal goes to floor and difficul/impossible to change gear. Am told that Master Cylinder needs replacing. Maybe Slave as well. They are fixed sealed units

Not really had anything to do with them I'm afraid, check yours against the photo's on ebay and see if it looks the same, if it does the chances are it will do the job.
Sigh. The turbo died on my car this week. Has anyone else experienced this with this car. I have been quoted £1.500 to fix it and even then it seems that this is a weak point in this type of car so...probably trading it in as it is.
I did have a 'system injecton problem' orange warning ligjhy, intermmitent and whenn i went to check that i had glow sticks (?) fitted and no mention of anything to do with turbo. On its last trup out a 2 hour drive the loud whirring sound started. Next day when i went to switch it on i only got 5 mins out of the house and the 'Stop Now' red lights and sounds came out so i abandoned ship. ... Read more
Intermitent injection problme might be due to an injector the was not working properly. les fuel in a gasoline engine will cause iti to go lean, meaning a hot mix of fuel/air. Going lean on just one cylinder migh mean you have to check piston as it might of have sufferd damage.
Turbo could of faild of wear, something hiting it on the way to the engine(not likely) or on the way out- like melted aluminium from piston, or it just faild form the overheated gases. From what I know, gasoline engines have a liquid cooled turbos, something i haven't seen on diesel engines.
Not fixing injection problem will mean that your new turbo won't last.
Hello everyone.
I have some important queries answered regarding a car I am looking to buy. I currently own a 9N3 Polo E and I'm looking to upgrade to a MK6 SE 1.4 TSI 122.
So the car in question is a 2009 MK6 Golf 86K in Huddersfield for just over £4.5k - Full service history and receipts but no MOT as of yet
Sounds good? But there is a catch! The car has had a new clutch (@85K) and timing chain (@84K) I understand the TSI's have dodgy timing chains but this has had the work fully and professionally done. Along with the clutch at the same mechanic who is a few doors down from the dealer who's selling the motor.
As you can tell I don't know much about this, but what is the general consensus here? Am I getting a well sorted car or one that someone is itching to get rid of because its been unloved. Would that affect me or can these Golfs keep going after a rebuild?
Plus replaced timing chain = Rebuilt Engine. So would this affect fuel economy? How can I tell if the rebuild has been done proper?
Look forward to hearing the replies - Cheers. Read more
Also with this money - don't buy a diesel. It'd be at the age when someone is dumping a problem , eg DPF, turbo etc.....
Ive been told to spray lithium into my screeching clutch on my fiat pun to but can't find where? Read more
Guessing you mean something like :- www.screwfix.com/p/wd-40-specialist-white-lithium-...3
Probably it's the release bearing that is failing and it'd be hard to target this with any spray and the bearing is probably totally goosed anyway so it won't fix the isse and will probably spray on other clutch friction components causing clutch slip or other problems....
This afternoon I was taking in the scenery in a 3mph crawl down the M6 towards an incident near the Thelwall viaduct, about half a mile short of my exit. Several cars behind decided to use the shoulder to get to that exit a bit sooner, so I tagged along, to help reduce the tailback. A bright red Audi (note that) decided that they and I were being naughty, so he pulled 'in' just ahead of me and continued at 3mph blocking any passage, so I gave him 2 fingers getting one in return. This continued to the start of the slip road, when he graciously allowed anyone else to follow him.
I can't see how that self-righteous behaviour benefited anyone at all - including himself, as we all took longer to get home. Why do so many German cars seem to give their drivers such an exaggerated sense of undeserved superiority and entitlement? And what would he have done if an emergency vehicle had wished to pass (one police car already had) ? Read more

Anyone have any idea as to how this expression came about ? 'Empty' or 'low' is understandable but why 'flat' ?
Google is not very forthcoming on this query but suggests that Americans would not use this expression. I assume they might say 'out of gas' ?... Read more

The FordEtis site can tell you if the car has a DPF or not:
HPI is good, but be careful if you pre buy several checks, useful if you are looking seriously at a choice of vehicles.
I did that, batch of 3 if i recall, and for some reason the system told me i had used all my pre paid checks after 2....
