I disagree that "This inquiry will be welcomed by drivers who have to endure the dire state of our local roads on a daily basis.". I think most motorists will see the inquiry as a waste of time and money and would prefer local councils and the government to use a bit of common sense and get on with fixing them. Read more

It's not cyclists who wear the road surface out: it's heavy motor vehicles, especially juggernauts. Moreover cyclists do pay for road maintenance through their Council Tax. As for what passes as cycle lanes, you wouldn't see Laury Kenny training on them!

As a motorist and cyclist too, I never feel endangered by a careless cyclist, but I do feel endangered by inconsiderate motorists.

Good advice, but unfortunately the position of the brake pedal on many automatics is clearly designed for right foot operation. Perhaps the manufacturers are missing a trick here. Read more

I have driven autos and manuals over 30 years and never left foot braked - and never had a problem of unexplained acceleration. I am now an old fluffer/duffer and have been for nearly a decade and still never had that problem.

I have never met anyone who had it.. Except my uncle who had Parkinsons and crashed his Daimler 2.5 saloon (Mk2 Jag with Daimler engine) through his garage walls into the garden through accelerating rather than braking.

He at least had all his marbles and knew what he had done wrong...rather than claim an engine fault...

Ive run a diesel for 217,000 miles over 13 years on 'supermarket' diesel. Never had a problem with the car. My wife drove a petrol Zafira for over 80,000 miles on 'supermarket' unleaded for over 10 years doing mainly school and stop start runs. Never had a problem with the car. This nonesense about cheap 'supermarket' fuel is just that, nonesense.

Interesting that an increasing number of hauliers have abandoned their fuel cards in favour of filling up at larger supermarkets forecourts (where height and maximum spend allows!) as the ex-vat price from the Supermarket is often cheaper than the price that they can negotiate from the fuel card 'names'. People worry over filling up their £20k family cars with supermarket fuels, yet there are HGV's costing upto ten times the price of the average car, powered by far more powerful and complicated diesel engines and complex heavily regulated emissions systems which are running happily on the same fuels daily! - vehicles which mileage wise, probably cover far more in a month, than a typical car covers in a year.

I can't imagine how supermarket fuels can cause any issues, when you consider that a 44-tonne HGV off the road is immediately noticeable to a haulage firm and downtime and fines for late delivered goods costs them money in addition to the cost of any call out and repair to the truck or an increased level of maintenance due to using a cheaper fuel. My own opinion is that if using Supermarket fuels was detrimental in any way, then the risk of a higher than average breakdown rate would have already have been flagged by those haulage firms running their fleets of HGV's on it, to the point where using supermarket fuels would now be a 'no-no' on industry Forums like Trucknet, rather than something which is actively encouraged in relation to saving thousands off their annual fuel bills!.

My Ford Focus has done 81,000 miles and is still driving well but it is 15 years old so I am thinking about what car I would like if things go wrong with my current Focus.

I did like the idea of the Ford Focus 1.0 Eco Boost but have read a few horror stories about the engines giving up and Ford not taking responsibility for it. I beleive it was mainly the 2013 model that is affected with this problem. did they sort it out on the 2014, 2015 models?... Read more

badbusdriver, yes I am traditional so carry a 2m triple ladder and extendable step ladders on the roof. A small set of steps behind the front seats.

I clean Conservatory roofs and Fascias too so carry an 18 foot extendabe pole inside the car....

Previous owner allowed car to sit out in the sun for too long. Now the roof and tailgate are quite discoloured, with parts of the original red paint turning pink, or white in a couple of areas. Paint is also quite scabby in parts. Been told that Maguires Ultimate Compound and an electric polisher will do the trick, but do I need to sand down the scabby paint first? Thanks Read more

catsdad

With any work on degraded paint you risk making the situation worse. If you want to tackle it, its best to start with less aggressive polishes and rubbing compounds. Only sand it if you know what you are doing.

If its an Escort it could be worth anything between buttons and a lot of money if its a desireble model. If its the former then by all means have a go. If its the latter then only trust it to a professional.

Can someone explain why the Quattro transmission allows the brakes to be tested on a brake tester, when other 4WDs have to be tested with a declerometer, (Tapley meter)? Read more

You really need to remove the original unit to confirm the type fitted. Be careful here,as some of these clio models had a combination coolant and ac rad fitted that are not separable.

Well, I own one with 1.6 petrol engine, which is great reliability and efficiency wide. I know that many owners bought this particular one for above reasons, as oppose to 1.4 booster jet.
I think this may turn up to be a shoot in own knee for Suzuki. Read more

I have the same 1.6 petrol engine in my earlier SX, it has lack lustre performance particularly pulling from low revs and this has been carried over to the Vitara, I've driven the 1.4 and found it much more flexible and been waiting to see if it would be introduced across more of the range.

Only 6000 responses from across the country. Just shows that these Public consultations ( whatever the subject) are kept hidden from the general public.
There should be a minimum amount of responses and if not they should announce them on the news. A lot of laws and other bits and pieces are getting past by using under the radar tactics. Just as an example, how many people knew about these changes to the law regarding the Blue Badge system. I am not against the Blue Badge system, only the way it is being abused. My mother had the use of one great idea until you see abled bodied people misusing them and genuine people having to park miles away. Read more

I am so touched by this topic that I decided to look for more information on this topic. I want to share it with you and continue the dialogue with people who are considering my views. I used to not understand it like others too, but then I changed my views because I met a friend with disabilities. I recommend everyone to have a peek at this website so that you have a better understanding of what life with disabilities is and I really hope that your opinion will change. I used to use this resource for easier learning, but I saw that there is such a section and wanted to share it with you.
