close shave bit of panic thismorning.

Opened the DVLA letter to discover SWMBO road tax ran out end of Jan, we must have missed the reminder somehow, luckily the letter was a last chance and its now retaxed, only glad she didn't get pulled or that the DVLA didn't auto generate a fine.... Read more

There's no charge for putting it on annual DD.

Yes there is. Mine is due at the end of the month. £30 or £2.63 a month (£31.50???). I make that an interest rate of about 5%....

We have a hydraulic work bench which constantly fails.
The activator system which pumps up the bench seizes air leaks fluid and has been returned to the manufacturer by the local factor three times.

Tried the importers technical department and they were not forthcoming about warranty period or even the length of time they need to keep parts under EC law.

They claim 12 months and that's them covered and we have exceeded this by 12 months. And they say the contract is with the factor.

It's such a big heavy bench which is useless without the activator mechanism . But does anyone know my rights please ? Read more

Assuming this is a consumer purchase your contract is with the vendor, not with the manufacturer or anyone else. The manufacturer or importer might be willing to help but they have no contractual relationship with you.

If it's business to business then you have less protection and it depends on the terms and conditions of the contract of sale.

My Alfa started giving my a code warrning fault, I knew from previous experience the battery was failing, so ordered a new one. It is now on its third battery, the last one only lasted three years, but while the right battery for the car according to the listings, it was a lot smaller then the one itr replaced.

So when the (larger) battery arrived I ran a check on the battery and the meter tells me the battery and charging system working with no faults, Charged the battery and it charged fine, but the fault code on the car stopped,... Read more

Not wishing to gloat but my vauxhall astra has a battery which is now 10 years old and working fine even in this cold weather. A battery should have about 14V across it even with all the lights and heated windows etc on-make sure revs are at least 1000rpm when measuring because at idle it will drop a bit. Some modern cars e.g. Hoda have a two stage charging system to save fuel and voltages of about 12.5 to 13V may be expected. Curiously this rises to 14V when all the lights are switched on so some sort of intelligent charge/load system is in action here.

If the voltage is over 15V (check at high revs) it will fry your battery and you will have been changing a lot of headlamp bulbs!...

How can a person who is too young to drive be banned? It is often said the law is an ass and this case it's 100% correct. Any bans on under age drivers should run automatically from the day they are convicted until they are 17 and then run forward for the same period of time from their birthday until the ban ends.
However I do recognise that the sort of people we are talking about just ignore the law and have no respect for it anyway. Read more

ANYONE who cannot comply with the law of the roads must be dealt with HARSHLY as possible!! I literally don't eat so I can afford to insure and tax my lil old car. Teenage drivers must be deterred from abusing the privilege of driving!!

OK this is a new car, a Seat Leon ST with a 1.6 diesel engine. I have noticed sometimes when i park the car up the fan is on full blast. This seems a bit odd to me as it is winter and the temperatures have been near zero. It has also happened after relatively short journeys as well as after long motorway journeys. Why is this happening? It doesnt always happen, only sometimes. Read more

It means the regen is probably still active when you turn off the engine. On some brands (not sure about Seat) there is a maximum number of times you can do this before the dash light comes on and a garage visit needed and its not a warranty fix.

On our Kia when a regen was close (originally every 300 miles then 250 after a software update) we would check before turning off the engine that the tell tale signs of a regen were not present, if they were we would drive on until we were satisfied it was complete.

I submitted a review for the Seat Leon ST about 3 weeks ago and it hasnt appeared yet. Is that normal or has it been rejected? Read more

Phoned them direct and asked them to delete all information held on me and would never use their website or services again.

Have done the same with other suppliers for other goods too, after poor service....

Hi all

Wondering if can help me with this problemo - I start work on March 1st and need a motor to get to work as it's rural. Salary is ok and I am up for doing monthly payments. Could shell out up to £1000 for a deposit. But aware without a solid history for example at least 3 months payslips, I won't get a car loan or finance?... Read more

I have read of some autos, esp i x20 and Venga having 'flat spots'. What does this mean? Is it significant ?

Thanks for advice. Read more

Thanks for the helpful posts. I drove a 4 gear auto in the original A class. I liked it. As with many things, the variety on offer now confuses me. I like things simple.

The ix20 and Venga both appeal - just about right size and higher seating position. Would prefer auto but wonder if manual better, safer for driving. Not unduly concerned about m.p.g....
