I’ve just purchased a used Audi Q5 from a car supermarket. In the Auto Trader advert it stated that it had Bluetooth interface, DAB and Bang & Olufsen speakers - none of which it has. In contacting the salesman he said he has forwarded it on to their customer services department. I’ve chased 3 times now and had no contact by the customer services rep. Where do I stand with my rights?? Read more

Were this in the UK i'd be looking for a Haynes workshop manual for the Vectra B.

For model specific stuff like this, try posting on a Vauxhall group such as these chaps here. ...

Hi, The silencer has come off my Zafira, the pipe has split away at the join to the box, so as it looks I should only need to replace the Silencer unit, good news, nice and cheap(ish).

My concern is the sensor within the central part of the exhaust system that houses the DPF etc and whether any will be effected, causing the centre section to need to be changed as well. Making the job then much more expensive.....!... Read more

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone can help, My Ford Focus Ecoboost 1.3 63 Plate is in the garage and I have been advised that it would probably be easier to get a new or good quality second hand engine, The annoying thing is that this has happened 12 days out of warranty and only a couple of months before it is due to go back to Motorpoint, so at the moment we are paying £250 a month for it to be stuck in the garage as we figure out the best way to go about things as obviously this kind of fault does not come cheap, also any help with regards to where to look for a second hand engine etc are much appreciated, Thank you Read more

This is surprisingly common and there are 100's of people who have had engines replace for free, even out of warranty. There is a list of registration plates of poeple that have experienced engine failures.

For info on how to get Ford to replace the engine for free see the open Facebook group...

I'm in the market for a new car and being patriotic would like to buy a car that is as British as it can be given ownership and where components are sourced from.

Am interested in any one of the above cars but can anyone tell me which contains a British built engine and if steel from UK steel mills is used in the production of body panels etc. in any/all of these vehicles?... Read more

"BMW make engines in Birmingham"

Not "make" - assembled from parts made elsewhere - which is the story of the British car industry. Also a big problem post-Brexit because of the trade agreement rules regarding the percentage of country of origin for parts

So my son's 2001 MR2 failed it's MOT on emissions, steering rack, front suspension and tyres apparently fitted the wrong way round. He spent out on getting all that done but couldn't do it in the 14 day retest period due to having to get the money to fix it. So it was 19 days before I took it back to the same garage for him. They took the failure printout and my £35 and I waited whilst they did another full MOT. This time it failed on a brake caliper.
I want to know if this can be correct? Should they only have retested the failure items? Can a caliper even go from pass to fail in 19 days? Also the advisories on both failure printouts are different! Just wanted your thoughts on these situations please because if it's dodgy we will complain/follow it up.
Thanks in anticipation Read more

I'd put this in the same category as the old hotel trick of leaving something minor but blatant enough for the inspector to find, after which they feel they've done their job and gloss over the rest of the inspection. Same goes for your sons Toyota, it's likely that amongst the quagmire of bigger faults, they overlooked some of the more minor issues. That's assuming they are honest!! If in doubt about the latter, try a different MOT centre, gotta be worth it for £35

The BBC sometimes changes programme schedules at short notice, for example, to show a football match scheduled for Wednesday on Tuesday instead, as they did a few days ago.

I personally wouldn't have watched the scheduled BBC1 programmes anyway, but SWMBO was very annoyed when she switched on and saw "B*****" football" instead of the expected programme.... Read more

Also the big coverage of the (very likely) false allegations by (IMO) known fantasists against VIPs who just happen to lean on the right of centre politically, such as Ted Heath, Harvey Proctor, that former Army chief (whose name escapes me), Cliff Richard (they were 'on the spot when his home was 'raided' as they seemed, in my view, in cahoots with the Police [who IMO seemed very eager to help]), and yet there's very little, if any, coverage of the Current allegations against Corbyn and his 'contacts' with Soviet spies (never mind all his others with terrorist groups, not just in the distant past), which isn't just trivial, given he could be (God help us) PM.

The allegations against Heath were such that, were he still alive, the police would have wanted to interview him. Anyone with an iota of knowledge of Heath's view of Proctor and vice versa would know they were not not going to be kiddy fiddling in same space and time. That does not preclude possibility of prima facie believable allegations aginst either or both....

I ordered a factory order Skoda Octavia from Sparshatts Botley on 9 February 2018 after researching offers on CarWow. I paid a £1,000 deposit. I also queried a cashback amount to which I received a vague answer from the salesman who clearly did not really know what it was. Reviewing the paperwork on arriving home I noticed that the figures did not add up and rang the dealership the following day for an explanation. The manager explained it was to do with the maximum deposit allowed on a PCP and that I had exceeded the amount with the trade in value of my old car therefore the excess would be refunded to me as a "cashback". I also had some questions about the PCP which I was committed to but had not received any paperwork on. I was then asked to leave a review on CarWow which I did as follows:

"Think I drew the short straw of a new salesman - who whilst very friendly was not completely knowledgeable and did not explain all aspects of the final costing properly resulting on additional phone calls. Whole process of ordering a new car took far too long and it would be easy for the dealership to cut this time down significantly by asking the customer to complete forms whilst the salesman is ferrying backwards and forwards to the site manager for agreement on trade in values etc. We were there for more than 2.5 hours. It will be interesting to see how long the factory ordered car takes to arrive and whether the eventual information verbally supplied re the PCP contract is accurate or not. I think they should give a draft copy of the terms and conditions of the PCP contract prior to signing the order for the car in order for the customer to know exactly what they are signing up to." I gave 5 stars for Friendliness and 3 stars for Communication, Knowledge and Ordering Process.... Read more

On the subject of "satisfaction questionaires" I once gave bad feedback to a company who are probably one of the biggest providers of automation equipment in Europe.

They had changed (updated) the internal firmware on a small controller I use regularly. The update made a software program (I had developed about four years ago) stop working! As my systems/software are "validated" for the particular industry in which I work, this was not a small problem for me....
