The writing seems to be on the wall. This decision only affects older diesel cars but it will undoubtedly have a knock-on effect on the new/second hand diesel car market in Germany, throughout Europe and further afield.
I predict a shocking dystopian scenario of millions of older diesel cars being shipped off to other continents while Europe surely but certainly moves back to petrol and gradually switches over to hybrid/electric/hydrogen cell over the next 20/30/... years.
Just as smoking has been all but banned in the west, and tobacco manufacturers have shifted their products and hte associated marketing budgets to "developing" markets, the clouds of filthy smoke will soon be departing Europe and heading to more "welcoming" climes. Read more
Hi, every body,
I've got a Golf mk4 1.9tdi 2003 and I have problems with the central locking.
Practically the doors do not open with the remote control. I need to open the driver's door and insert the key in the edge in a few seconds, otherwise the alarm will sound.
The closing of the doors can be done with the remote control of the key.
Has anyone encountered this problem?
Do you know how it can be solved?
Thanks a lot! Read more
Looks like you may have a problem with the remote fob.The remote is needed to turn off the alarm.Do all the doors lock/unlock ok from the switch on the drivers door switch panel?
I think that the new MOT rules are a mixed bag - good that many dirty diesels will now be caught, but bad that the ambiguous nature of the 'MOT fail' criteria seems, to me at least, to be a 'green light' to less scrupulous MOT stations (especially those where there's a repair shop/dealership attached) to either fail more to get extra repair work (especially where its deemed 'dangerous' so you can't drive it to another garage) or be vulnerable to bribery to reduce items to non-failure ones (or suchlike).
I preferred the strict pass/fail way - it gives everyone a clear demarcation and can be better understood when disputes arise - now its all about the tester's jusgment, rather like judges at a sporting event where interpretation means a great deal. Read more
Do all of these new emission rules apply to older diesel cars? There is so much focus on DPF cars. Will older non-DPF fitted cars be penalised further? I am after some clarity as I was looking change vehicle soon but this has altered my view somewhat.
Good evening!
I have a question on the credit repair agreement with incident management companies. My case ( not my fault ) was passed by my insurance to one of these companies and I didn’t realise how much hassle it would be!
I insisted on my preferred garage for repairs and passed their details to the company and the company’s details to the garage. The garage assured me they usually deal with insurances direct and everything would be sorted.
It took a while for them to agree on each other’s terms but I finally got a call from the garage that all was sorted and they were ready to book my car in for repair. I did so, got the hire vehicle and 4 days later picked up my car from the garage. When I asked if I needed to sign anything they said not to worry and they would pass all the documents to the incident management people themselves.
2 weeks later I received a call from the garage saying that they still had issues with the company and they needed me to sign a document. When I received it I realised it was the last page of a credit service agreement. I asked to send the whole agreement and it turned out to be this classic car service credit agreement where I would be liable for all costs if they are not recovered from the 3D party insurer.
What is more, the garage has asked me to backdate it when I sign it to show a date 3 weeks prior.. They have admitted they should have asked me to do it before they vehicle went in for repair but the person had “missed” it.
I am not sure what to do now. I would have never signed it if I had seen it first. I called my insurance who said that I needed to sign the agreement and it is the garages fault not to enforce it and go ahead with repair.
I really didn’t like how the garage tried to fool me into signing it without sending the whole document and putting an earlier date. But I also think it shouldn’t be their job to do so.
But if I don’t sign it and the repair has already happened does it mean the garage has the right just to charge me for the repair?
Should I try to pass it back to the insuranace as no one has informed me about any credit agreements I would have to enter if I want to go ahead with my preferred garage.
Any thoughts/ advice would be greatly appreciated!

They might as well just ask you to send them your cheque book! They've repaired a vehicle, attempted to recover the bill from an insurer in the usual way, are having difficulties doing so and now wish to chase you for the money instead. Only, somebody forgot to ask you to sign the paperwork to agree to be liable for it, and unless you sign it now, they've got a bit of a problem.
Simply tell them you decline the terms of the contract and don't wish to sign it, and equally would not have done so had the document been presented to you in the correct way at the appropriate time. It's your right to refuse it, it's their problem if they did the work without it. However, I presume they could ultimately persue you for payment via the courts if need be, though your insurance company should have it sorted way before then. It's likely the garage simply got bored waiting for a typically lethargic and lazy insurer, and thought it easier to come after you for their money instead. I would suggest you chase your insurer and tell them to get their backside in gear and have the garage paid. Given their rather unpleasant sneakery, I'd also suggest shifting your garage custom elsewhere for the next time!

Thats the one Andy, thanks.
I've been doing that for the past month or so, mainly because the Telegraph (amazingly) has been running so many 'virtue signalling' articles recently. It seems modern life is mainly shaking one's head or face-palming, in-between reading and seeing stuff like this.

My friends have recently bought an Audi Sportback S3 with 19" wheels. They say it is extremely quiet. So try before you buy.
