My daughter has recently acquired a 2007 Suzuki SX4 1.6 petrol with 140,000 miles. The eml light has come on and plugging in an OBD reader has returned a P0420 error "catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1". Monitoring the O2 sensors output in TorquePro shows a waveform for sensor 1 and a 'flat line' response for sensor 2. Given that the car passed an MOT very recently and presumably passed the emissions test is it resonable to assume that the 02 sensor has failed.
As its within the 30 day warranty, the dealer is offering to replace the O2 sensor but my concern is whether the Catalytic Convertor may be faulty.... Read more
Does the Renault Trafic 1.9 dci registered December 2011 have a timing belt or chain? A mechanic has told me timing chain and it needs changing but as I’m clueless I don’t want to get ripped off.

Sorry for being stupid but I bought the van second hand with partial service history so have no idea if these have been previously changed. Thanks for any help you can provide. Read more
These vans are much better than the 15 plate onwards, I have a 17 plate (less than a year old) that needs a service a 7000 miles, should be w years or 25000 miles.
This van stalls also and Renault says its the way I drive it! Only had at vans and about 20 cars over the last 30 years.
We have our car through Motability and have booked a holiday to France even got our European breakdown cover through the RAC at no extra charge, all good so far. However having read the book the RAC sends through it says that if you have a puncture and there is space for a spare wheel and no spare wheel present then they will not assist.
So we are having to look for a spare wheel, there are a couple on Ebay, one the saver wheel with tool kit at £130 and a full size wheel with tool kit at £140.... Read more
The proper kit comes with a thicker floor insert to level of the floor by a couple of inches so its flat when the space saver is in place. Nice car the latest version of the 3, mine was the higher power petrol Sportnav, it was one of my all time favourites and one I've come to regret selling. I would definitely have another.
I wasn't keen on the SportNav, whether in 'standard' 2 litre 120hp form or with the uprated 165hp version, mainly because both run on 18in rims and I felt the ride was too firm, and the 165 doesn't have any more torque, so presumably it has to be ragged even more to get that extra performance....
Hi folks ive noticed when driving my 1.4 tdci fiesta there is like a juddder or misfire to say.
Ive been told that injector seals are a common problem in these engines. I was wondering would anyone have any clue before i go spending money in the mechanics. The judder isnt very strong but noticable. Its also an irregular thing, it may happen now and it might not happen for another 1 or 2 hours of driving, ive just been on a 2.5 hour journey and it happen twice on acceleration.... Read more
I've had it on my 1.4Tdci, and it's always down to injectors and the associated pipework. Luckily, I've never heard of anyone having trouble getting the injectors out of this engine (where as Mercedes vans are often written off because the injectors won't come out). I've had new seats and seals and pipes three times on my 2006 Fiesta, in its 217,500 miles that it's done.
Hi
I have been informed by DVSA that Hyundai have recognised a problem following a number of complaints of locking/sticking rear brakes.
Hyundai have developed a new compound for the brake pads and these are now ready for supply into service.
If you have had a problem with your rear brakes notify your dealer and ask for the new compound pads to be fitted on the warranty.
I have had new pads, discs and calipers replaced on the warranty at year 3. Normally brakes are only covered up to 2 years or 20,000 miles.
Don't take no for an answer. The old pads ruin the discs, the discs heat up and affect the calipers, accept no less than compete renewal.
If you have already paid for new rear brakes, get your money back and replacement.
If you have any trouble with your dealer contact Shanice Mitchell at Executive.team@hyundai.co.uk Read more
best, leave the rear brakes to main dealer. if ever you take them apart ,try and get them back in , so theres some movement. and well lubricated. the calipers shouldn't need leavering off
Hi, I am on second lease of above car from Wessex in Bristol. Clutch juddering at 32k/18 month old and dealer says I have to pay for investigation (£550) and from there if manufacturer error they will pay, if not I pay for new clutch (£850). Will it be clear that it is either manufacturer error or me? I am business high mileage driver and know I have not slipped clutch,/driven with foot on clutch, which they are suggesting could be cause. Value your help.. thanks. Read more
Just another thought, could be oil contamination on the clutch plate. If so this should be covered under warranty.
Just ordered one of these to replace the Qashqai. Anyone own one? Happy with it? Read more

Peugeot 207S 2008 water in ECU problem
You 15 minutes ago
I have a Peugeot 207 1.4S 2008 with water getting into the ECU causing the car to constantly come to a halt. I bought the car 6 months ago from a 2nd hand garage and the problems started in December. The garage mechanics cannot find where the water is coming from and have tried to help but to no avail.5 mechanics and 6 different RAC callout mechanics confirmed water in ECU but non can find where nor how the water is getting in to the ECU or where it is coming from. I have broken down on numerous occasions and in dangerous situation and had to pay to be towed home on each occasion. I have read on dozens of sites like this that there could be several different causes - even getting a new loom costing £1500 did not work for some.
I have tried drying out the ECU couplings and blowing out them out dry, This worked for 1 day and the car chugged to a halt again and would not drive and found water again in the coupling wells (happens in dry weather conditions too). Today the car only lasted 2 hours after drying them out when they became full of water again and the car came to a halt once again. The water does not smell or have any colour so it can't be coolant or wiper wash. It is not the engine coolant sensor either.
Does anyone have any advise please as this is driving me insane. Do I have to spend lots of money trying to find the fault or just accept the great decrease of value to my car and sell at a loss?
Many thanks

I’ll never get another Peugeot nor a Citroen c3 for that matter.
Oh dear, another one wanting to tar almost an entire nation's car output with the same brush, after just one piece of misfortune. A few more of those with different marques and you may run short of alternatives. Switching to German cars may be no better.
As has been said, some models do have well-known faults, but it doesn't follow that everything from that company is riddled with them. Keep an open mind or you just might miss some good ones.

<< Sorry for bothering you all again. Another local one popped up, >>
Sarah, you (and we) have been at this now for 5 weeks, and you seem no nearer getting a car. We all realise you are out on a limb and have only £1500 to spend - but having said that, the bottom line is that you (and a useful friend) have to go shopping. Any car at this price will be of an age where its condition can only be assessed by you. All we might do is suggest models which may have a slightly better chance of being a good buy. There will be good and poor examples of all of them....
I would use your scantool to do some live data checks. Pay particular attention to the fuel trim figures. Do some Google research on Short Term and Long Term Fuel Trim.
