Looking for some help
I bought a 320tb few weeks ago with a 12 month mot
The car was working perfect but all of a sudden it has gone into limp mode!
The car looses power now and again ( can still hear the turbo kicking in)
It seems to take a long time to gain power and speed especially on a Hill
It has been plugged into a diagnostic machine but no faults were found any idea what this could be?
May I add that the car had no water in it and I didn’t realise till around 3 days ago it was bone dry Read more
What age and mileage and how much did it cost you? These are very complex and prone to problems as they age which makes them a very unadvisable purchase for someone on a tight budget. Any number of things could be wrong here from a leaking pipe to a failed head gasket or turbo. It needs to be properly diagnosed in the metal by a qualified mechanic, preferably a BMW specialist. As already said the MOT is no guarantee or statement as to the mechanical condition on the car, it’s only a safety check to make sure it’s road worthy. An engine could explode an hour after an Mot test.
I have an 08 Avensis which I have owned for a year put 20k on so far and has been o Good car, just flown through its MOT.
When I bought it I checked the MOT and all was good only brakes tyres lamps etc. ... Read more
Norway certainly do not salt their roads. Every motorist has to change to winter tyres before winter sets in. If you are caught without them on then you will get a big fine and your insurance will not be valid.( not studded tyres).
You only need studs for very bad conditions and you better not get caught using them on tarmac- a huge fine!...
Maybe I should have spotted this myself, but...
My nice new (used) Jazz needs four tyres, sooner rather than later. When I picked it up from a dealership that sounds a bit like Heavens Bagshaw, I briefly checked the tread (which was good on all four) but didn't look closely at the sidewalls (I need glasses but generally refuse to wear them unless reading or writing).... Thanks for the further comments and observations.
I'll seek an opinion from another tyre fitting establishment before deciding what to do....

I've got a 2006 Focus estate 2L 16v which has been great but it's at 245,000 miles and I think I need to replace it sometime soon. Still returning 42mpg but the transmission slop is getting worse and it's developing a taste for oil gradually.
I've had a good look round Autotrader and at discount new car websites. The cost of ownership for a 3 or 4 year old car and a new one is almost the same. The cost per month is within £10 - 20 between a 5 year old car and a new one.... Read more
Thanks. Not a lot in it then really. There's some very tidy 2013 TDCis around with low mileages which look like a good deal. Curiousity is getting the better of me so I think I'm going to go and look at a 1.6 Ecoboost.

For heaven's sake - I moved an identical thread from here to Technical, only to find you'd already duplicated it there. Now here you are again.

My son's Ghibli has been his most reliable car (it's in the LA area, and petrol). Far better than the BMWs etc he had before. I've seen more Ghiblis around the UK recently - so they're getting something right - it's a nice looking car.
