Not all older people are computer or text message savvy. It is an actual fact that they can be more susceptible to fraud and scams.
No one is suggesting that you are stupid!

I had to use the car club car today and the Leaf I had been using for the last couple of years has gone on its merry way. I thought it would be a new model Leaf to replace it, but when I booked the car it came up as a Prius plug in.

So a quick review based on my 90 minutes with it.... Read more

Hi everyone,

Is there a service to check current market value of the car on a PCP finance agreement and compare it to the PCP settlement figure? Thereby working out whether I'm in negative equity or positive equity?

Obviously for the majority of the PCP finance agreement it will be negative, but on my last deal (Audi S3 2010) I found that I was in positive equity almost a year prior to my agreement ending! However I discovered this too late and the amount of remaining equity had reduced significantly - I still upgraded though I would of had a larger deposit if I had traded in 10 months earlier...

Audi had told me that I was part of their "key for key" programme that did this for me, though they never got in touch! Then again I guess it's not in their interest.

I want to sign up for notifications or something that periodically checks the equity on my behalf? Does this exist? Am I the only one who thinks this would be useful?!

Thanks for reading,
Cheers,

Only way is to ring finance company and get settlement figure. Ensure they given you a tax rebate aswell. I had used pcp for the last 2 cars now taken the policy over 47 months and sold the car after 2yrs and been in positive equity. Seems to me if you buy Audi, merc, BMW cars which hold value and a re not doing galactic miles pcp works well

hi... ive read a few posts here about getting your keycode, but i cannot find my m or v number. ive tried pressing 1 and 6 on the radio but i get dsp 50600500 and not the serial number.

2 and 6 doesnt work either, nor does entering 6992 . Read more

Well, in that case the only other thing you can do to obtain the Radio Serial Number is to pull it out from the dashboard by a couple of inches in order to read the Serial Number from the label on the radio casing. No need to disconnect anything.

You'll need a pair of radio removal tools in order to be able to be able to pull the radio out. Easy to obtain and relatively cheap....

I recall in the late 80s, first job and earning £2.60 per hour (about £100 per week), but paying £400 insurance premiums.

So, about 1 month of my wages.

In my opinion the insurance industry is backing young drivers into a corner with extortionate premiums.Yes they are at higher risk of making a claim but there should be a way of making insurance affordable so that the temptation to risk driving without cover is lessened. My son had to make a recent claim and even though he was fully comprehensive, the insurer treated him very badly and tried every angle to avoid payout. Time for the government to take a close look at industry practices, especially as the con artists have spotted the opportunity to scam desperate motorists.

"The majority of drivers think they can get away with common motoring offences"

They don't think they will they know they will, outside of the lack of traffic police the bobby on the beat was also a deterrent to traffic offences in days long gone by and also to pull over faulty vehicles etc, just one small area that is a good example is the amount of motorcyclists, and I was a motorcyclist so no bias, who use secondary exhausts and get away with it, some are frankly ridiculous in the noise created but they are never pulled for it as they would have been before.
How many road checks do you see today for vehicle faults, almost none and that can only be a bad thing as drivers simply fail to replace worn tyres etc again knowing the chances of being stopped are near nil. Read more

I agree with the sentiment, we live in North Devon and it's like the Wild West down here. You can walk along roads in the village we live and see the bald tyres gleaming back at you and 'Car Tax', What's that?!
Punters down here buy 'sheds' as they call them, trade-ins and the like with little or no MOT and just chance their arm until the vehicle literally falls apart and then they abandon them. Wonderful eh?
