Received a used car from a reputable dealer last week and I think it may have a problem, when I accelerate at low revs (under 2500rpm) the car is jerky and hesitates almost as if it loses power for a second.
If I am very careful to go through the gears at high revs - say chnaging gear at 4000rpm the issue seldom happens - but in general day to day driving, pulling away from a roundabout in 3rd, it's always hesitating and makes for a jerky uncomfortable drive.
Cruising above 3000rpm is absolutely fine.
The issue can be replicated without fail by putting the car into a high gear at low revs.... Read more
But was it jumpy?
Hi,
I am looking at buying a 2007 Toyota Corolla verso. ... Read more
Judge the car - not the paperwork.
Does it drive nicely? Is it clean and have the appearance of a well looked after car which hasn't been abused? Does the current oil look hideously dirty or clean? Does it have four mismatched bald ditch finders on it or 4 3/4 worn Michelins?...
Does anyone know whether 5W-20 engine oil will be ok in a 10 year old Fiesta 1.4 with 60k on the clock? I know that Ford state that the 5W-20 rating is required for Ecoboost engines. Read more
Thanks for your responses. As you can read, our Fiesta was not serviced by Ford but by an independent garage, so you would have thought that they would have had 5W-30 oil on the premises? It's my son's car so will tell him to check the oil level regularly.
Is car allowance salary ? and if not do I have an equal pay claim when a colleague that does not use a car and therefore has no car allowance is on almost the same money as me ?

Back in the distant past my job involved some local travelling. We got 43 pence a mile at the time and I did about 3000 business miles a year. That equates to just over £100 a month which at the time paid my car loan (on a hideous XR3i and 2 very nice Golf GTi's). We also used to get 12 pence a mile for travelling too and from the office but this was taxed. That paid for the business and commuting fuel. Just left me with fuel for personal use, servicing and any other repairs. never had such cheap motoring. Sad when it ended.
I would have needed a very substantial salary increase to get the same income.
Oh great, one of the last roundabouts on my commute is now plastered with utterly pointless traffic lights. Even at rush hour it was generally easy to cross with little or no queues.
Then the lights arrived - and a week after their switching on - a half mile queue back to the previous roundabout. Seriously - who plans these things, as I'd like to whack them around the head with a sock full of marbles!... Read more
Is it as bad as the one near where I live? Drivers have taken to the 20mph back streets to try and avoid it. Can't see how that is safer.
So i bought a skoda octavia 2014 2L diesel elegance for 10.5k in sep 17 49k miles
Had accident and the car is written off now, insurance is paying me 8.5k so they have depreciated the car by 2k in 4 months?... Read more
So just got a call from insurers and they are saying that the best valuation we can get for car was about 9.5k but they have to deduct for some sratches on the car before accident which is 300 and 100 pounds for valuing the car and 500 excess will be deducted on 8.5k value. Do i have to pay the excess if i was not at fault? Also are these costs justified to be paid by me as I am making the claim off the guy who rear ended me.
If you are claiming from the third party, you should not have put in a claim to your insurer, simply reported the accident to them....

Re. the "Europlates" issue, I can't see Brexit making any difference for cars with pre-existing EU plates. If the owner objects to them carrying the EU flag, then they can cover them up with the readily available GB / England / Sco / Cymru stickers which fit the left hand side of the plate. I can't see many people rushing out to buy and fit new plates at 25 quid plus, even if they hate the EU and all it stands for. Incidentally, my previous car (Toyota Prius) in the UK had Europlates, and it picked up numerous minor dents / scratches and marks. My latest car (Vauxhall) didn't, and no such marks and damage have ocurred in over 2 years. What does this tell us!
As I now spend more time in Spain than the UK, I have recently re-registered my car to the Spanish system, and although I have to carry the EU plates as it is obligatory there, my insurance, road tax, MoT (ITV) and servicing is much cheaper (as is petrol). Whether my car will again start picking up scratches etc when I return to the UK remains to be seen.

Had a new battery on my 2008 118D, luckily it was a warranty job. Battery had to be coded to the car and then it took a further 12 or 14 hours before it was fully aware it was a battery on a BMW.
