From a standing start 1st gear doesn't receive much power about half of the time. Once going the power isn't bad but probably not what it should be. Other than obvious servicing or head gasket issues is there a common fault related to Mondeos of this nature? Read more

Not much to go wrong on these. It is basically a Mazda power plant.I would start with basic service items, plugs ,oils filters etc. Also check the auto trans fluid level. The car must be at least 12 years old ,so don't throw too much good money at it.

My commutes are often accompanied by the inevitable half wits jammed inches from the back of the car, only a matter of time till one of them fails to stop.

I have just fitted a new Yi fairly basic dashcam to the back window, handily my car has a rear power outlet so that bit was simple, i've fed the wire along inside the trim and inside the tailgate door trim up to the top NS corner which is swept by the rear wiper, loosely cable tying to the existing flexible bellows at the hinge point which houses other wires and the rear washer pipes, i could have delved further and threaded it inside the ducting but considerably more dismantling was in order, cable was ideal length for this.... Righto, just viewed the footage, and it's not bad at all, number plates clearly visible in daylight, whether the vehicle behind has headlights on or not up to about 25 yards, night time not so easy but if the emergency recording is triggered by shock, ie just after i shut the tailgate door, the following footage seems better clarity, hopefully the same will apply if someone shunts me up the back.

I'll set the date/time stamp and if i get a tailgater in the dark it will be interesting to see if i can make the number out, date stamp will make it easier for sorting out clips so i shall endeavor to keep it set right....

Purchased a used car over the phone a couple of weeks ago which was delivered with a problem (it occasionally jumps / stutters when accelerating).

I have a 3 month Gold RAC warrenty with it, and the garage are telling me to just go through that to get it fixed but I am:

a) concerned the fact the car was delivered with a fault
b) worried my warrenty may not cover the issue (electrics for example are not covered)
c) worried if my max claim of £100 is possibly a problem.

The issue I have is that if I wanted to "reject" the car under distance selling rights I have only 2 days to do that but I can't get my car looked at until after then. The only thing I've had done is rea dthe error codes which come up with nothing.

Any thoughts? Read more

Turns out is was just a bad spark plug, cracked all down the side.

The car is running much nicer now.

Glad I didn't take the advice to reject the car... :)

I just don't believe this d*****, car sales in January 2017 would have benefited from the looming tax changes in April 2017. Plus the reputation of diesel cars goes before them, they are unreliable and expensive to repair as well as emitting noxious fumes which adversely affect those humans who have breathing difficulties or suffer from heart defects. Surely the head of the SMMT and spokesperson for the AA realise the inherent problems surrounding diesel power units. Never believe industry mouthpieces! Read more

Diesels are not unreliable. That statement is pure nonsense. Never believe ranting eejits either!

Facts is, the government has screwed up the VED on new cars since April 2017. That discourages people to buy new. Second, the irresponsible demonisation of diesels has clearly hit sales (see OP's 'rant.'. The latest EU6 means new diesels are actually cleaner than many petrol cars....

Look at the overpriced cars here. Just a disgrace having paid that sort of money.
I mean, fuel leak? Seatbelt pretensioner should simply just work. German cars are a masterclass of image over quality. These list just go on to prove what a reliable bargain Hyundai are. I bet a Merc driver thinks he's the bees-knees. I think he's easily parted from his money. Read more

A simple 1- or 2-word clue would help greatly- e.g. are all the affected Ford engines “diesel” or “Ecoboost petrol”? Much quicker and easier to identify than trying to guess whether your VIN is between those quoted by the DVLA notice.

My Leon is the first car I've had with stop-start. I find that very often the engine only shuts off for a few seconds before it has to start up again. Is it really saving fuel? Read more

“Hmm - get someone to take you for a drive in one first.

I kind of hankered after a Caterham or a Lotus 7 recently. Never been in one before.

Then I got a bloke who was trying to sell his "classic" Lotus 7 - with the twin-cam engine, to give me ride in the thing.

They are crude, noisy, uncomfortable, and cramped, and that's just as a passenger.”

I’ve had a shot of a supercharged Arial Atom before on track and loved it. Neither are exactly comfortable and I wouldn’t want to be a passenger for long in any of these things but to drive they’re great fun.

Hi

I have a 2011 1.3l diesel Astra. I have noticed at the front there is a metal tube connected to turbo with gasket, which connects a large rubber hose. The metal tube is covered in oil and pools around rubber hose. I have noticed that there was oil pooled around rubber hose connection before but it seems to be worsening.... Read more
