Peoplelike SD of Southampton make me laugh. They have a vehicle for 2 years and when a fault develops consider they should get 'favourable terms' in having it purchased by a dealer. Er, you've had perfectly good use of the car for 2 years by your own admission. What makes you think this should be ignored and you given favourable buy back terms? Read more
Today, Like many other days, I park along a stretch of road, where other cars park, behind my place of work.
Last week, I Spoke to a Civil Enforcement Officer as I was coming to work and double checked with him where I can and cannot park and said where I was currently parked was alright even though I was parked on a raised part of the road, and didn't give me a ticket. ... Read more
Ps Sorry about typos I am very tired.
I read in the local paper so and so was awarded a fine and penalty points for speeding on the M3. As the speed limit is 70mph why do we buy cars that do 155mph? Read more
Politicians are many things but they are not necessarily idiots: they are just working from an agenda that they have not told you about. Lower speeds equal lower emissions: saves them doing something in another area.
won't happen in the UK - slower speeds, less fuel used, lower tax revenue from fuel taxes (of which there are plenty)

Really worth watching The Grand Tour review of the X3.
First time I have seen Clarkson worried about criticising any car.
Looked like he was accompanied by a team from Tesla on the test drive to field any questions.
We bought a three year old Volvo C30 seven years ago, which we are very happy and content with, and after having it serviced by our local garage over the years we decided that it was time the now ten year old car had a proper main Volvo agency birthday service. We were given every courtesy and attention and came away inpressed and assured that we had made the correct choice. This was added to by notifcation that we had also been given 12 months free road side assist cover from Volvo.
Some days later whilst driving along a warning symbol appeared on the dash display indicating a fault to the engine. I quickly pulled in switched off and set about checking for the obvious signs of a fault and could detect nothing. Re starting the engine and checking further everything appeared OK. Checking in the owners handbook the symbol indicated a fault with the emmissions system. I contacted the Volvo garage who informed me that they would need to have the car come in and they would carry out a diagnostic check at £105 plus VAT to discover what the problem was. I declined their offer. I next called upon my road side assist perk only to be told that this type of issue was outside of the remitt for their service. This set me into re examining the paperwork from the service. I was shocked to discover several errors which left me wondering as to the value of trusting them at all in the first place. The car was listed as 2.0 litre, its actually 1.8. The service mileage was vastly different to the recorded mileage. A box had been ticked that the automatic tyre pressure monitor had been reset, it doesnt have one. The hand brake was stated to have been adjusted, it now remains on after releasing and breaks free with a noticeable thud and jerk.... Read more
The hand brake had neen exceptionlally good over the seven years we have owned the car. However, in recent times it had become less and less effective on an incline and had to be pulled on harder. This to me hinted that an adjustment would be needed to restore the otherwise good performance....
Bringing your son's imminent employment into this is ridiculous, in my view, epsecially as its widely known that Civil Servants get far more non-pay perks (holiday days, sick days [which many use as extra holidays, especially in the NHS], non-contributory pensions [perhaps less so than there used to be], early pensionable age compared to the private sector [again, perhaps reducing now)]) - perhaps I should've said long-standing staff.
With respect you're just repeating the same stuff as before. What do you mean by widely known non pay perks? Yes 25 or 30 days paid leave is quite good and so is three months sick at full pay. But they don't help you raise a mortgage. Occuaptional Pensions at 60 were widespread amongst good employers right up until the end of the nineties when the demographic timebomb, lower investment yields and tax raids on pension funds from both political stripes cut them short. ...
If you were to choose a vehicle from the list below which one would you go for based on the price, handling of the vehicle, boot size, running cost and tax?
Honda CRV... Read more
If we’re talking new or nearly new and you cover a moderate mileage and don’t intend on towing something heavy I’d have the Mazda with the 2.0 Skyactiv petrol. Otherwise the CRV is the most robust option. It’s no joy to drive however while Mazda seem to have built an SUV that genuinely drives like a well sorted hatchback. If it has to be diesel I’d leave the Mazda in favour of the Honda.
The Insignia if it’s one of the comparatively rare 1.4 petrol turbos is a good big motorway mileage muncher but a Mondeo 1.6 Ecoboost would be more reliable and nicer to drive. The Fiat diesels in the Vauxhall I wouldn’t trust beyond the initial manufacturer or approved used warranty term.
The Octavia is a great car but I’ve heard too many people complaining about problems with Golf GTi/GTD’s which share the same running gear. Sadly VAG aren’t exactly basking in glory when it comes to reliability. My old gaffer had loads of woe with his Mk 7 GTi.
yeh there has been endless 'tax refund' mails , if you get suckered into this, then it's your own silly fault. they are SO obviously scammers, ... and you just delete them .. anyone offering money for nothing is a scam. Read more
Not all older people are computer or text message savvy. It is an actual fact that they can be more susceptible to fraud and scams.
No one is suggesting that you are stupid!
Fully agree, Time to drop the Drink-Drive limit to at least the same as europe, and to ZERO for new drivers as in much of Europe. Read more
Yet another knee jerk reaction. The standard of driving in the UK has deteriorated vastly at the reduction of Police on our roads. The Politicians answer lower the alcohol level, it costs them nothing to do that, but does cost money to employ more Police. But if it is lowered there are no Police to enforce the law, so what's the point. The majority of drink drive convictions happen when involved in an accident.
Any mention of what kind of auto gearbox will be available in light of the DSG problems? Read more

They lied and cheated. Their products seem to be the subject of more problems than any other manufacturer but people keep buying them. People, get your brains out of first gear.
