A car is a machine, any part of which can fail at any time. Some machines are designed and built better than others. Choose carefully.

Any machine needs the correct maintenance as recomended by the manufacturer, neglect it and it will inevitably fail. With correct maintenance it will have a longer trouble free life....

As the previous owners didn't feel the need to have a valid MOT, it's very unlikely that it has got a service history (apart from the one in 2018 by the selling garage).

Confused!

Help! I will be driving from Sunderland to Rothes - my husband usually does the driving but is unable to do so this year. Our normal route is A19, Ai, a90,A9 then A95. Feel okay about most of journey but it is the junctions slip roads etc around Edinburgh and getting to Queensferry Bridge and roads around Perth which make me a bit nervous. Have Tom Tom to help and my husband will still navigate. But any help gladly received! Read more

If you want a more relaxing southern end of the route, take the A696 off the A1 (past Newcastle airport), and follow this and then the A68 up to Edinburgh. It's quite a few miles shorter, and has very little traffic. From Sunderland you'll need to take a different route out to the A1 other than the A19, but as that's at the home end you'll know that but better than me.

The main thing to watch out for is when coming back south. The road signs shortly after you come off the Forth Bridge make no mention of how to get to England, and you're presented with the options of Edinburgh or Glasgow. Don't take the junction labelled Edinburgh, it goes straight into the city centre, which isn't a great place to drive if you don't know where you're going. You have to head towards Glasgow (even though this seems totally illogical), and then it joins the A720 city bypass a junction further down.

When I start my car up from cold a strong exhaust emmissions smell comes through the dash air ventsource. This disappears after few minutes. My car us now out of warranty. However just before my warranty expired my ford tech noticed that the turbo was leaking exhaust gases and adevised it would need replacing. But when I took the car in, ford advised the dealer to nip it up and not to replace the full turbo system. My car now has 70k clocked, I fear it is the same problem. In which case I will fight for it to fixed under warranty. Any thoughts would be just appreciated as I havn't agrees clue how these things work and it's booked in to the desert next week. Fore warned is for armed. Read more

I've just had an email reminder for my Civic's service and MOT quoting an amazing £99. Its for Hondas 6 years plus in age and includes oil and filter and the usual minor service checks.

Of course they may treat it as a hunting expedition to recommend other work but its still a bargain. Given that it includes MOT its even better value than HJ's Jazz £50 oil service in Thailand in this weekend's Agony Column.

There is nothing I can see on the main Honda site on 6 years+ service pricing so maybe this is just my local dealer. But if it meets any Backroomer has a middle-aged Honda due a minor service its worth enquiring with your local dealer to see if its available to you.

Eye for an Eye.
As the Parking Eye cameras are usually not obvious, it must be possible to be near enough to another vehicle for the cameras to miss your vehicle's number plate. In our local supermarket, the place is full of Crossrail contractors and their cans and lorries at the moment, easy to be hidden on the entrance or exit.
